Hello Ladies - hopefully a new thread for you... @Carosel2 @Whitestar55 @Chrissols @danblack87 @flutterby18 @wfh21 @workingfromhomenow @cherryblossom114 @Lovemydaxie @homeworkmum and anyone else I have forgotten.

I can honestly say I have no idea regarding the rules for line counts - I am baffled Confused

carosel2 · 16/03/2022 09:35

I suppose we could type a short letter and count the characters and see how it divides out to what lines they allocate to the task! 😁, do they count spaces? I'm clueless to this too 🤪

danblack87 · 16/03/2022 09:59

@Carosel2: I shall pass on counting characters (and spaces) it won't make an ounce of difference to what we are paid in any event!!!! I do have time today 'cos so far I am not able to type any of the tasks showing Sad

danblack87 · 16/03/2022 10:01

When I typed 'theses' spaces were counted in the character count.

danblack87 · 16/03/2022 10:03

Actually in typing 'theses' it was 'word' count not spaces

Whitestar55 · 16/03/2022 10:33

I seem to remember it was stated that spaces aren't included in the count. I wonder also if the last line is short by one character (64 instead of 65) is that discounted? Do they have a cut off? I wonder if we'll find out?

musicismagic333 · 16/03/2022 10:34

Gally123 That's interesting, I'm happy not to bother - you can't get anyone less IT savvy than moi! Also, I'm happy doing bits and pieces, I wouldn't want set hours or days.

deewu · 16/03/2022 13:14

So if you have a task with no dictation on they give you 1 line, the date and "there is no dictation on this task" adds up to 45 characters (no spaces) and 54 with spaces. Does that help? I think they must round up.

Gally123 · 16/03/2022 13:24

@deewu - doesn't "no dictation on this task" go in the notes box, which is unpaid? I think in that instance of just the date they pay one line as they cannot give 0p for a task submitted if there is something on it.

OP posts:
danblack87 · 16/03/2022 13:27

@deewu: You only get paid for the Date: XX month XXXX. [No dictation on task] (in note box - not paid)

Whitestar55 · 16/03/2022 13:30

@deewu Thanks for that. I just wonder at what point they round up, i.e. would we get 8 pence for the 1 extra character if the task had 66 characters? Would they count it as a whole line or do they have a cut off around the middle? It would be nice to know exactly what we are getting paid for (or not).

danblack87 · 16/03/2022 13:30

@deewu: I agree with @Gally123 - so that must also apply to the end of the letter:

Many thanks.

Kind regards.

Your sincerely

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

joewe41 · 16/03/2022 13:34

@musicismagic333 With Tpro do you work full-time? They've answered my application but said they are looking minimum of 700 letters a month. Don't think it's going to be possible especially if I'm on placement for 6 weeks. Looks like I'm stuck Cake Biscuit Gin

deewu · 16/03/2022 13:50

I never use the note box for this. I have never been pulled up on it:)

Whitestar55 · 16/03/2022 13:54

As we are self-employed I don't think they can really specify how much and just when you do the work, it's probably just a guide. Others who work for Tpro will be able to enlighten you though I'm sure.

Whitestar55 · 16/03/2022 13:57

@Gally123 @deewu I'm sure in the DICT8 user guide, it says to type 'no dictation blaa blaa blaa' in the main box anyway, or at least it used to.

deewu · 16/03/2022 14:21

I have just come off the phone with Tpro, I did the typing test yesterday. I am going to give it a go starting in April. What foot pedal does everyone use? I don't use one currently. I was also wondering as @musicmagic333 how strict they are about the number of characters/letters per week/month?

Gally123 · 16/03/2022 14:43

@deewu - it takes a while to get into it - but I now do about 1200 letters a month, although my contract says 150 a week. Takes about 3 weeks to hit the bonus paid mark. I have done less on occasions. If time is a constraint you can pick short letters and easily do 10 or 20 in 30 minutes.

I use the same Phillips foot pedal as for DICT8 which I got as recommended on DICT8 website, as it was cheaper than Amazon or ebay and has actually lasted me for several years, bought in 2018 from DMCL (longer than my previous 2 foot pedals).

deewu · 16/03/2022 14:45

@Gally123 thank you very helpful

Gally123 · 16/03/2022 14:50

@deewu - forgot to say if you get a pedal from DMCL check still on DICT8 website as recommended, then mention DICT8 when ordering and you may get a discount.

OP posts:
Newinmarch22 · 16/03/2022 15:23

deewu - well done on the typing test. Good luck in April, hope you get lots of clear dictation! Nothing can be as bad as DICT8 at the moment.

Whitestar55 · 16/03/2022 15:53

What's the typing test for T-PRO like? Is it based on terminology, speed, accuracy, all three?

Whitestar55 · 16/03/2022 15:53

...and is it audio or copy typing?

musicismagic333 · 16/03/2022 16:22

Joewe41 I'm sorry, I can't be of much help. the company I applied to was called WeType not TPro, but I've only ever actually worked for Dict8. The others on here will have more info.

Gally123 · 16/03/2022 16:24

@Whitestar55 my test was very simple, a short audio VR test, I think just to test that you have some general medical knowledge and also grammar etc. Speed does not come into it. I did it at the weekend and I think it was about 5 lines.
