My 11 year old has just said he is a child in the worst time ever, climate change, Covid and now this which he seems to think is a World war. I do feel for them, this does worry and impact all children. Worst of all of course Ukrainian children. Some teens are protesting outside Downing Street today. It is important to talk to all children of a certain age about this.
You might point out to your child that he was surrounded by a fantastic vaccination program for Covid, and possibly the children who have died globally at any point in the last century (say) from malaria etc might disagree with his viewpoint. Or those dead in war zones that we only vaguely aware of and certainly not battle by battle, such is our lack of detailed news from places like DRC in 1997.
I don’t say this as a competition - I think it’s important for children to understand that these are terrible times, but that there have always been terrible times. There’s hope in that, that every terrible event so far - many people have come through it, and generations have been born ignorant to it.
I don’t think this scratches the surface of “Worst Time Ever”, personally.
