Phrases you hate reading on mumsnet

I’ve been on mumsnet for about 18 years and you know what, if I read about people putting ducks in a row once more I might go mental.
What phrase do you hate.

OP posts:
midsomermurderess · 08/01/2022 13:22

'Red flag'; 'ducks in a row' (not so common now maybe, the cliche penny perhaps dropping) and the endless banging on about sodding 'boundaries'. Yes, of course they're a good thing, but in any given thread, on and on and on they go. It's a sign that the pseudo-counsellors have arrived. Oh yes, and 'there's always one', if someone dares to buck the trend of a thread.
Finally, not a word, but this Hmm. It adds nothing and makes the user look both snide and idiotic.

Mummytosufie12 · 08/01/2022 13:24

Great idea for a thread OP!

Mine may be slightly irrational but it’s ‘living rurally’.

It seems if a poster lives within 10 mins of some open green space they ‘live rurally’. Especially it seems UK posters. I’m aware MN is multicultural in its demographic.

We can’t possible entertain doing anything ever because we ‘live rurally’ and it’s like living on the moon. As if they live in the deepest darkest depths of outback Australia where it may be a several days drive to the nearest supermarket. I get that some people choose to live in the countryside and far away from certain amenities but the UK is fairly small as far as a lot of countries go and relatively well connected.

I’ve never heard a single person outside of MN say ‘oh, we live rurally’. It’s we live in the countryside or out in the sticks or a**e end of nowhere.

Vile
Horrid
Utterly

All hugely over-used.

FanGirlX · 08/01/2022 13:24

@WobblyLondoner

"Making memories". Just horrible. Go out, do nice things, have fun, take pictures etc.
Making memories is so twee.

🤮

MatildaJayne · 08/01/2022 13:25

Opens popcorn 🍿 sits back…

Actually I don’t really mind that. Grin

Dislike ‘place marking.’ Learn how to use ‘watch this thread.’

Sparklingbrook · 08/01/2022 13:25

I'm semi rural @Mummytosufie12-best of both worlds. Grin

crabb · 08/01/2022 13:27

“I threw up a little in my mouth”. No you didn’t! It isn’t a thing. Along with “ makes my teeth itch”. Another one that isn’t a thing. Your teeth cannot itch 😡

StillNo · 08/01/2022 13:27

‘Just buy in help.’

Oh, ok! Why didn’t I think of that!? 🙄

Agree with ‘bunfight.’ Where I come from it means a tea party or gathering with cake and buns. As in, ‘it’s Linda’s leaving do next week, we’ve organised some flowers and a bunfight.’

cantbeforeal · 08/01/2022 13:27

'Eat less, move more' and 'man here'

Noshowlomo · 08/01/2022 13:28

Reader… CRINGE

“Reader, I married him”
“Reader, I got the job”

Feck off

Sparklingbrook · 08/01/2022 13:28

Itchy teeth and boiling piss are two new symptoms of Omicron i think. Grin

Ohmycron · 08/01/2022 13:28

I read and run all the time. Largely because the post is fucking boring

OP posts:
waterlego · 08/01/2022 13:28

‘Spidey senses’ sounds very childish and makes me cringe.

Ohmycron · 08/01/2022 13:29

Totally agree with throwing up in your mouth, where else does vomit come from

OP posts:
HoldingTheDoor · 08/01/2022 13:29

“I threw up a little in my mouth”. No you didn’t! It isn’t a thing.

Unfortunately it is a thing. It's never been prompted by an MN thread in my case though.

LondonWolf · 08/01/2022 13:29

Any thread that starts “So…” as though we’ve all been Sat having a cosy coffee together and they’re introducing a new topic to an ongoing discussion.

Also “why did you have kids with him then?” Not like they can be sent back is it?!

0blio · 08/01/2022 13:29

I don't mind some of the above but on a food thread I really hate when someone talks about 'Toms and Pots'. And of course 'Picky Bits', eugh.

StillNo · 08/01/2022 13:29

Or threads to do with issues with ‘my DH’s hobby. I won’t say what it is as it’s rather outing.’

It’s triathlon, or one of the components thereof. Or golf. Every time.

100problems · 08/01/2022 13:30

Any response that begins "Um" or "Er" where the poster is contradicting another post and trying to appear super-clever in doing so.

Any post that ends "Grr" or "Gah"

Any post that states an opinion that's them watered down with "I dunno, suppose it's just me"

Fast forward x in time

Any reference to Snapped and Farted which was icily unfunny at the time and doesn't improve with age

Sparklingbrook · 08/01/2022 13:30

'It's not an airport you don't have to announce your departure' said multiple times on a thread where a poster is having a flounce as if they are the first poster to say it.

StillNo · 08/01/2022 13:30

Also “why did you have kids with him then?” Not like they can be sent back is it?!

Ohhh yes this is one of the worst.

HerBigChance · 08/01/2022 13:30

'You sound snobby, OP' - written when an OP dares to query something that others feel obliged to like.

'Imagine if the sexes were reversed' always delivered as a smug gotcha even though it rarely applies the way they think it does.

Completely agree with this and I'm tired of seeing this phrase on here. This is a site largely used by women, representing a primarily female perspective. Men have got the rest of the internet to moan about women and I haven't noticed them shying away from doing so.

I read Snapped and farted because I have to confess that I didn't see it (or chose to hide it probably) when it was 'live'. Read the whole thing. But no-I do not understand it still.
Ohmycron · 08/01/2022 13:32

The only thread that has made me laugh for ages is that sex one, I’m laughing now as I type this, where she ended up with shit on the headboard
