Hello Ladies - hopefully a new thread for you... @Carosel2 @Whitestar55 @Chrissols @danblack87 @flutterby18 @wfh21 @workingfromhomenow @cherryblossom114 @Lovemydaxie @homeworkmum and anyone else I have forgotten.

@danblack87 - I hope you are feeling better. I have my booster tomorrow - and everyone I know who have had their booster have had side effects, even if they were fine with the previous injections, so not looking forward to it.

The dictations are dire today but from previous comments obviously no point in bringing any of these to DICT8's notice (I think one task has been there two or three days) as despite their email informing us to report such tasks it seems they do not really want to know.

danblack87 · 18/01/2022 13:23

@Gally123: Update me how you feel after your booster.

Gally123 · 18/01/2022 13:26

@danblack87 - okay - have you had yours yet?

danblack87 · 18/01/2022 13:30

Yes, back in December - No side-effects Smile BUT then I got COVID New Year???!!!

Workingfromhomenow · 18/01/2022 14:11

I had the Pfizer booster before Christmas and was absolutely fine after it and so were a few others I know so hopefully you will be too. I have to go to my niece’s engagement party at the end of January and I’m a bit worried about picking up Covid as even three jabs don’t seem to be foolproof. I’ve been avoiding crowds for ages now so it will be very strange. I’d rather not go really but feel I have to.

Gally123 · 18/01/2022 14:41

@Workingfromhomenow - thanks for the info re booster. As to crowds, I did manage a few days holiday last year (Devon) and this year (Stratford) and while a little hesitant about people in hotels etc there were no problems. The usual thing, at the start of the holiday this year everyone was wearing a mask on the coach and moving around the hotel but after two or three days were a little lax. Last year masks were compulsory on coach and in hotel (and we even had our temperature taken every day), so now I think having survived that I could cope with restaurants etc (although not sure about long flights).

@Gally123 agree about reporting tasks they actually make you feel a bit worthless by insinuating you are not up to the job ! I think if they send an email like that then maybe the whole of DICT8 HQ should sing from the same hymn sheet !!!

Gally123 · 18/01/2022 15:49

@wfh21 - I have lost count of the number of times I have been pulled up on something layout wise, so done the next few letters as instructed only to get further feedback telling me I am doing it wrong and to do what I was originally doing in the first place. Doh!

Typing forever and sod all to show for it today 😢

carosel2 · 18/01/2022 22:52

Just about.all.my family now have had Covid and some twice over. I havent had it once!.We have all had injections needed old.and young. Latest 7 with it whom ive been in touch with regulalrly and I'm still proving negative. This has been ongoing since Christmas with me in the thick of it all as im carer for grandchildren and others living at home with it. Just dont understand how.it works. Its so rife but yet im still waiting. I feel like a ticking time bomb! I have had my booster (and had no side effects, I was.lucky) Hubby same but hes contracted it. I keep doing flos regularly but still negative, not that im complaining!. With it being so rife im just wondering when im next but find it bizarre ive not had it yet with so much spreading round my family. On another note dictation is dire as usual and makes it, as someone said before, so boring. Its monotonous. I have no motivation at all when every letter is a toil that needs web searching for names, meds and terminology. Again, the note box is so unfair that we type so.much in there and don't get paid for it. Think dict8 missed their opportunity in making a quick pound themselves when telling clients notes arent charged. As far as im concerned clients are abusing it and getting in as much of the letter in there as possible! Makes.me.smile sometimes because when they say copy and.paste then give an array.of instructions saying change number 5 to this and add in this to numer 1.etc. surely it would be quicker for them in the long run just reeling off the.list in front of them from a last letter and then adding in the alterations to each number that needs changing without the speel to go with it?

Gally123 · 19/01/2022 11:49

@carosel2 - you may be naturally immune to COVID. There have been instances reported in papers of NHS workers in close contact with suffers on ITU wards etc not developing it and seeming to have natural immunity, one reason why they do not want the vaccination (although I think NHS staff refusing jabs sends out the wrong message - how can you expect other people to, if they do not?)
Also there is one chap on Tpro that I got caught out with - he regularly says to cut and paste previous diagnosis and medications and I did that the first time, and then he dictates everything just in case and as it is VR it is all there, no need to waste time finding the previous letter etc!
@danblack87 - had my jab. As my family had mentioned I did feel the needle go in but it is okay so far. I came home and made a cup of tea and had a chocolate that my sister gave me the other day as a treat (as children we always had treats after jabs etc).

