Hello!

Anyone else fancy a thread where we write and share a haiku daily?

I used to write a lot of haikus. I find they're a good mindfulness exercise 🙂

I've just started writing them again about my baby son but will try to branch out into other topics.

Here is one from last night. Distracting the boy with a toy boat while putting him in pajamas (he's a wriggler). Title in bold.

Tug Boat
A toy boat sailing
The blue ocean of your sheets
Night night tiny boy

The robin appears
“Why are you here on my land?”
Appeased with fat balls

NancyDrawed · 02/02/2022 13:55

Out in the garden
The first signs of Spring are now
Pushing through the soil

MsNorth · 02/02/2022 14:34

Living in a flat
Has some advantages but
drilling upstairs, grrr

Loving the spring images

iklboo · 02/02/2022 16:11

Why are both our cats
So fussy about their food?
It all smells the same

Dad, I so miss you
An empty space in my heart
Never to be filled

Peachandpearl · 02/02/2022 19:19

Popcorn between teeth
Will not come loose with my tongue
Movie night hazard

We missed you today
Oh shit, not another trip
To the post office

ChocolateButtonsOfShame · 02/02/2022 19:20

@iklboo sorry about your Dad. Hard losing a parent Flowers

@MsNorth agreed regarding spring theme 🙂

A change from 5, 7, 5. But hey if Kerouac wasn't bothered...

The wind roars high
In the washed sky, sheets
Billow on the line

Where I once lived
Union flag, snagged
Fluttering in the breeze

@PandorasBex

There's nothing like the perfect joy Of finding a brassiere that fits No more wires digging in! I am complete.
So true!
Rogue1001MNer · 02/02/2022 20:24

@FawnDrench - love it!

Rogue1001MNer · 02/02/2022 20:28

Lovely friends sending
Ridiculous messages
All smiling broadly

NotInMyFrontGardenYouDont · 02/02/2022 22:44

I am so enjoying reading these every day Star

Sunlit, windless patch,
Three minutes with weak coffee,
Reviving me time

Rogue1001MNer · 02/02/2022 22:54

Mine was shit today
It was truthful but rubbish
Roll on tomorrow

(Couldn't get "uncontrollable laughter" to fit)

FawnDrench · 03/02/2022 09:59

H-A-I-K-U
Will start my Wordle today
Bet I get all greys!

Peachandpearl · 03/02/2022 10:20

A quiet life is
Not to be undervalued
Peace is worth a lot

Hope and daffodils
Both stick their neck out in faith
Better times are near

Cold coffee again
Thank you God for microwaves!
Morning gratitude

JamieFraserskneewarmer · 03/02/2022 10:59

Expensive mistake!
I clipped our front wall with car
A large bill awaits...

ChocolateButtonsOfShame · 03/02/2022 11:47

Here's a haiku from American poet Philip Appleman:

Once more as I wait
for you, night and icy wind
melt into cold rain

I also enjoyed this one:

Spring means plum blossoms
and spotless new kimonos
for holiday whores

@JamieFraserskneewarmer ouch! Poor car/wall

Really like these @Peachandpearl - your haikus work together as a longer poem too.

@FawnDrench any joy with wordle?

Lying on the sofa
Listening to ‘Bat Out Of Hell’
I’m fifteen again.

MsNorth · 03/02/2022 14:32

Post Covid routine:
Wordle, Year of wonder and
Now daily haiku

iklboo · 03/02/2022 16:08

Wordle is old hat
Try Lewdle, it's much ruder
Lots of naughty words.

NancyDrawed · 03/02/2022 16:13

Blow wind, blow
I channel Mrs Mopple
Washing line and all

MsNorth · 03/02/2022 16:22

@iklboo thank you for that: I just learned a new word!

ChocolateButtonsOfShame · 03/02/2022 16:41

Three in a row @Peachandpearl style

Rain from a blue sky
A small boy licks buttons off
His gingerbread man

Won't you hold my hand?
Old women in the cafe
Turn to watch us pass

He kicks the screwed up
Paper bag, dragging behind
Rain from a blue sky

Honourofgrayskull · 03/02/2022 18:09

Am I a weirdo
To be excited that my
Spring bulbs are sprouting?

NotInMyFrontGardenYouDont · 03/02/2022 19:00

Bloody keto plan!
Protein, salad, eggs, no carbs:
To be fat or not? Hmm

LittleSnakes · 03/02/2022 19:09

Rat in the garden
Tiny paws holding dropped seeds
A pest? Not to me.
