North west thread

YouHaveMail · 17/01/2022 23:22

Noting there is a thread for the east side, I thought a north west thread was needed.

--Also I am very bored at the moment waiting for dc to fall asleep, and this felt like the perfect way to spend the time.

Any other NW mumsnetters here? Let's talk schools, food, leisure....and so on Grin

I’m not from here though. It’d be a roll or bap from where I was brought up!

The weather has been beautiful here for the past few days. So crisp and cold. Same this morning when a CID police officer turned up looking for the previous owner of our house Shock

YouHaveMail · 18/01/2022 21:39

@ChiefWiggumsBoy DH and his family have always said baps, he's originally from here (where I moved to and am now seemingly stuck 😂)

I'd always used the word buns 🤷‍♀️

Can I swap all these barms for a butter pie and parched peas?

No, but you can have babby's yed, pea wet instead.

I'm nipping to the chippy later anyone want me to pick them up some chips and gravy?

Freshprincess · 19/01/2022 09:35

I’ve never heard of parched peas. Where’s that from?

It’s all Pea wet and scallops round here.

Dogegg33 · 19/01/2022 09:39

Live in Cheshire and would like to join!

iklboo · 19/01/2022 10:23

@x2boys - please. Lots of vinegar, a buttered barm & a can of Vimto please.

MaybeHeIsMyCat · 19/01/2022 12:11

Battered sausage, chips, scraps and Irish curry sauce please

PunishmentSnart · 19/01/2022 13:18

@CopperLily

Hello fellow Liverpool Covid sufferer Grin

I’m free Saturday and can’t wait!

We have no nice chippy that delivers round here so you’ve all made me fancy one. First stop out of isolation is Southport for fish & chips Grin

iklboo · 19/01/2022 13:47

@PunishmentSnart - wait till Shocal is up & running in Liverpool (there's an app) and see which takeaways & shops sign up. If a chippy near you does sign up - delivery!!

I'm not part of or connected to Shocal other than a Manc user so don't get any benefit from mentioning it, I promise!

@freshprincess I'm Preston way and there's a tram on the flag market that sells them. Awesome with a bucket of vinegar on them. Also get them on bonfire night
EishetChayil · 21/01/2022 19:08

Evening, northwesterners!

I'm in Liverpool. Been a bit nippy over the past few days.

I can tell you're not from Liverpool - don't you mean the bizzies turned up? 😅
insancerre · 21/01/2022 19:23

Hello

Fylde coast
Anyone know where Owain is?
Not seen him for ages

Zoflorabore · 21/01/2022 19:34

Hello all, how have I not seen this thread yet?

I live on the borders of Knowsley and Liverpool but officially K. Whenever I’ve mentioned MN to people I know I usually get a puzzled look. Only my southern SIL who lives up here is on MN and neither of us know the other’s usernames.

It’s a barm for me too. A few days ago it was my birthday and I fancied some stodge and got a gravy chip barm from the best chippy I know which is Jumbo’s.

Zoflorabore · 21/01/2022 19:38

Ps if we’re talking schools, does anyone have a year 6 child awaiting results on March 1st?

For those who are in and around Liverpool, we have applied to a school that is renowned for being hard to get into that has a purple blazer. I don’t want dd to go to an all girls school like I did and have applied for only 2 schools. The second one is in my borough.

ErrolTheDragon · 21/01/2022 19:45

I think my bit of the NW is barm country, but we used to belong to a sailing club where the burgers came in teacakes. (No raisins... a barm by any other name Grin)

PunishmentSnart · 21/01/2022 19:56

@iklboo there are chippys that deliver - just no good ones.

Thank god we have nice bars/restaurants to walk to!

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 21/01/2022 20:01

It's a muffin not a barm here in Bury

FromDespairToHere · 21/01/2022 20:04

Hello from just outside Warrington 👋

It's a barm here and I bloody love a butter pie!

PaperMonster · 21/01/2022 20:54

I live in a bit of the NW where they don’t say barm cakes - but I come from a part of the NW where they do. You can’t be too far from me @YouHaveMail.

MouseyMoose · 21/01/2022 21:14

A random quick q for any Mancs on here, is it easy to park in Chorlton near the tram stop?

Me and DH are going to Manchester for the night in a few weeks, despite it only being a 45 minute drive away we only ever go for shopping rather than food/drinks so we decided to book a night away. We are going to meet my cousin first who lives Chorlton way so thinking of getting the tram from Chorlton but is it easy enough to park (for free!)?

YouHaveMail · 21/01/2022 21:33

@PaperMonster east Lancashire (close to North Yorkshire- Skipton 20 mins away)...😁

OK so that didn't work, I tried to quote a post from the start of the thread, just ignore me 🙈