Whitestar55 · 19/01/2022 12:12

@carosel2 - perhaps you are one of the fortunate ones who fights off the Covid virus immediately with your T cells reducing your viral load to an undetectable level on the lateral flow test.

Regarding DICT8, I do get concerned as more Trusts realise that even though outsourcing typing is cheaper than that in-house, most of the transcriptions then have to be re-processed by their in-house secretaries anyway to add in the cut and pastes and notes box queries etc, which is quite time consuming, they might not find it as cost effective as claimed. I wonder if DICT8 are actually looking into ways of improving this to stay ahead of the game like the other companies appear to be doing. As much as I find the work quite taxing, I wouldn't like to see DICT8 be driven out of the market. The rate of pay for transcribers has to improve though, otherwise we'll be driven out ourselves.

wfh21 · 19/01/2022 13:12

@Whitestar55
I agree about the pay especially after my disappointing day yesterday. I have started looking for alternative work and keeping an eye on the Med Sec job market, which seems to have a lot of vacancies and somewhere along the line what with those not wishing to be jabbed in the health sector it might go back to the good old days where you could name your rate 🤞

Fireworksatforty · 19/01/2022 14:02

Hi

Can I join? I'm an nhs med sec but have signed up to Dict8 to do a bit extra in my spare time. Second day today. Got a long email last night with all my errors! Some of the dictation is awful! Just plodding along and seeing how I get on really.....Smile

Gally123 · 19/01/2022 14:15

@Fireworksatforty - Hello and welcome. Yes, sometimes the feedback can be a little overwhelming - but just remember they are just like you and me and often only guessing what the dictation is. It is just like in the office when you cannot understand something and ask your co-workers what they think, and there are various opinions - who is to say who is correct? The layout rules take a while to get used to. Just grin and bear it.

@Fireworksatforty Hi and welcome. Don't worry, it takes a while to get used to DICT8 and sometimes the dictation is awful and other times not too bad.

Fireworksatforty · 19/01/2022 15:31

Thanks both Smile

carosel2 · 19/01/2022 15:33

@Fireworksatforty - oh poor you, don't worry we have all been there and even now when you think you have the experience they throw in the comments. Just remember not to take it personally, you'll soon get the hang of it I'm sure Smile Good luck!

wfh21 · 19/01/2022 16:23

@Fireworksatforty hi, I was looking back at some of my old feedback comments (saved some) the other day as I was looking for some comment that was sent about a drug name, and actually found myself getting upset just reading through them !!! It takes time to be able to let them wash over you, especially as we are lone workers.

Fireworksatforty · 19/01/2022 18:13

Thanks everyone you've definitely helped me not get too bothered by the comments!

Workingfromhomenow · 19/01/2022 18:56

@fireworksatforty I would second what everyone else has said. The feedback, especially when you’re new, can be quite demoralising but it does lessen as you get used to the Dict8 ways. It’s a shame they have stopped giving good feedback when they checked our work and found no mistakes - that did balance things out a bit. I’m sure you’ll soon get into it….. and there are a few decent dictators out there. I’ve had a few today and it’s a real treat! I would advise to always use Alt +N if you’re not sure of what is said. At least then it brings the bad dictation to someone’s attention.

ShanJG · 20/01/2022 09:41

Hi guys. Hope you all had a great Christmas & New Year (late to the party ha ha). I’ve did hardly any typing for DICT8 to be fair. I’ve been focusing so much on T-Pro and just can’t look past how good the dictation is and how much better the system is not having to type in details etc. However I think I will do some typing here and there with DICT8 as I don’t want to be removed from the system as T-Pro os only just starting to pick up again after being so quiet over Christmas & New Year.

Hope you are all well and getting plenty of work!Smile

danblack87 · 20/01/2022 09:53

Hi all, I am having a reasonable morning. Just finished a long, decent task!!

danblack87 · 20/01/2022 13:50

@Fireworksatforty: I hope you enjoy it once you get into it. I too had same problems as all transcribers when I started BUT once you get used to the layout's 'Dict8 way of doing things' you will be fine I am sure Smile.

danblack87 · 20/01/2022 13:53

Hi @ShanJG - There's always one 'late to the party' and always the late to the party has not missed anything exciting!! Happy New Year. Smile. I seem to have been L8 to a few parties lately mostly due to non-attendance LOL
