What did we see last night..?

We had been away for a few nights and travelled back quite late. Towards the end of our journey, this was about 2am, we were driving along an A road in a rural area when something crossed the road in front of us in full headlights for about 3 seconds. It was about the height of a person, maybe 6 feet or over, but had short powerful legs and hips which seemed to move in a circular fluid fashion. It was not a deer because it stood on two legs. This was in the midlands and the area is traditional rolling fields and woodland. In this particular spot there are no houses or buildings, nearest is over a mile away. We drove back today as its only 7 miles from home to look at the road layout and whatever it was moved into a wide bowl shaped field dropping down to a stream. Any ideas?

@JohnStonesMissus

EmmaH2022 Yes I know, I've just been back for another look and they've butchered the video more than I thought, it was a bit pointless really...sorry about that!
Not at all, you have alerted me to many interesting things!
WonderfulYou · 23/02/2022 00:11

Also, I really should stop reading this thread late at night.

Me too!! 😭😭

OldTinHat · 23/02/2022 00:17

@Jonestonesmissus just jumping on to say I have spent many a night in Clapham Woods, Chanctonbury and Cissbury. I used to live not too far away and a group of us found the stories fascinating so went to look for evidence. Lots of witchcraft evidence in the woods and lots of weird things happened in all places. I was filmed for a couple of documentaries about them as well as the local news.

Binstead Woods near the ruin is very active at night.

And the wallabies are in Slindon Woods, I've seen them in there before.

Great work though OP, keep us all updated!

My grandads friend was a farmer near Stanley in CoDurham & he saw that one several times & believed he lost live stock to it too. It was known locally as black shuck. What my DPs & I saw was definitely more sandy coloured & puma like though. Apparently they have a 70 mile radius hunting ground too.

I do think that the old Stanley Zoo might be the source of some of it though. My friends dad was involved in running it & very different times meant that lots of the animals were treat like more pets, even the big cats in the house etc my DM would have had a fit if she knew half of what I hit up to at friends house & the fencing meant there was often escapee's

Oh wow! I go walking in Slindon woods and up to Nore Folly fairly frequently, I've never seen a Wallaby (yet) lots of deer in the bluebell woods though, beautiful place isn't it? I'll keep an eye out for them next time I go. Binsted woods also has the Madonna pond in which a coach and horse vanished into one night, legend has it that it's bottomless...

JohnStonesMissus · 23/02/2022 00:46

Ah that's good EmmaH2022

EmmaH2022 · 23/02/2022 00:52

OldTinHat what sort of activity is around those woods at night?

Re big cats etc, the stories I heard were around changes in legislation about keeping them. Though I can imagine that even without legal changes, some people will take on an exotic pet and then find it all too much and release them in forests etc.

AuntTwacky · 23/02/2022 00:55

T rex

Furries · 23/02/2022 01:34

@cannockcandy

Can't wait to see an update in a few days with pics of the tracks or the actual creature. One thing that hasn't, that I've seen, been suggested, is not just doggers but furries? Don't Google it if you're in work lol.
I would like to reassure that my username has nothing to do with what may come up from googling this!
Furries · 23/02/2022 01:36

Although @cannockcandy could have a valid point - maybe the other car in the lay-by was waiting to pick up a friend!

Magicshoppingtrolley · 23/02/2022 06:31

Nowhere near you OP but we have white deer near us. One of them looks like it’s wearing a wig - it must be some grasses or undergrowth it got stuck on its head. If that was on its hind legs it would look as you’ve described

Laiste · 23/02/2022 08:25

Oh my drawing was pretty close to yours OP :) I'm pleased.

Just out of interest for anyone who lives in the area, going back briefly to the ghostly coach and horses thing near Fawsley:

I heard they rattled past near to the ruin of the manor house which is quite randomly in the middle of nowhere now. When you see that area from the road the ruin is a long way away in flatish grazing land with a few big trees dotted around and a woods nearby. I could never understand why on earth a coach and horses would be trundling through a massive area of grazing land. HOWEVER now i've looked on google maps you can quite clearly see that some of the oldest trees are in what is still quite a distinctive double row and that must have lined a carriage drive to the manor. That's where the coach and horses must be still thundering along then!

Anyway - as you all were :)

LadyLyndon · 23/02/2022 08:37

Werewolves at RAF Alconbury? That’s near me

BluTangClan · 23/02/2022 08:37

This is a Jötunn from Scandinavia.

What did we see last night..?
GallopingHighRoad · 23/02/2022 09:01

Your post was number 666.
The mark of the devil. That picture has just burned an image into my phone screen.

Re big cats - wasn't there a BBC documentary a few years ago about people keeping huge cats (even a tiger?) all over UK and Ireland ignoring legislation and in built up areas - so next door to 88 year old Ethel in Acacia Avenue... I'm sure a few of those escaped.

It's either that or escaped from a zoo or a stag/ram etc on it's hind legs.

I love woo and would love to say it was something else but never stopped for long enough in these places and would run like the clappers if there was something spooky.

The one I saw was near Kelloe which is near Trimdon not Stanley

LuluBlakey1 · 23/02/2022 09:15

@GallopingHighRoad

Ooh - just spotted I have the paper clip thingy now. Here you go.

Not as good as @Laiste picture.

I think that is a deer on its hind legs- they do that occasionally.
Gonnagetgoing · 23/02/2022 09:16

@LadyLyndon

@LadyLyndon - there are no werewolves! At most it's some idiot who's bred wolves (wasn't there something to do with that and wild boar recently to 'wild' areas, natural predators?) and they've escaped or there's a hybrid breed of dog roaming around.

If you were in a country like France (bears) or Scandinavia (wolves) or Spain (lynxes) I'd give more credence to the werewolf possibility.

ThelmaDinkley · 23/02/2022 09:40

Interesting thread. Alastair Crowley who famously practised black magic lived near the Sussex Downs.

Moonlightdust · 23/02/2022 10:09

So invested in this thread! Grin

I was having a look online and I found this re ‘Bigfoot’ sightings in the UK. Dates back to the 80s but what’s interesting is that the witness saw this creature following bad storms just like OP had.

“ In June 1986, an unsettled month filled with electrical storms, unusual hail storms and fog-filled nights, a witness saw a large, long-haired creature with a light grey shaggy coat walking on four legs. On a return journey, the same witness saw the beast rise up on its hind legs like a human, albeit a very hairy human around eight feet tall. And since this time, sightings of mysterious creatures have been - if not frequent, then definitely steady. It's been described as wolf-like, bear-like and "not of this world", and - despite friendly warnings from those in the know - we decided to wander into the woods to see if we could see any signs of a resident sasqaatch.”

Moonlightdust · 23/02/2022 10:14

@GallopingHighRoad The same article goes on to describe the seen creature “Often described as creature with a long snout and dark shaggy fur, some report a beast on four legs, others a creature that rears up on two legs and is at least 7ft tall.”

Shock That can’t be a coincidence! Here’s the link to read through. The sightings were in Norfolk so not the area you were in but it sounds eerily similar! www.edp24.co.uk/news/weird-norfolk-beast-a1075-bigfoot-sighitngs-1487840

Some people will have used these animals for breeding too.

Yes, apparently some service man gave chase but it was super fast, it jumped the barbed wire perimeter fence, and headed off in to the woods north of the base...quite a few sightings apparently.
Gonnagetgoing · 23/02/2022 11:05

@EmmaH2022 - the most recent articles I found on it were recently - e.g. last year etc but this was definitely at least 5 years ago. Enough time for these idiots to indeed breed from these animals.

I really really hope the legislation has been improved since then.
