Anyone finding the tone of this really quite terrifying...

I’m not one to get myself in a tizz over sensationalised news but this is starting to feel very different!

I hope he takes some action but worry it'll just be talk.

I hope he's sensible and doesn't grasp the opportunity to try and emulate his hero. Boris as a war leader? My hair would turn white overnight.

Classica · 24/02/2022 12:16

Ukraine is opening up its armories to any of its civilians who want to fight against the Russian invasion. I just cannot begin to imagine what it feels like to be Ukranian right now.

TellMeMoreHellebore · 24/02/2022 12:17

@CornishGem1975

We have to do something, it's as simple as that. We can't just sit by and watch Putin do this.
like what?
PerditaPerdita · 24/02/2022 12:18

I hope he does nothing because they've started talking about forced construction.

Words fail me.

Inanity. No way.

Mummytotwonow · 24/02/2022 12:18

Has BJ made the public address yet??

Tillow4ever · 24/02/2022 12:19

@Mummytotwonow

Has BJ made the public address yet??
Yes. It was at midday.
WordleDordle · 24/02/2022 12:19

The sanctions imposed amount to stopping three russians from opening a cash ISA.

Pandai · 24/02/2022 12:20

It would be weird if the prime minister didn't say anything about it to be honest, and yes, it is a catastrophe for Europe, especially of course Ukraine. I'm sure NATO will appreciate the expert input many people seem to have on MN this morning about what should be done.

PraiseBee · 24/02/2022 12:22

Those poor souls in Ukraine.
If Russia takes over Ukraine then they will be able to set up naval bases. They'll become a very strong nation indeed, militarily speaking.
I'm so sad today Sad

Ripepear · 24/02/2022 12:22

A retired army general says britains children and grandchildren will be called up to fight if he enters a nato country. I know that’s not a very official source, but it’s not a great thought at all.

LemonViolet · 24/02/2022 12:22

Watching BBC2 now. The thing that has just got me is scenes of the roads leaving Kyiv absolutely jammed with people trying to leave. That is hundreds of thousands of people, families, fleeing their homes. Where are they going to go?

jgw1 · 24/02/2022 12:22

The nice thing about every time Boris is that every time he opens his mouth he reminds me that I am a much better person than he is and more competent at my job.

SouperNoodle · 24/02/2022 12:22

Apparently he will address at 5pm (I read on BBC news)

This whole situation is utterly terrifying and may be the start of a full scale war and unfortunately we have a buffoon leading us.
As citizens, we are all so helpless.

My heart absolutely breaks for Ukraine.

User48751490 · 24/02/2022 12:23

Hopefully this will all blow over and we can all just get back to normal. Just getting over a pandemic, no one needs this.

CornishGem1975 · 24/02/2022 12:23

I don't know @TellMeMoreHellebore Thankfully, it's not my decision.

Mummytotwonow · 24/02/2022 12:24

Where was BJ public address made please? I had sky news on record but I can’t find it.

OMG12 · 24/02/2022 12:24

This is terrible -I feel so dreadfully terrified for everyone in the Ukraine. I suspect within a week the Ukraine will be annexed.
But from the UKs perspective thank God we haven’t got Corbyn! He would probably be sending troops to back up Russia!

Keir stammer will probably do fuck all to keep his nose clean, Angela “sacrificial lamb” Raynor will pop up saying it’s the fault of Posh people, David Lammie will appear saying he hasn’t got a fucking clue what to do but the Tories are doing it wrong!

SouperNoodle · 24/02/2022 12:24

Ignore my post. Don't know where I read 5pm. That must be for something else.

DH just said this. National service is probably something to be seriously considered by Johnson now....

Yeah, we're fucked.

Charlize43 · 24/02/2022 12:26

He's probably secretly overjoyed as it takes the heat off Party-gate.

I can't imagine he really gives a sh it about the Ukrainians.

At least the Ukraines' have a comedian leading them, much better than having a clown.
Tigersonvaseline · 24/02/2022 12:26

Cake at the time the alternative was Corybn who thinks NATO are being aggressive.
I know whom I'm glad to have at the helmHmm
