@GorgeousLadyofWrestling

What weather app does everyone use?

The iPhone one is always wrong. BBC weather is always half wrong and extremely pessimistic I.e will report torrential rain all day when it’s either just spitting or not even raining. AccuWeather seems pretty accurate but the app is not as intuitive to use.

BBC don’t seem to update as regularly any more - probably lack of funding.

I use the Met Office app, which is good because I get text alerts when there are weather warnings put in place for my area.

Wind picking up significantly here in the Cotswold bit of Glos now,.

WingBingo · 18/02/2022 09:07

Power is out, I’m near Exeter.

London/Surrey borders - wind is picking up slightly, but only just. OH has just secured the garden and bins and had gone out to get milk as we have run out.

I tend to use the met office weather report which is pretty good.

lifeissweet · 18/02/2022 09:13

West Midlands, still not much wind, but it has gone ominously dark all of a sudden

RayonSunrise · 18/02/2022 09:13

Re: weather apps - the BBC one is wrong more often these days because they stopped using the Met Office a few years ago in favour of a cheaper commercial weather provider. Think it really shows!

Longcovid21 · 18/02/2022 09:14

South Wales. Pretty squally. Cat doesn't understand why I won't let her out.

DontWantTheRivalry · 18/02/2022 09:16

Leicestershire in the East Midlands here…

No rain (for the first time in 3 days) and a gentle wind.

I’m not sure how much of an ‘at risk’ area East Midlands is though.

TheMadGardener · 18/02/2022 09:17

I'm on the edge of Dartmoor and it's really howling here now. Making that weird screaming noise. Can see lots of stuff thrashing around outside. There's a copse of trees up on the hill which are really bending. Sky was blue but rain has just started hitting the windows.

the80sweregreat · 18/02/2022 09:23

Essex. It's just a bit windy and a little bit of rain. Seems to be overkill on the reporting so far unless we will just be lucky and it will die out by the time it gets to us and not as bad as they think.
Buses are running.
Feel for the presenters on tv sent out in it in worse hit areas though.

fussychica · 18/02/2022 09:26

West Wilts. Just getting going now despite bright sunshine though there is black cloud coming.

Tonsellectomjy · 18/02/2022 09:31

Now very windy in Bristol.

Joyfulflowers · 18/02/2022 09:39

@RayonSunrise I hadn't realised that about BBC weather which explains why it never seems that accurate any longer.

What weather apps are worth using. I've used accuweather in the past but didn't rate it much then, maybe it's improved now.

Getting a bit breezier now - Beds/Cambs border

Oblomov22 · 18/02/2022 09:40

Surrey, 9.40am, a tiny bit of wind, tiny bit of rain.

Oblomov22 · 18/02/2022 09:51

Any reports of it being bad anywhere yet?
Apart from Bingo losing her electricity in Exeter, has anyone heard of it being bad?

I know they said 10-3pm, so there's still 5 hours left, but it doesn't yet 'appear' to be anywhere near as bad as they predicted.

Lopril · 18/02/2022 09:58

I'm in Cheshire. The weather so far this morning is going just how Met Office app said it would. Peak winds expected here around 2pm. It's a bit breezy just now, will start to get worse from 11am ish.

ButtockUp · 18/02/2022 10:00

Getting quite gusty here in mid Kent .

goodgrape · 18/02/2022 10:05

Central London. DD's nursery is open, so I took her in at 9am. It was windy and a bit of rain, but not gusty. Lots of litter being blown around, but nothing heavy. Red alert is for 10am-3pm, hoping the worst of it is over when I have to pick her up at 4.30pm.

SnowdropCrocus · 18/02/2022 10:06

I use the Google weather app. I like the layout a lot and it seems fairly accurate

WingBingo · 18/02/2022 10:14

@Oblomov22 power back here! Western power estimated it would be 3 so relieved (for now)

Oblomov22 · 18/02/2022 10:17

Good Bingo!

MrsSkylerWhite · 18/02/2022 10:17

Averagely windy day here so far, NW coast.

Nidan2Sandan · 18/02/2022 10:20

Milton keynes here, it's just starting to get dark and more windy.

Chakraleaf · 18/02/2022 10:40

Not too bad in suffolk

MillyMollyMandyMaybe · 18/02/2022 10:46

Wind now fairly terrifying in Glos, and South Glos according to someone I’ve just spoken to there. Lights constantly dipping there too.
