This is good, can we punish wanket priministers & guffawing cronies too?

Roussette · 13/01/2022 19:46

I'm sure that her 'trauma' will be cured by millions of dollars. How much is she going after the rest of the men for, the ones who are not so well known?

There's nothing like blaming the victims. No wonder the rates of conviction for rape and sexual assault are miniscule
Disgusting post. You should be ashamed

happen to agree with you there judge j , what will be interesting is if she sticks to her guns and pushes for this trial she says she would rather have , as its not about the money , its been about the money before for her , and if andew offers her a settlement and she takes it , for me thats a given really its always been about the money
i hope there actually is a trial , it will be interesting to see her evidence and what shes got to convince a jury that not only did he sleep with her , which im not in any doubt he did , but that as she alleges he knew she was trafficked ,
if shes actually got concrete proof that he knew ,then fair enough but it will be interesting to see what unfolds ,

VG has spent a decade pursuing justice against the most powerful people who perpetrated the abuse against her and others, yes. She has also founded a non-profit organisation working to support and advocate for victims of trafficking.

Civil cases are the only legal avenue open to victims of abuse. People can only operate within the frameworks available, and to denigrate them for doing so is shameful.

Damages is the only remedy available in a civil case, although I am sure plenty of victims would prefer to see their abusers be imprisoned instead.

Spudlet · 13/01/2022 19:49

@DreamTheMoors

Right?!

I mean on one hand we have Harry and Megan - decided to move abroad, given to making slightly annoying airy fairy statements, did an interview which was a bit embarrassing for the family, overly fond of photos without shoes.

Then on the other hand we have Andrew - was mates with a convicted paedophile, stayed with said pedo several times, stayed mates with him after his conviction, was also friends with a now convicted sex trafficker, did an absolutely disastrous interview about the whole situation full of totally unbelievable claims, and let’s not forget, just to top things off has been accused of having sex with a trafficked 17 year old, and there is even a picture of the two of them together. And his defence is that ‘he can’t sweat’. And he’s also been widely disliked for decades. And while this is certainly his worst scandal, it’s not his first (remember Airmiles Andy?).

I mean, how are these two situations and people in any way comparable?!

Roussette · 13/01/2022 19:50

Well said Spudlet

I see we've been invaded by the rape apologists again.

user1641832968632486258 · 13/01/2022 19:51

Vile attitudes like those expressed on this thread blaming VG for her abuse are the reason this kind of abuse and trafficking is able to occur in the first place.

Every person who blames victims for sexual abuse is complicit in that abuse occurring in our society.

Roussette · 13/01/2022 19:51

@user1641832968632486258

Great post. I agree with all you say. There's such ignorance on this thread

It’s interesting that people view the Queen as never having put a foot wrong - that certainly wasn’t the view of her when Diana died. She was often seen as sour faced but now she’s become a cute old lady nobody can say a word against her
WHen Diana died the Queen did nothing wrong, the frenzy was whipped up by the media. If someone's former daughter in law dies, does the ex's family usually wade in and take over? Blair's office saw a way to score poijnts and decided that the Royal Family should elbow the Spencer family aside and allow them, No 10, take over. HM's reaction was to protect her grandsons in their grief as I believe any loving grandmother would, she put them before 'duty', something she had been criticised for not doing.

There is video footage of the entrance to Epstein's property when Andrew last stayed with him. Showing young girls coming and going and even Andrew showing one of those girls out and waving her goodbye.

He didn't just visit a convicted sexual offender, he was videoed stayed there as young girls entered the premises.

The footage is on All4.

Pandamumium · 13/01/2022 19:55

‘Andrew stripped’ - isn’t that what got him into this trouble in the first place.

Roussette · 13/01/2022 19:55

@user1641832968632486258

Yes. I've seen the footage many times. What is odd though... it used to be far clearer and lighter than it was. It's now been doctored I think. More grainy and darker.
I wonder why .... well, in fact I don't wonder at all.

Given that it’s a hereditary monarchy I’m not sure they can strip the title. Stopping use of it is all they can do, and it is a very strong statement.

Personally I think it must be a terrible thing to have to do for Her Majesty, but (and I no doubt sound pompous) she has this day restored some honour to the tainted name of Great Britain.

If only Her Majesty’s prime minister and ministers now follow that example, because it is embarrassing to be British right now with the amount of corruption, incompetence, and wrangling over legally agreed treaties right now.

Yes I agree. The UK has many strengths, not least a public with a sense of humour. But the last 5 years in particular it has been very hard to feel anything other than embarrassment and a times real shame at what is going in in our Country / institutions.
derxa · 13/01/2022 19:59

did an interview which was a bit embarrassing for the family They accused a family member of being racist and refused to name the person.
I agree that Andrew is a million times worse

HesterShaw1 · 13/01/2022 19:59

Why do posters keep using HRH for the Queen? She's HM.

Smashedavacado · 13/01/2022 19:59

But he hasn't actually had his royal titles stripped - that would take a new act of parliament I believe. He is still Prince Andrew, Duke of York.

billy1966 · 13/01/2022 20:01

He's scum, and it is, too little too late.

I don't see a court case going ahead, too many knew only too well the type of scum he is.

I feel the Queen is so damaged by this, which is so sad, because I do think she has lived a life of service, even if I'm not a royalist.

The complicity to his behaviour runs deep in the royal household.

I think the swift action is the result of shock that the judgment didn't go his way, which many expected, and a scrambled running for cover.

It won't work IMO.

The judge was brave and put the US judicial reputation, such as it is, ahead of any preferred ruling.

They can call him Andrew all they like, but he is at the very heart of the privilege and entitlement that has facilitated his awful behaviour for decades, often at the cost of British tax payers.

A trial would be marvellous winter '22 entertainment, but unlikely to happen unfortunately.

TheWomandestroyed · 13/01/2022 20:01

@Puzzledandpissedoff

While we can easily hypothetically say “If that was my son I would….” In truth there are likely a lot more parents who would support their children than abandon them

Nobody's suggested she should abandon him privately, but she didn't need to support him quite so publicly either - the two fingers to the public when horseriding for the cameras, the high honour when the Epstein story broke, etc.
Wonder if she thinks that was such a good idea now?

When it comes to her funeral, I expect he'll want to be there as a "private person", but there's a risk of people making their feelings known in a way that could be unpleasant. So maybe it would be better if they took him to the abbey in the back of a van or something?

Yes I remember, I think it was just after his NN interview, but could have been after another time of revelation I can't remember exactly when , the Queen rocked up to Church, accompanied by just PA. I thought the lack of judgement was astonishing. I mean it must have been to give a message to the public that she supported him,what other conclusion is there?

yes , but now though she has a chance that it can go to court which is what shes said shed prefer , so its all up to andrew now , will he offer her a settlement , will he go to trial , or will he let it go to trial ,but refuse to give evidence in which case he looks as guilty as offering to pay her off , so now she does have at least a bit of a choice , what will be interesting is if he offers her money and she takes it , rather than go to trial which unless im reading everything wrong is what she now has the chance of finally
