Phrases you hate reading on mumsnet

I’ve been on mumsnet for about 18 years and you know what, if I read about people putting ducks in a row once more I might go mental.
What phrase do you hate.

There was a lot of debate as to what word would bring up the Brew emoji. A lot of debate. Unfortunately, brew won over cuppa, mug and probably some other options.

JustJustWhy · 18/01/2022 09:51

"Brew" reminds me of Fizz on Coronation Street. 😬 😬 😬

pictish · 18/01/2022 10:44

He/she is a grown adult and it's time he/she behaved like one. Put him/her out to fend for him/herself.!

When said about an 18 yr old. Arseholes wouldn't kick their own kid out. Shut the fuck up.

UrbanMage · 18/01/2022 11:01

Late to the party (as usual) but it's the ones on the style and beauty board that make me cringe:
"Get a smart bag/coat/boots" when trying to explain how to look better/richer. Honestly, I could deck myself out in the finest but I'd still look like a Bogtroll!

HtH is too passive aggressive for me. And boak makes me feel nauseous.

JuergenSchwarzwald · 18/01/2022 11:09

Fam

Is it really that hard to type family? I'd have thought by the time you got to fam the autocorrect would finish the word anyway Grin

StrawberrySanta · 18/01/2022 12:44

"unmumsnetty hug"

What's so unmumsnetty about it?!

SoupDragon · 18/01/2022 12:49

@StrawberrySanta

"unmumsnetty hug"

What's so unmumsnetty about it?!

Ah, this is historical. Mumsnet doesn't do "hugs n huns", that"s Netmums. We are not as fluffy.
ItsSunnyOutside · 18/01/2022 13:07

The word 'utterly' gets used alot on MN, but I hardly ever hear people use it in real life. It just sounds so stuffy, especially when it's used twice for good measure " I was utterly, utterly disgusted" "AIBU to be utterly, utterly angry with xxxx"

'' You do you"

Give your head a wobble

I am guilty of using the word 'brew' from time to time. That one is not going anywhere I'm afraid, it's ingrained in me now!

TooMuchPaper · 18/01/2022 20:38

Vipers.
Hive mind.
Sobbing, proper sobbing.
Ugly crying.

StrawberrySanta · 19/01/2022 11:05

Interesting! I wonder if everyone who uses it knows the history or is just repeating what they've seen others use

WomanStanleyWoman · 19/01/2022 16:59

‘Word salad’. Used by people who think they’re far cleverer than they actually are.

WindInTheWillows7 · 19/01/2022 17:42

"You HAVE to leave him!! NOW."

Literally every post about DH issues has a good handful of comments like this, no matter how minor /fixable the issue is. I think it's just a lazy alternative to giving helpful or nuanced relationship advice.

"DH keeps leaving his socks on the floor"
"OP why are you putting up with this? For your sanity, for your children, leave him NOW!!!!"

Thisisit2022 · 19/01/2022 19:58

"DH keeps leaving his socks on the floor"
"OP why are you putting up with this? For your sanity, for your children, leave him NOW!!!!"

But of course, they must get these in a row first! 🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆

Viviennemary · 20/01/2022 12:22

Or burn all his socks so he will have no socks to leave on the floor. Then somebody says please don't do this OP.

WomanStanleyWoman · 21/01/2022 09:25

I forgot this one - “I’m furious on your behalf!!”

Really? I can get sympathising with an OP and thinking they’ve been treated badly, but ‘furious’? Seriously?

AuntyBumBum · 21/01/2022 16:24

Irregardless 🤬

I've just seen another real life one on a thread.
