And all those who rejected Nuclear power stations have made Russia rich as the West consumed gas at inflated prices to build a huge war chest and currency/ gold reserves for Russia.
The U.S, U.K and NATO are scared to assist for fear of reprisals so this is going to be messy.
The poor Ukrainian people, so sad that a mad dictator is trying hard to be the next Stalin at their expense.

MarshaBradyo · 24/02/2022 07:04

So sad today made me cry hearing it’s started.

Heartbreaking

drayday · 24/02/2022 07:11

My Ukrainian friend called her family early this morning and they can see explosions from their windows. They are terrified.

It's nothing, i know. But I will be donating money to a Ukrainian based Animal Rescue.

GrendelsGrandma · 24/02/2022 07:13

The Tories are up to their armpits in Russian money, they won't do anything.

Honestly, it's a farce. Putin on one side and Liz Truss on the other. Like sending a Labrador in to deal with a polar bear.

MarshaBradyo · 24/02/2022 07:14

Ukraine has a bigger army than U.K. let alone Russia

Better off to think about what NATO will do

Even then a man who doesn’t care about international law and is on a war mission is very dangerous no matter what

MimosaPiqueNique · 24/02/2022 07:16

Thinking of the lovely Ukrainian women I worked with. Just normal women juggling work, kids, house, project deadlines. Just like us.

It’s so horribly upsetting.

tara66 · 24/02/2022 07:20

Some news on last night saying that Putin is actually not sane - more scary, but what other explanation?

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 07:24

I am truly lost for words. The impact of a total invasion will be devastating. I am so so angry and furious with Putin. Putin has lost his mind, he has truly lost his mind, and the babies and children of Ukraine will pay the price.

It is a despicable action, unforgivable. The world will be shocked.

Russia now surely need to remove him, before he does actually start WW3.

LightfoldEngines · 24/02/2022 07:25

Russia doesn’t stand a chance of removing Putin, the system is rigged so that they can’t.

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 07:27

Someone from the inside could assassinate him. Surely there must be many looking on in abject horror even within his circle. One man can not be allowed to cause this much destruction and death.

No this has to stop.

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 24/02/2022 07:28

If the West does nothing, China will invade Taiwan. Will make us wish for the good old days of the Cold War….

Libertybear80 · 24/02/2022 07:29

Never mind Brexit will protect us! We just won't let the Ruskies cross our borders!

DrBlackbird · 24/02/2022 07:29

Johnson lies as easily and as well as he breathes. So I don’t believe a single word of him or this government in terms of any declaration about sanctions against Russian banks etc. Russian money has been supporting/influencing the Tory party for years. They are not about to turn that money tap off for the Ukrainian people.

tinytemper66 · 24/02/2022 07:29

@Blinkingbatshit

I wonder how many MPs have investments that are tied up with Russia somehow?🤔…..
Mogg got rid of his just hours before sanctions came into force this week.
Damnloginpopup · 24/02/2022 07:29

He’s been this way for a while. I’m not sure it’s insanity as such but he’s certainly a megalomaniac and he’s been displaying that for ages. His manoeuvres to ensure his lifelong power, posing half naked on a horse and killing bears publishing essays on the desire to reunite Russian states. He’s employing old school shows of power in trying to cultivate the image of an all-powerful leader. This is a fight with a leader who isn’t in the 21st century in his head. He sees himself as a tsar - that’s not insane but it is something we have largely moved on from in the west.
nonono1 · 24/02/2022 07:31

Realistically there’s very little the UK can do on its own anyway. We’re small fry.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 24/02/2022 07:31

Until last week was convinced he wouldn't do and I still cannot see why he needed to.

This is terrifying.

I used to work with a lovely Ukrainian guy. One of the nicest men I’ve met. He was a dentist in Ukraine but came to the uk working fairly menial jobs as it paid more than being a dentist in Ukraine and sent money home.

This news is just devastating.

Cornettoninja · 24/02/2022 07:32

@Keepyourheadscrewedon anyone close enough to assassinate him will be benefitting from his rule. There won’t be anyone who could take action queuing up to remove him.

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 07:33

The UK is not small fry, is has a powerful army and navy with nuclear weapons, of which I am glad we now have. The EU/US/NATO combined would defeat the Russians over night if needed.

purdypuma · 24/02/2022 07:33

Frightening times. Putin couldn't give a stuff about what UK, USA etc think as he's got his own agenda & he's determined to forge forward regardless to satisfy his ego. In addition quite scary that Russia are thought to be in cahoots with China & its thought they may now attempt to take Taiwan.
Very worrying times for the people of Ukraine, thoughts are with them.

ifonly4 · 24/02/2022 07:34

My DD has a friend in Ukraine and a Russian friend. Her Russian friend is safe as she's another country, due to go home soon. Her family are saying reconsider and stay where you are, and she's worried about their safety. It's going to affect so many innocent people on both sides.

FairWindClearSailing · 24/02/2022 07:35

So many people will die for grandiose ideas of a "russian empire". Putin has picked the perfect timing for this...after two years of enduring a pandemic. The west are not in the best position to deal with this. Putin has prepared for sanctions so they will not affect him immediately. I can't see him withdrawing for anything. This is scary and something we've already seen before.

Alexandra2001 · 24/02/2022 07:35

@Blinkingbatshit

How many of us have investments(via pensions) tied up in Russia? BP owns a huge stake in one of the Russian energy giants and whilst directly we don't get Russian gas, we of course get gas that otherwise would go to europe,

More worryingly is how much the conservative govt is tied in with Russia, after all they are funded by them and Boris backed the Putin policy of splitting up the EU & has cut UK military spending by huge amounts over the last 12 years.

Russia needs to barred from all sporting cultural and economic activities now.
