North west thread

YouHaveMail · 17/01/2022 23:22

Noting there is a thread for the east side, I thought a north west thread was needed.

--Also I am very bored at the moment waiting for dc to fall asleep, and this felt like the perfect way to spend the time.

Any other NW mumsnetters here? Let's talk schools, food, leisure....and so on Grin

@Saucery
There seems to have been a succession of random new weather presenters, getting worried that he’s ill or had a better offer
Even his Facebook is quiet, unusually for him
Hope he’s just having some downtime

OwlNoises101 · 22/01/2022 17:42

I'm a North Westener by birth. Although not living there now 😢 Is it OK if I join please?
It's a bacon bap where I'm from.
Owain has gone over to the Cymraeg side - has his own chat show on S4C. I'm not sure if it has started yet or coming soon.

@TheOnlyMrsW

Beautiful in my bit this morning but v v chilly, rewarded by catching the end of the sunrise in Manchester Smile
I've moved abroad and your pic has made me miss Salford/Manchester!

Those narrow passages are called weinds in my town. We have barms here too.

PaperMonster · 22/01/2022 17:51

@YouHaveMail and @TheOnlyMrsW see, the steam train references are puzzling me. I’m thinking Embsay, but that’s the other side of Skipton. We occasionally get steam trains coming through the village but not on a short track?

Tillymintpolo · 22/01/2022 17:55

Ginnel

iklboo · 22/01/2022 17:57

Ah @miltonj - a fellow Salfordian, eh?

I flip between entry & ginnel - probably use entry more though.

Where are weinds? Is it pronounced weends?

Saucery · 22/01/2022 17:57

@insancerre me too. Annabel Tiffin has been exiled to ‘Political Editor’ or somesuch, too. Wish they’d sent Roger out to stand in the streets reporting on stuff instead.
We cheer when Clare Fallon pops up on Ch4 News. She made it out of the backwater and all the miserable stories they used to give her. Andy Gill gets those now.

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 22/01/2022 17:58

It's a ginnel

NoWordForFluffy · 22/01/2022 20:26

Ginnel for Southport natives. Jitty to me!

thismeansnothing · 22/01/2022 20:41

@saucery I read he's got a stint with his own chat show on s4c. Sure he'll be back after that

thismeansnothing · 22/01/2022 20:43

@midnightstar76 hello fellow south Ribble-er!!!!

Freshprincess · 22/01/2022 21:24

Any of the NWers watch Stay Close on Netflix? They use loads of local locations, but they’re all over the place.

We were very distracted by them going to be wrong way to Blackpool Grin

Tillymintpolo · 22/01/2022 21:29

Yep, they managed to walk through Woods from formby to rivington !

TheTwelfthTime · 22/01/2022 22:39

Can I join? Another South Ribble-er.
I love barm cakes but struggle to find good 'authentic' ones these days.
Love butter pies too.
It's a ginnel.

YouHaveMail · 22/01/2022 23:32

@TheOnlyMrsW @PaperMonster I think I'm in a different direction as the steam trains don't run through the town I'm in....maybe we should move on to, how far is your closest Booths supermarket? 😁

Also, hello to all the other NWers joining us 👋

OP posts:
Imissmoominmama · 22/01/2022 23:34

My closest Booths is a two minute walk from my house.

ErrolTheDragon · 22/01/2022 23:44

I've not seen Stay Close - we've not got Netflix at the moment - but have just finished watching The Bay.

MouseyMoose · 22/01/2022 23:50

Yep the Stay close locations stressed me out Grin

NoWordForFluffy · 23/01/2022 00:05

Burscough or Hesketh Bank Booths for me. Burscough is nearer as I'm that end of Southport. It's about 7 miles. Apparently there used to be one in town, but that was before I moved here.

Widowin · 23/01/2022 01:30

I'm from sin tellins (st. Helens) am a very lonely youngish widow of 1year am 48 and experiencing menopause just! And don't know what the hell is going on lol need advice and friends?!!!!

thismeansnothing · 23/01/2022 03:36

Nearest booths was a 15min walk from my house but we moved towns (still in South Ribble) that one is still my local but it's a ten min car drive instead. Got to say my nearest booths although big I find it a bit grotty. It's not one of the nicer ones

Midnightstar76 · 23/01/2022 08:19

@TheTwelfthTime oooh love a butter pie have not had one in years

insancerre · 23/01/2022 08:20

Booths- I’ve got a choice of 2 - half a mile in one direction and 2 and 1/2 miles in the other

Midnightstar76 · 23/01/2022 08:25

@Widowin Flowers I am with you on the menopause roundabout but 45 and very definitely in peri. If you have Instagram there is a lady on there I follow called menopausaulmayhemmothers She is hilarious and let’s you see the lighter side of it all Smile
