What did we see last night..?

We had been away for a few nights and travelled back quite late. Towards the end of our journey, this was about 2am, we were driving along an A road in a rural area when something crossed the road in front of us in full headlights for about 3 seconds. It was about the height of a person, maybe 6 feet or over, but had short powerful legs and hips which seemed to move in a circular fluid fashion. It was not a deer because it stood on two legs. This was in the midlands and the area is traditional rolling fields and woodland. In this particular spot there are no houses or buildings, nearest is over a mile away. We drove back today as its only 7 miles from home to look at the road layout and whatever it was moved into a wide bowl shaped field dropping down to a stream. Any ideas?

@Laiste

Ooooh, y'know, maybe the HS2 excavations all round here have disturbed something more than just the local villagers .....

I watched the programme you suggested...I didn't know Hecate was pronounced like that.

I have a feeling what's on YouTube is edited. There's no age warning and only a slight reference to bad things happening to dogs. So probably the whole programme you saw had that information.

Whatever walks in those areas probably wonders if there will ever be a peaceful night!

Pp mention HS2. They started finding stuff at the start but I think this is the latest

I’ve seen a big cat in Wales, many of us saw it on multiple occasions. Eventually one of the local farmers shot it while it was worrying the sheep.

They are around.

I saw a puma as a kid in County Durham. My younger brother described it as a bear as it was up on its hind legs stretched half up a tree in the woods we were playing in. 6 of us kids saw it & ran for our lives. Thankfully it disappeared into the underground. Saw wallabies regularly, plus beavers on a local tip. I also remember a small local zoo & it's many escapees

Decades later in a relatively nearby area, my parents saw 2 puma like big cats outside their new building bungalow. At first it was just my mum, who had health problems & poor eyesight & was often sat up in the early hours. She became hysterical after seeing these "pumas" sat with their very large Bengal cat & they were 5/6 times the size, at least as big as an Alsatian according to her description. Dad took to sitting up to 3 am & witnessed these big cats a few days later. He described them as puma like. Dad was trained & worked as a military observer, he didn't make mistakes in what he saw.

My looking into it for them as they weren't on the internet at the time, turned up loads of local siting, a local group dedicated to sightings & that where DPs new bungalows were, used to be part of a mine/quarry complex that they were believed to hide in. DPs were so freaked out. They moved.

They definitely are around us

Rockin interesting. There's so many reported sightings though, unless you live in a city. Did they move far?

Funny you should say that, I watched it for the first time today in ages, it's been cut right back, it's only 10 minutes long where the original was at least 20 minutes....weird.

EmmaH2022 · 22/02/2022 22:48

John oh it's in two sections on YT, the first is about 15 mins, the second is ten minutes?

A twenty minute show on such a subject seems odd, but as I said, with no age warning, maybe they thought some editing was needed.

Yes could be...it's been heavily edited which is a shame

I’m lying here in bed this evening. Not going out. I figured that because Google Earth is much clearer and detailed and we can pick out individual cows and horses, maybe I could spot The Beast.

I think I can see it’s lair, just three fields south of the lay-by. In one field a long bent shape lying down. The lair of Beast 425 (named after the road).

There is an old abandoned railway tunnel somewhere down there according to the map.

(Lighthearted of course).

@EmmaH2022

Yes from the NE to North West & in the middle of a town, so no more big cat visitors.

Their sightings were just outside South Sheilds, looking that up, made for some interesting reading at the time

TatianaBis · 22/02/2022 23:26

Is that horns or a mane at the back of his head?

JohnStonesMissus · 22/02/2022 23:31

I think it's meant to be hair?

Is it doing River Dance?
WonderfulYou · 22/02/2022 23:40

The pic makes it look scarier!

I have a couple of family/friends who swear they’ve seen a big cat.

I thought I saw one once but it was out of the corner of my eye so didn’t think much of it until 5mins later a police officer pulled up and said there had been a sighting in the area.

WonderfulYou · 22/02/2022 23:40

Thought I’d post this here.
I can only see a dog.

I saw the man first but after a bit I see the dog.

I saw a huge black cat near Durham, it was absolutely huge and I was about 30 m from it- in a parked car on a country road, near the woods outside of Kelloe. I was gobsmacked by it.

Have to say this thread reminds me of the MN post years ago from the couple on a caravan site near Weymouth. They went to take their dog out for a wee late one night and had gone in the field next to the caravan site when they had a feeling of being watched and realised there was something in the shadows at the far edge of the field stalking them. They ran back to the caravan and the thing raised up on two legs as it chased them.

Same here, I thought man at first, took me ages to see the dog though..

EnoughOf · 22/02/2022 23:48

@WonderfulYou I see a man running

JohnStonesMissus · 22/02/2022 23:53

This thread has inspired me to do more rooting, I was reading about a werewolf type creature who made it's way on to the RAF base at Alconbury in Cambridgeshire, it came face to face with an engineer working on an aircraft late at night in the hangar, they stared at each other for a short while and then the creature ran off on it's hind legs..

Holy. Shit.

Personally l find it scary that despite modern technology and most people having phones with camera etc that we don't TRULY know what's out there. Stuff we don't understand. Mind boggling!

Also, I really should stop reading this thread late at night.

Wow! I hope that one is still on here!

John going from the start of the documentary, I thought they would talk about the local vicar as well. I must try to find out more.

OP that is really interesting. I think you will have seen something unusual. I don't think a deer would put an abandoned wig on! Grin

There is something very human like in your picture.

JohnStonesMissus · 22/02/2022 23:58

EmmaH2022 Yes I know, I've just been back for another look and they've butchered the video more than I thought, it was a bit pointless really...sorry about that!
