Anyone tried the McDonald's McPlant?

Legodout · 11/01/2022 16:14

Interested in anyone's views before I try at the weekend! I am a big fan of fake-meat burgers (the only category of fake meat I think is indistinguishable from/superior to the original) and usually have Linda McCartney's or Co-Ops own brand, so looking forward to trying this!

On a side note, anyone have a good fake-meat sausage recommendations? None I've tried have hit the mark.

Thanks!

Tell people that you hang your washing in the front garden. That will run and run,

Loo brush?

StillMedusa · 11/01/2022 21:53

I hvaven't eaten a Mc anything for years..hated burgers even when I did eat meat, but ended up at a service station recently, very little choice, and tried a Leon vegan Love burger as the other veggie options were out of stock.
To my surprise it was really good.
I wouldn't eat any fast food by choice, but when necessary it's nice there ARE options these days! I remember touring the states as a teenager where they just gave me blank looks of incomprehension when I said 'no meat'!!!

Leon is brilliant for veggie/vegans.

I tried one for the first time last night, and I wasn’t expecting great things (not sure why!). However, it was delicious! I definitely recommend it.

I am pretty sure this is not what you intended by posting this but all this has achieved is make me crave a yet another McPlant... I have already had three this week Blush.

I am not sure how far the nearest 24 hours McDoanlds is from me but I might send DP out to get me one anyway.

I have a suspicion that the plant-based/vegan food industry is driven by the industry itself rather than by well meaning vegans - a lot of the food being marketed is ultra processed crap, and not healthy or eco friendly at all.

For clarity. Sounds like a pretty standard list of ingredients. Everything else is the same as a meat burger.

BackBackBack · 12/01/2022 09:10

The Leon love burger is very nice. I haven't tried the McPlant. Not keen on the BK one - would rather have an actual bean burger TBH.

I'd bow down and worship forever if someone could crack a decent vegan cheese. They are rank - awful chemical coconut oil smell and they taste yuk. Cheese is the only thing I really miss. I know some "almost vegans" (their words) who eat eggs because they raise their own or buy from smallholdings and are confident of the chickens conditions etc. But despite being sorely tempted - because I really do love cheese) I can't justify anything dairy.

Notdoingthis · 12/01/2022 09:33

What is wrong with these ingredients please?

Tomnooktoldmeto · 12/01/2022 09:47

We love the beyond meat products, we’re a coeliac veggie family and it’s the best by far burger we can eat, as for sausage they do one and it’s currently on offer at Costco if you can access one

Tobleroney · 12/01/2022 09:48

Imagine it was a Mc gluten-free burger or a Mc low calorie burger or a Mc allergen-free burger... No fuss whatsoever!!! It's only the plant-based stuff that gets the kind of microscopic scrutiny, internet dietician ''experts'', copied and pasted ingredients lists and fake 'concern' from evangelistic meat-eaters, a few of which hopped onto this thread earlier...

Whilst I agree with the fake concern comment, gluten-free does invite a lot of scrutiny and is also a health need rather than lifestyle choice.
Hemingwayzcatz · 12/01/2022 10:33

Yes, I had it at the weekend and it was amazing! Loved it. I have had a cheeseburger without the meat over the years so it was thrilling to have some fake meat in there.

Yeah, it wasn't the point of the thread but I also don't think the ingredients list of the vegan patty is particularly scary...
longtompot · 12/01/2022 11:15

The comments about the ingredients remind me of the comments on recipe websites. Especially for mayonnaise recipes where people don't realise just how much oil is in mayonnaise and say how disgusting and unhealthy it is!

I for one will be interested in trying the new McDonald's plant burger. I find meat difficult to eat sometimes and have found the plant burgers give the flavour I'm looking for without the chewing issues.
My dd has a dairy allergy and also wants to cut down in the amount of meat she eats until she eventually gives it up, so something like this will be good for her as hopefully they will be much more careful about cross contamination. Sadly, when she has ordered a Big Mac without cheese, she has been given it without realising. Even when the sticker on the box says no cheese.

BoredZelda · 12/01/2022 11:22

Also 100% beef is made up from commercial cuts. I’ll leave you to google what constitutes a commercial cut of meat.

Indeed. The beef is just as processed.

BoredZelda · 12/01/2022 11:50

Yeah, sounds really scary when you put it like that. What an awful chemical-ful burger. Nobody wants that, eh?

Much better to have, say a banana. Let's look at it's ingredients:

Water. Sugars (12%) (glucose (48%), Fructose (40%), sucrose (2%), maltose (

BoredZelda · 12/01/2022 11:55

The cheese is vegan cheese.

Ignore last, I read it that she had ordered a McPlant.....

DrCoconut · 12/01/2022 12:02

They need to start doing a gluten free option. Preferably with a veggie option built in. Its really naff having to buy a bunless burger while everyone else is tucking in. Other countries McDonalds manage it so why can't we?

DrCoconut · 12/01/2022 12:17

@ISpyCobraKai BK revamped the bean burger and ruined it. It's just bland mush now. I can no longer eat them due to coeliac but an old style BK bean burger would be on my food bucket list were I to have one.

BertieBotts · 12/01/2022 12:42

I get this too - I don't eat cheese and people put it on stuff anyway. It's disgusting greasy stuff that melds itself with everything so you can't even just take it off. I have absolutely no idea what people see in it.

ButtonSister · 12/01/2022 12:50

A few months ago there was a tv programme about the perils of ultra processed foods, MN was awash with threads of people commenting on how they would now eradicate UP from their diet. The fact that an UP item is tasty and convenient does not make it healthier.
