Hello all. Saw this thread come up in active and have read through the entire thing.

I am actually signed up with Dict8, but haven't types any letters for them for about 6 year (was busy being a sahm, then covid hit and was busy home schooling, etc).

Now DC are back at school, dh is WFH less and less meaning I've got some spare time to fill during the day and this thread has reminded me I could potentially go back to audio typing.

Does anyone here type Head & Neck (ent, max fax, etc)? If so, could you let me know what it's like at the moment, work volume wise/clarity of dictation, etc (please feel free to DM me if you don't fancy outing yourself on this thread).

Cherryblossom114 · 23/03/2022 14:20

I think about a year ago applied to We Type but nil pwa todate ☠

musicismagic333 · 23/03/2022 14:28

Cherryblossom114 That might have been when I applied, so long ago I can't remember. So, watch this space, they may well contact you.

danblack87 · 23/03/2022 14:40

@CliveThighs: In the Specialities I work for it is pretty regular volume wise (Surgical), clarity is excellent/good or pretty fair on most but you still get the mumblers. RTX crosses into my task list (I have more than 3) AND THIS hospital, more than fair to say in my opinion (and many others), dictation is a complete incoherent mess and blocks the whole system as nobody wants to type the tasks whatever the Speciality)!!! I have very good days But some bad AND reasonable to very good weekends. Much the norm really.

Newinmarch22 · 23/03/2022 14:41

danblack87 - am with you there. I'm sure the dictation is getting worse every day. So frustrating sitting about waiting for something that is clear enough to transcribe. As you say a lot of the time there are 5 tasks that are completely inaudible, why can't they take them off if they are still on there after a certain length of time! And had some feedback about an abbreviation I have been using for the past 20 years that they say is incorrect and it is not!

danblack87 · 23/03/2022 14:49

@Newinmarch22: If you have been pulled about abbreviation it is because we have to type what is dictated so standard to me: BPPV, AOA, TM, PTA, etc can only be used if dictated otherwise they have to be typed in full Smile.

danblack87 · 23/03/2022 14:58

I think it is a definite 90% avoid WeType UNLESS anyone on here can vouch for their reputation [anyone out there??] ... not ticked in my book ... tried once - never again!!!

musicismagic333 · 23/03/2022 16:04

Wow. This company must be terrible for none of you to stay with them, and not one good word for them. Amazing they have any staff at all.

Meha5a · 23/03/2022 16:59

😭😱😭😱 this is me today

Whitestar55 · 23/03/2022 17:33

WeType sounds like a scam, what awful practice, the ultimate in exploitation, plus they cannot specify how and when and what work you do if you are taken on SE. Makes DICT8 look wonderful! I've had quite a good day by the usual DICT8 standards today, I hope it lasts.

musicismagic333 · 24/03/2022 12:31

Fingers crossed for you. I've done a few today and there's one doctor who even spelt the names of the patient and the specialist they're referring patient to. I felt thoroughly spoilt!

Whitestar55 · 24/03/2022 14:04

It's the usual mixed substandard stuff today.

Meha5a · 24/03/2022 14:34

Nice clear dictation today so different from yesterday, hope it continues !

Cherryblossom114 · 27/03/2022 23:59

Happy Mother's Day everyone 🎉🎊

musicismagic333 · 28/03/2022 12:19

And to you too. Had a nice Mothers Day Saturday, daughter's a nurse and she was working yesterday.

Meha5a · 30/03/2022 09:39

So I had feedback about punctuation recently requesting I change the dictated punctuation and put note in box giving reason ?? I thought we typed as dictated ??? I think this company needs to address some of the appalling dictation they send our way before getting involved with the punctuation side of things !!!!

Gally123 · 30/03/2022 09:57

@Meha5a - I have in the past changed the punctuation such as put in full stops where none dictated. I have occasionally changed "new line" and "new paragraph" as people do not seem to know the difference. I rarely put a message in the notes box.

I think if more and more is expected of us in terms of checking then it is time they raised the rate of pay.

Workingfromhomenow · 30/03/2022 09:59

@Meha5a Just read your comment and then typing a letter when immediately I had to correct something - I think I just do this automatically when it's just grammar or punctuation if it's obviously wrong. I wouldn't ever think of doing an Alt N as this would seem very petty and I can imagine the secretaries receiving the letters back getting very annoyed - I would if I was them!

Meha5a · 30/03/2022 11:48

@Gally123, I used to do the same in the past until I got a feedback asking me to type as dictated !!! Some doctors don't bother with punctuation and I do it then but if they punctuate throughout the letter I presume that's how they want it, as from my own personal experience the doctors used to get annoyed if their punctuation was changed (especially consultants) It's very hard to known right from wrong with this company !!!

@Workingfromhomenow yes I found that comment bizarre, what are you supposed to write - Dear Doctor, your punctuation is crap - here is how it should be done 🤣🤣

Gally123 · 30/03/2022 11:53

@Meha5a - I have just remembered that there used to be a chap (not typed him for ages) who just to say "stop" after every three words. Could be interesting.

OP posts:
Meha5a · 30/03/2022 12:40

@Gally123 when I first started there used to be one who would dictate period at the end of everything (which I typed) as I thought they were just being assertive 🤣🤣🤣🤣 in their letter writing - didn't realise it was a full stop for ages 😂😂😂

Whitestar55 · 30/03/2022 19:30

It won't be long before we're typing the whole flipping letter in the notes box at this rate 🤣

Meha5a · 31/03/2022 13:17

8 minutes to do a 1 minute task 🙄 and I expect the feedback will be dire, honestly I give up !!!!!

Gally123 · 31/03/2022 18:52

well I am quite satisfied with this month - I know it had 23 working days, which is more than most months, but I had my best month since March 2017. Earned my bonus with Tpro and also double with DICT8 what I earned last month, although that is not saying much! (However, I need it as my new roof is fitted next month and two of the quotes I had were more than one year's wages...) Won't be so much next month as April only has 19 working days, plus I am expecting noisy workmen, so less than 19 days in effect....

OP posts:
WatermelonRed · 31/03/2022 22:04

I didn’t do too badly this morning, considering I had so many days with no work coming through.

I had one mumbler today who also spoke so fast it was literally a blur in places. Kept having to put note after note as it really was just inaudible noise Confused Makes me wonder if they ever listen to their own recordings to realise how they sound
