Daily Haiku

Hello!

Anyone else fancy a thread where we write and share a haiku daily?

I used to write a lot of haikus. I find they're a good mindfulness exercise 🙂

I've just started writing them again about my baby son but will try to branch out into other topics.

Here is one from last night. Distracting the boy with a toy boat while putting him in pajamas (he's a wriggler). Title in bold.

Tug Boat
A toy boat sailing
The blue ocean of your sheets
Night night tiny boy

I miss his breathing
Cold sheets stinging on my skin
Through long fitful nights

A haiku buddy! 🙂

Thanks...in fact not at all...was in bed and hubby sleeping so using imagination...I'll play haiku ping pong with you until someone else joins...why is it helpful for mindfulness?

I think they're a good mindfulness exercise because haikus are about capturing/conveying a specific moment. It's actually quite hard to do (in my experience)! So I'll be thinking, how would I describe that sky, the water, or whatever it is. So focusing on the world around me?

I used to tweet them... Seems like there is some debate about whether you need to stick to the 5,7,5 format. I tend to as I like the challenge of it.

Am rubbish at poetry but can I be the first to quote John Cooper Clarke?

To convey one's mood
In seventeen syllables
Is very diffic

The sun is shining
The end of the month is near
Hopefulness returns

Heating is useless
I should go and get some socks
I can't be arsed though

Haiku:
The smile doesn't reach
The eyes, I wonder what lies
Are hiding beneath

I wrote that 11 years ago (according to my FB memories). I must have been prophesising Boris.

My mouth is quite dry
I should get myself a drink
I am very tired

I have jobs to do
Am I procrastinating?
Maybe a little

If I rest here now,
I will feel worse later on.
Time for a nice walk.

Oh I went away for a few hours and came back to haikus. This is brilliant.

Just came back on, with a nice drink and very toast toes now having forgotten all about these 😂 still very tired out today. Will do my best to add a daily offering! Hopefully some more upbeat and energised

@ChocolateButtonsOfShame - I can't really remember. It must have been someone I'd seen on TV or the news being interviewed.
