A few tweets coming in re Chernobyl being taken over now. Hopefully not going to be confirmed…

Chocolattay · 24/02/2022 17:20

Stay calm regarding Chernobyl. The consequences still likely ‘just’ be for Ukrainian infrastructure rather than nuclear fallout hitting Europe.

leopooh · 24/02/2022 17:22

@Cocomarine 😆

workisnotawolf · 24/02/2022 17:23

My 11 year old has just said he is a child in the worst time ever, climate change, Covid and now this which he seems to think is a World war. I do feel for them, this does worry and impact all children. Worst of all of course Ukrainian children. Some teens are protesting outside Downing Street today. It is important to talk to all children of a certain age about this.

Cocomarine · 24/02/2022 17:23

Putin has access to his own nuclear material. Chernobyl is simply part of a corridor from Belarus to Kyiv. It’s not good news if either side hit it during fighting, but I think a previous poster who mentioned fear had it spot on.

Tigersonvaseline · 24/02/2022 17:25

@PAFMO

Some MN feel the site is so critical Putin himself has ordered stooges to infiltrate us

TiddyTidTwo · 24/02/2022 17:25

I've seen posts about others scaremongering and I'd agree normally but we cannot bury our heads in the sand. No one can predict what Putin will do. Let's not get ahead of ourselves but also don't disparage those in fear. It is not impossible the worst case scenario.

Try to keep positive and hope diplomacy works, if not military action (minimal) works.

We are where we are. Us mere mortals cannot change anything except support each other

Tigersonvaseline · 24/02/2022 17:26

Work how sadSad

Can you counter balance this with all the positives of being born at this time.

Suzi888 · 24/02/2022 17:30

Is this WW3 territory then? Where is it likely to end? I don’t usually watch the news etc and I’m not into politics either. Scary stuff.
Those poor people, Sad

You might point out to your child that he was surrounded by a fantastic vaccination program for Covid, and possibly the children who have died globally at any point in the last century (say) from malaria etc might disagree with his viewpoint. Or those dead in war zones that we only vaguely aware of and certainly not battle by battle, such is our lack of detailed news from places like DRC in 1997.

I don’t say this as a competition - I think it’s important for children to understand that these are terrible times, but that there have always been terrible times. There’s hope in that, that every terrible event so far - many people have come through it, and generations have been born ignorant to it.
I don’t think this scratches the surface of “Worst Time Ever”, personally.

Roundeartheratchriatmas · 24/02/2022 17:32

I just can’t get over how little anyone has done. The sanctions are minimal so far.

There are civilians dying and Putin is about to take part of Europe. We all know Ukraine will fall without outside assistance.

And then what ? We sit and wait for him to take somewhere else ?

TiddyTidTwo · 24/02/2022 17:34

I agree Round.

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 17:35

I agree too round

Tigersonvaseline · 24/02/2022 17:36

Coco I agree , he's got so much to be extremely grateful for!!

My goodness!!!

RhubarbTea · 24/02/2022 17:36

I agree, Round.

MarshaBradyo · 24/02/2022 17:37

What are people wanting to be done?

Round what would you like to see happen

This is my fear.

At what point do we step in and say enough is enough.

Is Putin hoping that we will step in

Tigersonvaseline · 24/02/2022 17:37

I wouldn't want any russian soldiers killed in this pointless war however it's a shame under cover of darkens it's a.shame best planes , stealth bombers can't sneak in and just massively attacks them. Collapse this thing quickly

Tigersonvaseline · 24/02/2022 17:38

It's such a big move by Putin I can't help but think something bigger is at play here.

anotherperson1 · 24/02/2022 17:39

How big is Russia's army compared to ours? How many UK army's would we need to take them out?

anotherperson1 · 24/02/2022 17:40

Like for him this is just the beginning
Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 17:40

I am afraid many Russians will lose their lives because they are there solely to kill innocent people, they are not there for a teddy bears picnic. They have been told to bomb and kill the people of Ukraine.

Yes I just wish the NATO alliance would simply swoop in an end this thing overnight. I really do. And teach every tin pot dictator what happens when you invade other countries.

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 17:41

another collectively NATO far outweighs Russia in every military capacity.

Alexandra2001 · 24/02/2022 17:43

Yes if you inc the USA not quite so clear cut if its european NATO vs Russia.

@anotherperson1

We are much much smaller. Just like we were during Iraq but the British armed forces are tactically one of the best in the world. And it's not feet on the ground in modern times, it's tactics, experience etc and British armed forces in every capacity have been there, done it and are trained for it.
