Motorina I don’t know it feels very tricky atm

Listening to various commentators some say ‘nip it in the bud’ or words to that effect. Others say no to stop world war.

It’s a bit of a blinder as a move but I still feel hopeful in a way.. I’m going to read that Twitter link below

ParsleySageRosemary · 26/02/2022 21:10

R4 was saying that Russian attack helicoptors are patrolling the borders for the very scenario in which we try to truck in weapons.

Russians are patrolling the western borders where Ukraine joins Poland and Romania? Is that what you / r4 meant?

That would cause issues with NATO sooner rather than later…

FatFredsFriedEgg · 26/02/2022 21:13

You seemed to be saying we could keep supply the Ukrainians for an on going resistance campaign.

Apologies' if thats not what you meant & i misunderstood.

We did supply the French, Dutch, Polish etc.

I'm really confused about the point you're trying to make?

You said: Despite being exceptionally brave and courageous people, i don't think anyone in the french resistance believe they would have defeated the Nazi's by themselves.

No, we kept them supplied and told them what to do, while we made our own plans.

Then you say: You seemed to be saying we could keep supply the Ukrainians for an on going resistance campaign.

I wasn't, I was initially talking about the delivery of the promised armaments over the next few days, while Ukraine isn't under full occupation. Wasn't that made clear by the phrase 'despite being under full occupation' when comparing the situation now with WW2 France?.

I'm lost.

Attack helicopters are vulnerable to the stinger missiles that are being provided.

I can imagine there is a lot of air activity on both sides of the borders between countries in NATO and the Russians who are over Ukraine.

It doesn't take much for a mistake to happen and for one side to 'accidentally' attack the other.

Same for in the sea.

We are in a very tense situation here.

cakeorwine · 26/02/2022 21:18

We can certainly keep the Ukrainians supplied with arms if Russia occupied the country.

Occupied countries do find a way of getting arms in, despite occupation. It takes a lot to fully control a country that does not want to be occupied.

Motorina · 26/02/2022 21:18

I think it's very tricky and very scary, with many bad outcomes and few good ones. Sadly.

As the DUP are now finding out in the North of Ireland.

ParsleySageRosemary · 26/02/2022 21:19

I’ve answered my own question, actually; there’re queues of refugees going into Moldova and the others. So Russians cannot have control over those borders. The other East European states are backing their neighbours and cousins in this.

raspberryjamchicken · 26/02/2022 21:27

Can't believe the posters earlier on this thread criticising Russians for not protesting more. Do they think protesting against the war in Moscow is like taking part in a march down Whitehall?? Russia is a dictatorship. There is no freedom to protest.

To give a balanced view, it's one thing letting private cars leave a country you're attacking and a completely different thing watching green trucks laden with pallets of missiles enter the country.

Let's hope they don't use the same routes.

Roundeartheratchriatmas · 26/02/2022 21:40

Unconfirmed posts online suggesting incoming very heavy air raid on Kyiv.

I hope it’s not true. But if previous posts indicating that failure to progress has upset Putin it might well be.

Roundeartheratchriatmas · 26/02/2022 21:42

Also posts saying that several Russian TV stations have been hacked to broadcast what is happening in Ukraine.

Tigersonvaseline · 26/02/2022 21:46

UK has supplied lots and lots of equipment And Not last minute either ( like Germany)

Alexandra don't you feel a little grubby trying to piggy back your clear anger of Brexit on this crisis?

Roundeartheratchriatmas · 26/02/2022 21:47

There is something especially horrible about watching something happen in real time. To me it increases the feeling of helplessness.

itsgettingweird · 26/02/2022 21:47

Just watching bbc news.

Have to say Boris spoke very clearly for once during his interview. But I just wish he'd quit with the constant rhetoric of the first and the most and the best.

Now is not the time for political bluster.

It's a time for a united front against Russia.

Hardly the way to reduce civilian casualties and ensure a peaceful occupation and a puppet regime...

Russia is going to become a pariah state. I hope that the West helps maintain that status no matter what the outcome.

Tigersonvaseline · 26/02/2022 21:49

Round, who knows what too believe but I read it was playing Ukraine song's.

I really hope it does show the many act of amazing courage by Ukrainian and... the protest's going on within Russia itself.

Gingerwarthog · 26/02/2022 21:50

Reports just reported in the Guardian on line say Kyiv's children's cancer hospital has been struck by artillery fire.

FatFredsFriedEgg · 26/02/2022 21:51

Let's hope they don't use the same routes.

They will though. Maybe you were being sardonic?

There have to be limited crossing points between countries which don't allow free movement and aren't in a customs union. It's not like the border between Ireland and Northern Ireland.

OnlyOpenMouthToChangeFeet · 26/02/2022 21:52

Russia attacked a hospital in Donetz on Thursday with cluster bombs, which is considered a war crime for not only bombing a hospital, but because cluster bombs are so indiscriminate and liable to cause civilian casualties.

Well he wouldn't be doing his bit if he wasn't claiming to be the first and the most and the best. The Bragging Clown.
Gingerwarthog · 26/02/2022 22:03

Reports say at least one child in Kyiv's children's cancer hospital has been killed.
I cannot imagine being that child's Mum - who probably made a decision not to leave the city as her kid needed maybe life saving treatment.

Cam77 · 26/02/2022 22:04

No doubt. But let's remember that the US and the UK deployed 13,000 of them in Iraq less than 20 years ago.Tyants like Putin need no encouragement of course.

Wrongkindofovercoat · 26/02/2022 22:07

@FatFredsFriedEgg not sardonic, just hoping that all the people in the traffic jams get to safety over whichever border they are trying to cross. If weapons are coming in across the same routes, albeit in a different direction, they would be seen as legitimate targets ? The weapons not the people, the people would just unfortunately be in the same proximity ?
