Explosion by who.

I'm worried what the hell they are letting off!

covetingthepreciousthings · 26/02/2022 23:15

@Tigersonvaseline

There is a terryfying assault on the capital. Something is on fire giving off a strange glow?

What the f is it?

Where are you seeing this?
OnlyOpenMouthToChangeFeet · 26/02/2022 23:15

There are reports coming out that the explosion may be an oil depot.

If you read my previous posts on this thread @blingkerching you'll see the TV isn't what I have been focusing on. Although a touch of light relief has not been made illegal. Yet.

FatFucker · 26/02/2022 23:17

Gazprom website is down!

A huge fuel depot, they think
TheSillyMastiff · 26/02/2022 23:22

From what I've seen online but can't be verified they sound like artillery shells, heavy bombardment lots of them, quick succession.

A missiles has the "whoosh" sound after it. Imagine a javelin (a hand held missile launcher) being launched but multiply the sound by 100 for a missile because it's self propelled rather than the shells which really on the barrel and initial gunpowder blast to launch it.

The afterglow is sadly from infrastructure that has been hit and is now a blaze.

Now I can't verify what I have seen on twitter, if it's tonight/yesterday or a year ago I don't know.

Alisae · 26/02/2022 23:24

Where are people seeing this? Twitter? (Sorry, watching news but haven’t seen anything like that yet).

Tigersonvaseline · 26/02/2022 23:25

Yes I'm seeing now (Twitter) they think it's a fuel depot.

Elon musk has given Ukraine access to star links Confused which I think means they are secure from Putin taking down their internet

This should link it.

OnlyOpenMouthToChangeFeet · 26/02/2022 23:28

Ukraine's govt has asked people to volunteer for their 'IT Army', they have

"encouraged hackers to conduct cyberattacks on key Russian energy firms and financial firms".

I'm hoping this is why Gazprom is down.

It does, you can't hack star link. Ukraine maintaing it's internet and access to the rest of the world is crucial so they can continue to reach out, tell the truth and stop misinformation.

Anonymous has now started a mass attack on Russia, it's hacked in to it's state media and broadcast images of Ukraine, it's hacked state websites and is dumbing information on the internet. It's not long ago released a whole host of e-mails that show Belarus involvement in the invasion.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 26/02/2022 23:35

Anonymous have hacked Russian TV networks to show what's going on in Ukraine.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 26/02/2022 23:37

I bet putin's apoplectic 😮

Let's hope the shock finishes him off!

covetingthepreciousthings · 26/02/2022 23:39

What will be the repercussions of the Anonymous hacking?

TheSillyMastiff · 26/02/2022 23:44

@covetingthepreciousthings

What will be the repercussions of the Anonymous hacking?
Nothing, all Putin can say is "it's the west interference/misinformation" but not much more than that, he can't specifically point a finger at any one nation, and he can't take on all of the west.

So he will just have to sit and stew about it.

FatFucker · 26/02/2022 23:46

"Fedorov tweeted a link to a channel on the messaging app Telegram that encouraged hackers to conduct cyberattacks on key Russian energy firms and financial firms. The proposed target list includes natural gas giant Gazprom and big Russian banks Sberbank and VTB. "

Gazprom and Sberbank seem to be down, VTB hanging on in there!

Crikey!!

Might spur someone on to assisted him

Can't believe I'm saying that but the world needs him gone

CPL593H · 26/02/2022 23:48

I'm sure this has been said, but I've read (including from UK defence sources) that the attack on Kiev was conducted by Russian Special Forces/paratroopers, who were shocked to meet with the resistance they did. I know there are huge columns of regular troops advancing on Kyiv and I know it is too much to expect them not to fight, but I really think they will have less commitment.

This is not the Red Army that went into Germany in 1945 after years of repelling an invader from their homeland and terrible suffering. I do have hope that these soldiers, many young, will see the situation as it is.

anotherperson1 · 26/02/2022 23:52

@Phrenologistsfinger

"Financial director for Gazprom, Russia's state owned gas/energy company and largest company in Russia by revenue, found dead by suicide in St Petersburg.”
What does this mean?

I'm sorry, Kyiv.

The problem the advancing forces have is the paratroopers have failed to do their job/objective, thankfully due to Ukrainian resistance.

Paratroopers objective is to be dropped behind enemy lines and create an immediate forward opp base. They have failed this, without a strong forward opp base, advancing is difficult.

It requires more logistics and artillery than previously planned and that's now just to fortify a opp base never mind advance territory. If you haven't planned for this as the aggressor, you now have to change tactics and dramatically so, hence I think the heavy bombardment this evening.

OnlyOpenMouthToChangeFeet · 27/02/2022 00:01

CPL593H · 27/02/2022 00:10

@TheSillyMastiff Yes, you're right of course, so the bombardment. My FIL was a 3 Para officer who jumped at Suez and my husband (who was a child at the time but later absorbed much of the lore) said very similar.
