Hello Ladies - hopefully a new thread for you... @Carosel2 @Whitestar55 @Chrissols @danblack87 @flutterby18 @wfh21 @workingfromhomenow @cherryblossom114 @Lovemydaxie @homeworkmum and anyone else I have forgotten.

@Whitestar55, yes, when I first started ALTN was enough without any explanation. In my opinion, when she who must not be named arrived that is when things changed and we were being asked to make detailed notes explaining why we couldn't hear the text and what we thought it might be, which to this day I find bizarre, along with the fact that they think it's OK for us to do this for nothing !!!!

danblack87 · 15/03/2022 11:23

HI, all Dict8'ers: How's it going for everyone? I have actually had a fair few tasks last couple of days and (bonus) they have been good in the post part.

Newinmarch22 · 15/03/2022 12:27

Good afternoon Dict8ers. I am new to this forum, have been reading all your comments and would like to join your little crew! Have been with Dict8 a couple of years and the quality of the dictation over the past couple of weeks has been driving me absolutely mad! Nice to know I am not alone! As somebody said, we should ignore the terrible tasks and perhaps those on high will realise just what we have to put up with.

musicismagic333 · 15/03/2022 12:46

I agree. There was one soon after I started with Dict8 and I noted the words I could not fathom because the dictation was so bad, and they asked why I'd chosen that task!

Gally123 · 15/03/2022 13:06

@musicismagic333 - when I first started with DICT8 I was unfamiliar with the system - I had no idea you could listen to the tasks first and reject the ones you struggled with. Like you I persisted. I did read their booklet cover to cover but I do not think guidance was that clear.

With Tpro I had an online session and then after I had a holiday for a few days and forgot some bits, they offered a repeat session to refresh my memory. I think DICT8 need to be a little more user friendly.

Hi, was looking online for reviews of Dict8 after a lot of crap days and feedback from them when found your group. I've been with them for over 10 years and really glad to find somewhere can let off steam.

Gally123 · 15/03/2022 14:04

Welcome @Newinmarch22 and @joewe41 - the more the merrier.

musicismagic333 · 15/03/2022 14:06

Hi welcome, when you're working from home it's really nice to chat with other colleagues. I don't have that with the other little job I have.

There's one particular Dict8 dictator, and as soon as I hear that voice I know I have no chance at all, I don't even know how they can speak that fast!

Newinmarch22 · 15/03/2022 14:13

Thank you for the welcomes! Nice to know we are all in the same boat. Have been sitting here since early morning and done about three letters!
Fingers crossed things will improve!

Meha5a · 15/03/2022 14:21

@musicismagic333, Yep when you choose a task and the dictation goes downhill, you carry on, 10 x notes later, and they come back at you with that nugget - why choose it ? It's a bit of a facepalm moment for a transcriber 🤣🤣

Whitestar55 · 15/03/2022 17:46

Choice lol, that word keeps coming back to haunt us doesn't it! Why choose that task? Usually because we only have a choice of 5 poorly dictated tasks anyway Shock

carosel2 · 15/03/2022 19:28

Well its nice to see new posts from different people! Its sad to hear though you too are all getting these horrible dictations. I had one that sounded as though they had dictated over one already done so there were two voices on at different speeds. It wasnt background noise or someone near dictating loud on another task. Its quite obvious some doctors dont know how to use the software. I didnt flag it up as the next 4 were dire and either too quiet and mumbling or echoing. They can sort them out themselves im not wasting my time on them anymore as we dont get paid for it. Its disgusting why no one is trying to educate them on their software. The doctor should listen back on their dictation too before sending it. To me its just laziness and sent with disregard to the poor transcriber who has many years of experience but unfortunately are not mind readers or can untangle gobledegook. Note box issue is getting worse as some are really abusing it. It states you are paid for every character typed? There is no mention that the note box is exempt.

WatermelonRed · 15/03/2022 19:39

I don’t know if the speciality I type is quite small but I’ve had barely anything all day. I then had one dictation with some people talking in the background, but it was made up for with the clearest dictator ive had so far! He was also spelling out unusual names, slowing down for complex abbreviations etc. I’ll be looking out for his clinic again next week Grin

Gally123 · 15/03/2022 19:56

@carosel2 - but we are not paid for every character typed - only for complete lines.

OP posts:
carosel2 · 15/03/2022 20:05

@Gally123 - of course, yes you're quite right, my mistake should have put line 😊

joewe41 · 15/03/2022 20:38

Thanks for the welcome. I've just had more feedback. Haven't had so much since starting. Am I dreaming or years back did they say don't type it if it isn't dictated? I didn't put the patient's name in salutation as it wasn't dictated, they didn't say it was to the patient although clearly the letter was and I was told in feedback should have said. Confused Feel like can't win at moment. Looking for other companies but problem is can only work here and there as I'm a student and have a lot of study to do in between on top of housework. You've all been there though.

Gally123 · 15/03/2022 21:08

@joewe41 - I have never put patient in salutation if it has not been dictated even if it sounds like a patient letter. We were always told to never assume something. Try applying to Tpro. They are based in Ireland but now pay in sterling. It is voice recognition now so the pay is lower but they are very nice and there is always plenty of work, evenings and weekends etc. They do like a minimum amount of work though. For me it was 150 letters a week - but some letters are only 10-14 seconds long.

OP posts:
joewe41 · 15/03/2022 22:04

@Gally123 Thanks I will have to look at that. Just asked my consultants for reference to apply to some. Hopefully hear back soon.

carosel2 · 15/03/2022 22:26

@joewe41- I know how you feel with the feedback, I've had a lot recently. They need to send new updates of their rules if they have changed. After all, a lot on here have worked years for them and are abiding by their old ones

musicismagic333 · 15/03/2022 22:28

Also, having applied to WeType about two years ago, having been told if you don't hear in 90 days you're not wanted, today I received an email to ask if I wanted to proceed with my application because they were reviewing them all. I'm not bothering because when I looked into it today it looks like you have to buy different pedals etc. Is it better the devil you know....?

Whitestar55 · 16/03/2022 01:28

We get 8p for every 65 characters, regardless of whether they are full lines don't we?

Gally123 · 16/03/2022 07:37

@Whitestar55 - 65 characters = 1 full line

@musicismagic333 - applied to WeType, did typing tests etc, just over a year ago, not only do they require different foot pedals they also require typists to have their own software and to work set times, ie mornings or afternoons or full days every week. The woman in charge there is also rather unpleasant if you are not highly computer savvy. Not surprised they are having to backtrack on applications.

OP posts:
Whitestar55 · 16/03/2022 08:28

@gally123 you've got me wondering now about the line counts, I know 65 characters equals 1 line, equals 8 pence and I was assuming they run on into the next letter and so on, but each letter's line count is calculated individually in the letter count list isn't it, so I'm wondering how and if they actually tally up any incomplete lines???

Gally123 · 16/03/2022 08:32

@Whitestar55 - if a letter contains say 70 characters we are only paid for 65. The other 5 are ignored/not paid.

OP posts:
carosel2 · 16/03/2022 09:16

@Gally123 - I thought that if we finished a letter with some over theyd count it as a full line so we dont lose out. Where does it say that in the contract? what swindlers!
