Anyone finding the tone of this really quite terrifying...

I’m not one to get myself in a tizz over sensationalised news but this is starting to feel very different!

@TheRealityCheque agreed

JassyRadlett · 24/02/2022 13:16

@Seriouslymole

Hating to put a financial spin on things but surely no-one in the entire world can afford a war now on the back of a bloody pandemic?

And good grief, Johnson at the helm. It's his dream scenario and everyone else's nightmare.

Putin has been building a war chest of currency reserves for nearly a decade, ready for this. Even cut off from world financial markets, he has strong financial reserves.
alltheapples · 24/02/2022 13:16

@CheshireSplat I too feel the same. There have been other Prime Ministers I have not killed. But with no other PM have I felt the constant questioning if what they are saying is a lie.

CornishGem1975 · 24/02/2022 13:21

Isn't there a train of thought that says war is good for the economy?

beguilingeyes · 24/02/2022 13:26

"But from the UKs perspective thank God we haven’t got Corbyn! He would probably be sending troops to back up Russia! "

Seriously?! When it's the Tories who have taken over 2 million of Russian money and it's Johnson who has put the son of a KGB agent in the House of Lords!!! I still can't believe he was allowed to do that.

The Russians have got the current Tory party in their pockets. Rees-Mogg has only this sold his shares in a Russian bank

It's a tricky question - but perhaps not?

Its nice to see the "but Jeremy Corbyns" out in force today.

Always reassuring that the Boris fanboys still haven't thought of a better more truthful argument.

@TheRealityCheque

To wish people would stop conflating the Ukrainian invasion with WW3.

It's shite and completely unacceptable and my thoughts are with thee innocent people affected but it is not a world war and isn't going to become one.

It could very easily become one. Putin has been open for years that he wants the Baltics and the Balkans back. Ukraine is not even the beginning. Georgia was given away years ago. Belarus has a puppet government and if they have not invaded already they will be. Transdnistra is right on the border between Ukraine and Moldova and is pro-Russian. Moldova is not Nato and will be next. After that we get Romania. That is a NATo member and then we are screwed. Do you think Putin will walk into Ukraine and say 'Oh, happy now!'. No way. This has the potential to be WW3 very very quickly and we are on a precipice of this happening.
BackwardsPrawn · 24/02/2022 13:28

Great typo Smile

I hope.

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 13:34

I was thinking that too, thank heavens we don't have Corbyn. His idea - along with 'stop the war' group was to go over and 'talk' to the guys in the tanks Hmm I damn sure that is going to work - not! How would that even work....I mean these people are trained to cold blooded killers are hardly going to care what the weirdo in the anorak thinks about their choices. Some people are just delusional. I am totally anti war and have been on marches but when you see a sheep in wolves clothing you don't assume its a fucking sheep ffs particularly if it is also trucking ballistic missiles!!

notsurehowtostop · 24/02/2022 13:37

Putin has now threatened nuclear war, right? Any country that interferes will provoke a never seen before response?

I worry he's mad enough to think, well if Russia is going down you're all going down with us.

I feel like it's the end of life as we know it. God I hope I'm being dramatic.

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 13:41

I don't think you are being dramatic.

That IS what he said, no one could come away thinking anything else, he was threatening the world to not intervene or else.

I am not scared or worried about nuclear war, but I would read from Putin's message is that HE is very worried there is going to be a severe reaction, perhaps a military one that he won't recover from...

yossell · 24/02/2022 13:41

Jesus -- the 'but corbyn' brigade can f right off. Johnson, like Trump, is up to his ears in Russian money. The Conservative party has been bought off. And they've been covering up for Russia since the Russians interfered in the last election.

And as for the 'but Biden' bunch -- Trump was putty in Putin's hands and has recently tweeted about Putin's 'genius' move.

Staffy1 · 24/02/2022 13:42

Yes, it is terrifying. I don’t think it’s just Boris trying to distract.

Classica · 24/02/2022 13:43

Trump would have licked the shit from Putin's arsehole if he'd been instructed to.

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 13:44

It looks like Starmer entirely agrees with the Prime Minister however, so hardly a distraction.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 24/02/2022 13:47

@Classica

Maybe THAT'S what's on the tape.
loveisanopensore · 24/02/2022 13:50

@BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation

He thinks he's bleedin' Churchill 🙄
Drunk at work and quite racist. He's nearly there.
Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 13:50

How ANYONE has the audacity to laugh and joke when children are dying right now is beyond me.... and they say it is not the fault of Russians....these threads would tell you otherwise.

DinnoWoman · 24/02/2022 13:51

Fgs de pfeffel has spent the past 15 years inviting the Russians to wash their mafia money in the UK property market in return for him and trump getting into power and now the cunt wants us to believe he's bloody Churchill?

Fuck off.

Blossomtoes · 24/02/2022 13:53
@Classica - another top tip, when criticising something - always consider the alternative because if you succeed at getting rid of the thing you dislike the alternative is what you are left with. In this situation I’m glad Boris is at the helm.
I am considering the alternative. Starmer’s a grown up whose sole purpose isn’t portraying himself as a Poundland Churchill. I’d rather have just about anyone else at the helm right now.

Xenia · 24/02/2022 13:53

Like many in the UK I vote Tory (Labour are has beens and have not won since 2005 so anyone Labour on this thread - don't assume everyone agrees with you).
However this issue is across party lines and an issue as to what we do.

The Russians are appalling, even using polonium on UK soil. Left wing labour people might like them due to the communist past but many of us do not. They have no respect for the rule of law out there.

Grantanow · 24/02/2022 13:54

The whole Ukraine episode needs cool heads and I hope somewhere in the Cabinet and the Civil Service they exist but Johnson must be thinking he's off the Partygate hook. Putin is more dangerous than Hitler and this is not 1939 so the West needs to handle this carefully. Ukrainean democracy is not worth even one nuclear missile on London. Sanctions may help but effective ones will damage the UK and other economies and we will all pay the price in a higher cost of living, energy bills and supply failures.

ClaudineClare · 24/02/2022 13:54
