Russia has begun it's invasion of Ukraine. Who knows where this will end.

You can invade a country, take it over, but there will be a very high price to pay for it.

People who are occupied find a way to resist. They don't just keel over. The Russian occupiers will pay a price.

Ciaram55 · 24/02/2022 11:14

I've decided I'm going to step back from the news. It's all too overwhelming. I'll keep updated by coming on here. That'll be enough for now, I can't take any more.

MarshaBradyo · 24/02/2022 11:14

@Bunnyfuller

Sanctions will not stop this.

Read this - it’s translated, very long but it makes it quite clear this is only the start.

What a time to be alive

Interesting read

He feels threatened by West, NATO is mentioned a lot

You can read the same about the RN. Ditto the RAF. Tories have been slashing and burning anything publicly funded since they got in in 2010.

Still, we could have conscription! So all you healthy patriots can get out there and do your bit! I’m 55 in August, did 17 years in the RAF, so won’t be joining you 😊.

Ps SA80s tend to jam a lot 🙈 not good in a firefight.

GnomeyGnome · 24/02/2022 11:18

Just watching sky news and they showed soldiers burning lots of paper at the defence ministry building in Kyiv, what would be the reason for that, does anyone know?

Bunnyfuller · 24/02/2022 11:20

@cakeorwine

Please Google what they did in the Caucuses (clue they still hold the territory that they fought for), Georgia and Crimea.

They actually DO go in and nothing happens. They pick off small, poor nations, and overwhelm them with sheer war machinery in all forms.

You need to read about how they’ve worked previously! What they’re doing is far from new, and all the West do is ‘sanctions’ and ‘strongly condemn’. And the UK in particular is on its knees (partly by virtue of a Putin supported Brexit).

100% ...except Ukraine is not unified.

There are separate regions wanting to join Russia and it's not that clear the majority wants war with people they consider their own

Really? That is quite obvious.

Classified documents. Anything they dont want another country getting their hands on. State secrets.

Bunnyfuller · 24/02/2022 11:21

@GnomeyGnome

Possibly burning records of Russian transgressions?

Lookforwardtosummer · 24/02/2022 11:22

Absolutely horrific

Itsalmostanaccessory · 24/02/2022 11:23

Putin has spent the last several years destabilising those regions with infiltrates. He set it up so he could then use them because now some of them are saying they want to be Russian.

JudgeJ · 24/02/2022 11:23

@Nancydrawn

It's fucking devastating.

Time for British sanctions to be significantly harsher.

Obviously only wicked Britain should take some action!!! Maybe if other countries were to get their communal finger out the British sanctions would be more successful. As it is there will be many countries firmly impaled on the fence to see how it pans out and then take advantage whatever the outsome, as they have done many times before.
MarshaBradyo · 24/02/2022 11:23

It’s difficult because you see calls for - we should have done more in the West

But the actions by the West so far are part of the provocation

Longcovid21 · 24/02/2022 11:25

It's like lebensraum all over again. Very worrying.

JuergenSchwarzwald · 24/02/2022 11:25

Or maybe consider that it’s 77 years on and sweeping statement don’t all apply now

well you can say that from the comfort of your UK (I assume) home

If you were a Ukrainian woman you might not feel so great. Rape is nearly always used as a weapon of war.

Rosehugger · 24/02/2022 11:25

There are really no easy answers with this.

FacebookPhotos · 24/02/2022 11:26

Maybe if other countries were to get their communal finger out the British sanctions would be more successful.

EU sanctions were much more significant. What the British government did earlier in the week can barely be described as "sanctions".

Kassle · 24/02/2022 11:27

Maybe Putin is dying and wants to take everyone out with him.

GnomeyGnome · 24/02/2022 11:28

@Itsalmostanaccessory Sorry, did not word that very well. I assumed it was sensitive documents, what I meant was does this mean they are expecting to be overpowered by the Russians, is it a panic driven act, do they think that defeat is inevitable.

IcyWinterWonderland · 24/02/2022 11:29

oh no :(

JuergenSchwarzwald · 24/02/2022 11:29

@workisnotawolf

My question was if Moldova could be next.
Certainly Transnistria. I was just reading an interesting Twitter thread about the football team that beat Real Madrid in the Champion's League last September - it sounds like the entire city is set up to launder money for the KGB.
WhoreOfBabyliss · 24/02/2022 11:29

Maybe someone that loves their family will pop him on the inside.

I imagine Putin as someone that has looked in the mirror, realised that they are aging and not in a good way and has decided to take his bad mood about this out on everyone within his power and as far as he is able.

I read somewhere that he doesn't even have internet but that cannot be true surely?

ImFree2doasiwant · 24/02/2022 11:30

I've just heard that my friends hometown is being bombed. Her parents, siblings, friends. I can't imagine how she feels.

Itsalmostanaccessory · 24/02/2022 11:31

@GnomeyGnome

Not necessarily but it is procedure. You dont leave any documents for an invading nation, just incase it comes to that.

mammajustkilledagnat · 24/02/2022 11:31

@GnomeyGnome I also saw that clip and assume that it means they expect the Russians to come into Kiev.
