Anyone finding the tone of this really quite terrifying...

I’m not one to get myself in a tizz over sensationalised news but this is starting to feel very different!

Very doom and gloom

And not a thing we can do.

Reluctantadult · 24/02/2022 11:03

I hope he takes some action but worry it'll just be talk.

TellMeMoreHellebore · 24/02/2022 11:05

What action do you think he should take?

He's already placed sanctions on Russian banks here

Don't want him poking that old bear too much!

MissyB1 · 24/02/2022 11:06

He won’t do anything to help Ukraine, too much Russian money in the UK Angry

Horological · 24/02/2022 11:07

it is a catastrophe for the Ukrainian people and very worrying for the rest of Europe. I can't help thinking that for Johnson it's a giant opportunity to distract attention from his sleazy leadership and potentially a Churchillian moment (in his dreams).

MimosaPiqueNique · 24/02/2022 11:07

Actually he should address parliament first before a national news conference.

The sanctions announced on Monday were weak. There is a lot more he can do but are his hands tied because of the continuing and substantial Russian donations to the Tory Party.

Lottapianos · 24/02/2022 11:08

He can absolutely fuck right off. It's a bit late for him to be hand wringing about 'our continent', as if he gives a shit about anything other than himself. It's just an opportunity for him to do his Big Important Statesman act

Madmog · 24/02/2022 11:09

Any idea what time? I read 11am, but that's gone.

TellMeMoreHellebore · 24/02/2022 11:11

Unfortunately Boris is who we have got

Nobody else

TheVolturi · 24/02/2022 11:14

Bbc2 is currently just news. Not sure if it usually is at this time, they're covering the situation at the moment.

Millionairenow · 24/02/2022 11:14

Yes, very scared

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 24/02/2022 11:15

My first thought too.

Hard to work out whether he's shitting himself or coming in his pants, but either way I'd hate to be the one dealing with his laundry right now.

User5438965 · 24/02/2022 11:17

He is addressing the Commons at 5 according to BBC so I can't imagine it will be before then, maybe 6 or 7?

TheVolturi · 24/02/2022 11:17

How terrified must those innocent people in Ukraine be.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 24/02/2022 11:22

He thinks he's bleedin' Churchill 🙄

Ponyclubkick · 24/02/2022 11:22

Sky news are reporting Midday.

I just not sure what the best thing to do is, little to nothing what does that say to Putin, he can do whatever the fuck he wants. Act but at what cost and end.

OP posts:
User5438965 · 24/02/2022 11:26

Yes, ignore me above, it looks like noon, probably different to commons statement of sanctions

Classica · 24/02/2022 11:26

The Tory party has received a lot of money from Russian oligarchs. I suspect Johnson might be all hot air.

southeastdweller · 24/02/2022 11:26

Putin's threat was really chilling: www.ft.com/content/0783ea10-b493-4889-8da8-5a5ea75cb977

Bunnyfuller · 24/02/2022 11:27

God, doesn’t Boris love a sound bite opportunity.

We’ve passed the point where sanctions will work, they should’ve gone hard when they started bombing Georgia in 2007, or even annexing Crimea in 2014. Instead we allowed Putin and his gang to donate to the Tory party and push the Brexit agenda - weakened uk, weakened Europe…

Led by donkeys. Rich, over-privileged donkeys whose thirst for more wealth has contributed to this nightmare we now all face.

Bunnyfuller · 24/02/2022 11:28

If you have time, read this. Makes Russia’s position very clear.

TheVolturi · 24/02/2022 11:29

Exactly, what can we do? If we intervene then Russia will target us as well, but if we do nothing then do many innocent people are going to die and who knows what Putin will do next? Do Russian citizens admire Putin or are they equally as aghast as we are?

AlexaShutUp · 24/02/2022 11:30

It's a very worrying time, and all the more so because of our current leadership. I have no confidence in the current government's ability to make sound decisions in the interest of the nation.

Fireblanket · 24/02/2022 11:31

The Tory party is too compromised to do anything effective. And I agree that for Johnson it's a convenient dead cat to bluster over.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 24/02/2022 11:31

Putin wants to put the former Soviet Bloc back together. This is his ultimate aim.
