East Midlands - rain has stopped but wind seems to be picking up.

ElleGB · 18/02/2022 08:10

Is London now on red alert too?!

Joyfulflowers · 18/02/2022 08:11

Woke up to a slight breeze which is now getting a bit stronger. We're in a red warning area so no doubt will get worse. The wind app gives a stronger wind than bbc.

I’m hearing now that it’s coming in more slowly than expected, so perhaps a couple of hours behind the timings we got yesterday. It’s apparently fierce in Cornwall and on Welsh coasts. Don’t get complacent yet! (She says, doing exactly that for a bit!)

Crunchymum · 18/02/2022 08:24

@ElleGB

Is London now on red alert too?!
Yes.

Greater London has been put on the red list from 10am (I'm a zone 1 borough and fall under that warning)

NorthernChinchilla · 18/02/2022 08:26

Mid Kent here, wind picking up... scary we've been upgraded to red.

Weirdly the '87 storm was on DH's birthday and today it's a DC's birthday!

LaDoIceVita · 18/02/2022 08:29

Milton Keynes. Wind has been rising gradually since 5.30 - Windy app shows it being at it's worst here from 10. I'm waiting for 9.00 when I will call upon my neighbour and politely request that she removes the sodding wind chimes from her balcony for the next few hours Angry

Milomonster · 18/02/2022 08:31

Sounds windy in C London but not stormy.

Carbiesdreamhouse · 18/02/2022 08:32

East Kent here. No wind or rain. Feels a bit eerie though.

edwinbear · 18/02/2022 08:32

SE London, it's raining, not especially windy so far, but will see what the rest of the day brings.

YouMuckyDuck · 18/02/2022 08:33

Kent, right on the coast, it's picked up in the last hour. I just moved the bins round the side, everything is charging as we had a couple of sudden power cuts a while ago and I'm just being cautious
Hardly any cars on the road, feels a bit like lock down again which I hate

Phos · 18/02/2022 08:33

I’m in West Yorkshire and live 410m above sea level. There’s a bit of breeze. It’s sunny.

TiddleTaddleTat · 18/02/2022 08:35

South Yorkshire. Woke to heavy rain in the night but sunny and clear - ish now. Wind is picking up but that is common where I am anyway. Have plans today which I am a bit nervous about. Will have to keep an eye on it.

SpikeDearheart · 18/02/2022 08:38

Blue skies and sunshine here in Bristol right now!

Spudlet · 18/02/2022 08:38

Norfolk here, it’s a bit rainy and blustery but not too bad at this point. We’re supposed to be going swimming this morning so I might call the pool in a bit to make sure they’re opening. We’re not in the red warning area though.

Our power went down yesterday while they fixed some damage from Dudley, so DS and I went prepper and dug out the camping stove, candles, lanterns and the big camping torch, and we split lots of firewood up (I split, DS shouted encouragement from the sidelines Grin). Our garden wall blew down in Dudley so hopefully there’s not much left to down with Eunice… well, apart from the roof…! Not much we can do about that though so just hoping for the best!

Tonsellectomjy · 18/02/2022 08:39

In Bristol it's windy but nothing to write home about yet. Yet!

Munchies123 · 18/02/2022 08:43

South Wales coast. Bit gusty but beautiful blue skies and sunshine. Council has closed schools but we had an inset day anyway

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 18/02/2022 08:43

South east London borough near Kent. Barely anything to write home about - bit of wind and rain but if it wasn’t for the warnings, I wouldn’t even have noticed. Sun has actually just come out and the trees are still 🤷🏻‍♀️

Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/02/2022 08:45

Walking to work in Derbyshire, just dropped DS at school. Rain has stopped and it's sunny. Lots of cars about and buses running. Exh drives trains locally and there's a reduced timetable today. But seems an ordinary day by all accounts! I think it just hasn't hit us yet as weather app is saying 70mph winds by midday.

alloalloallo · 18/02/2022 08:48

It’s red here now too.

Super calm when I went out at 6 to do my horses. Am at work now and the wind has really picked up in the last hour or so and it’s now pissing down.

All school have closed except my daughter’s college. She has her last mock this morning but she’s not going in. We’re predicted the worst of the wind at 12 ish - smack bang when she’d be trying to get home

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 18/02/2022 08:48

What weather app does everyone use?

The iPhone one is always wrong. BBC weather is always half wrong and extremely pessimistic I.e will report torrential rain all day when it’s either just spitting or not even raining. AccuWeather seems pretty accurate but the app is not as intuitive to use.

Pebble21uk · 18/02/2022 08:50

South Devon, on an exposed hill! Pretty windy now - trees aren't happy. Neither is the cat - he's gone to hide under a bed!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/02/2022 08:50

Now it's changed to say maximum of 49mph winds rather than 70 so I think it's been a bit over exaggerated! I'm going shopping after work and taking DS to McDonalds.

TheHateIsNotGood · 18/02/2022 08:53

North Devon coast and the wind is literally howling.

Pebble21uk · 18/02/2022 09:01

South Devon - large piece of felting from next door's shed roof has just landed in our garden! Cat still under the bed!
