North west thread

Noting there is a thread for the east side, I thought a north west thread was needed.

--Also I am very bored at the moment waiting for dc to fall asleep, and this felt like the perfect way to spend the time.

Any other NW mumsnetters here? Let's talk schools, food, leisure....and so on

@Starbonnet123 not been in the blundell for years, used to do great sandwiches. But pass it loads to take ds2 to Horwich leisure centre.
When I first moved to Bolton in my mid 20s some of the pubs in town were great. Wouldn’t dream of going there now, so sad.

What was the tacky club in Bolton town centre, near the bus station ?

Ritzy. But that's opposite end ?

Can’t remember, it had toilets with two entrances, binned off a creep by making him wait at one entrance while I legged it out the other

Club Ikon used to be a big club in Bolton.

Phew!

Bunnies are finger rolls. You buy them for parties, or did in the 1960s.

Parties also demanded one or more 'stand pies' - huge pork pies with hard crusts, cut them into eight portions, or six if your guests are hungry. Recently (pre-pandemic) seen on sale in a small town beginning with R, labelled 'Stan' pies. Don't know who Stan is - hope it's not a Sweeney Todd situation.

I’ve never known anyone from outside the area who knows what they are.

Ah! Finger rolls. Usually with tinned salmon on if you wanted party guests to think you were 'posh'.

It became Nutters eventually but now it’s closed.

Finger rolls with salmon paste were my favourite party sandwiches

@Tillymintpolo -yep, they always disappeared first off the buffet.

I loved those @iklboo , my mum always put thin slices of cucumber in them too

Bunnies.

Not bunnies whence I come from!

It was sad to see that Nutters had closed- his other one, The Bird at Birtle Is still open apparently. Had my 30th meal at Nutters and DD’s first afternoon tea was there. It was a lovely restaurant but not in the best location. Especially as so many amazing restaurants sprung up closer to town and village centres.

I was lucky enough to be at The Waterside in Littleborough on its opening night which to me was on a level with Nutters.

And the Del Lago (it’ll always be the Del Lago to me with its “profit roles”) will always have a special place in my heart.

Relocated last year which hasn’t been easy (house left in disgusting state) but teen DD is much happier, her medical care is better for her health conditions, I have a better job AND we can see Blackpool Tower from the end of our driveway!

Ate at Nutters once and was bitterly disappointed.

It's my dad's wake on Sunday. I really want to do salmon paste finger rolls now. And hard boiled eggs with the yolk scooped out, mashed with salad cream & bunged back in.

Do it. But it’s tinned salmon.
