North west thread

Noting there is a thread for the east side, I thought a north west thread was needed.

--Also I am very bored at the moment waiting for dc to fall asleep, and this felt like the perfect way to spend the time.

Any other NW mumsnetters here? Let's talk schools, food, leisure....and so on Grin

@BeQuietBrenda it's called that because of the White House just up the road which has black cats on the walls, it's to do with telling catholics a mass was in progress when they were persecuted, the original house burnt down and has been rebuilt honouring the history of the property with the cats on the wall. There's meant to be a passage to Whalley Abbey nearby for the priest to escape down.

Ohh The Blue Lagoon. Remember swimming in there years ago. Full of broken bottles and all sorts. No idea what I was thinking!
The things you do in your youth!

Starbonnet123 · 26/01/2022 22:02

There's hardly any water in there any more @Oncemoreforluck , I believe it's privately owned now and has sprung a leak which would cost too much to fix .
I know there was a guy years ago that wanted to put a restaurant on the island in the middle but planning permission was refused . It used to be heaving on a sunny weekend .

We prefer Nicky Nook to Rivington Pike with Wallings ice cream from The Barn afterwards. Views from the top are stunning on a clear day.

iklboo · 26/01/2022 22:53

@Tillymintpolo - I'd rather meet up in The Blundell Arms ☺️

I've not been to the blundell for ages @iklboo , maybe we should all arrange a meet up ?

iklboo · 27/01/2022 10:38

Now there's an idea! The food there is gorgeous too.

TheOnlyMrsW · 27/01/2022 11:23

A Booths with a wine bar?????? I'm definitely planning a trip to that one Grin. When we first moved here from darkest Suffolk, Oswaldtwistle completely baffled me!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 27/01/2022 14:42

@TheVolturi I've had a John Bull from the chippy! Never seen them anywhere but Lancaster tbh.

Yep - Tacky Jacks, Squires, Arrabellas (where you stuck to the carpet) Park Hall.

Also - Maximes, Princes, Wigan Pier? My brother hated seeing me in Princes 😂

Midnightstar76 · 27/01/2022 19:36

OMG @Tillymintpolo have frequented nearly all of them in my youth bar 1 Grin

GuyFawkesDay · 27/01/2022 19:47

We used to have 6th form club nights in Arabella's. Fake IDs and underage booze.

Tokyo Jos on Friday night. Preceded by drinks in the Bull and revolution and another bar I can't remember the name of now but it was opposite Arabella's way.

Park Hall for the big clubbing nights they held too.

BradleyCooperwillbemine · 27/01/2022 19:50

Cookie79 · 27/01/2022 21:00

I’ll throw in locations from my misspent youth:

Xanadu’s
Bojangles
Route (Chester Moonshines upstairs)
And The Carlton (escalators in a nightclub - inspired!)
