Hello Ladies - hopefully a new thread for you... @Carosel2 @Whitestar55 @Chrissols @danblack87 @flutterby18 @wfh21 @workingfromhomenow @cherryblossom114 @Lovemydaxie @homeworkmum and anyone else I have forgotten.

@Gally123 Thanks, I'll look into Tpro when I have time in between sorting out storm damage and DICT8ing. Hope your got you bathroom leak problems sorted out.

Whitestar55 · 22/02/2022 12:49

...I went a bit dyslexic there didn't I!

Whitestar55 · 22/02/2022 12:55

I'd be lost without my mobile, especially for the camera and mobile internet. What do you mean by OTP, when I Google it various meanings come up?

danblack87 · 22/02/2022 13:02

@Gally123: I'll check Lloyds - thanks.

danblack87 · 22/02/2022 13:06

@whitestar55: OTP = one time password. So when shopping on-line they send a password to your mobile so that you can check-out your groceries ... without one you can't do it. All banks are changing over to OTP to prevent fraudulent use of cards by end of March (except Lloyds, apparently).

Whitestar55 · 22/02/2022 13:35

It sounds like everyone's going to be forced to have a mobile phone soon! It could be a problem if you lose your phone too, although I can understand the need for heightened security.

carosel2 · 22/02/2022 15:58

@danblack87 - I don't mind cheque, as I can scan in to my bank now, it only takes a couple of days to clear. Although we wont have to waste time posting we will still have to wait for the cheque coming in through post wont we, anyway anything is better than nothing! Unless they are being exceptionally generous and do BACS too so the money clears immediately, oh I wish! When you think about it, it would make sense for them, as they would save surely on the amount of money they have to pay out to 5,000 transcribers etc when they have to pay for stamps, envelopes, and the paper the cheques are generated from. I am living in hope! If they did that, I might (only might mind you) just do a few more RTX to show my appreciation [laugh] [laugh]

carosel2 · 22/02/2022 16:00

...Grin Grin

danblack87 · 22/02/2022 16:01

@whitestar55: for me it is a nightmare. I either have to shop at local shops (which is more expensive) or, now, I tell my daughter I have ordered and can she let me know the OTP code (which will go to her mobile as I have used her mobile number) Sad

danblack87 · 22/02/2022 16:03

@carosel 2: Grin

danblack87 · 22/02/2022 16:06

@Carosel2: without all the stamps and envelope costs for 5000 transcriptions Dict8 would save a significant amount of money; thus allowing a pay rise!!?????

carosel2 · 22/02/2022 16:15

@danblack87 - whoooo whoooo!!! yeah!!! Grin

Gally123 · 22/02/2022 16:16

@carosel2 - DICT8 do not use stamps, they have a pre-paid franking machine (usually) which charges at a lower rate - my last envelope is franked 47p, whereas I think a stamps costs 66p. I am not sure how much banks charge businesses for BACS.

OP posts:
carosel2 · 22/02/2022 16:23

@Gally123 - it still costs them money whichever way they want to use it I am sure they would have a charge doing BACS, not sure how much but with the other things to take in account, I am hoping it would out weigh the the benefits for them as well as us, who knows

wfh21 · 22/02/2022 18:13

Still quite a lot of money per year on posting cheques + envelopes + highly paid office staff to put the cheques in the envelopes 🤣🤣.

I have no idea why DICT8 would want to hang on to such an outdated way of paying people its just weird. Hopefully they will have something set up on our individual pages that asks us for our bank account details too and all that's needed is one click our end and one click their end - how easy could that be ???

danblack87 · 23/02/2022 08:31

5000+ envelope price x 47p x admin clerk = ?????!!!!

wfh21 · 23/02/2022 09:10

@danblack87 = a pay rise 🤣🤣

danblack87 · 23/02/2022 09:12

@wfh21: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

carosel2 · 23/02/2022 09:24

It puzzles me when I get a message flashing up saying lots of work on in a particular speciality of mine when all I can see is half a dozen tasks showing?? Confused

Gally123 · 23/02/2022 09:29

@carosel2 - I seem to get that quite a bit at the moment - a message about work in a specialty but I never see any evidence of it, just tasks in other specialties.

OP posts:
carosel2 · 23/02/2022 10:49

@Gally123- yes its odd as I had five in the other one I do so that left the possibility of the one I couldn't see being the other that was supposed to be chocker block in and I was on line when the email came in so its not as though I missed it. We were told that there was going to be lots more work coming in but I only see it in abundance when its the horrible RTX letters. I keep saying it but we cant possibly see everything that comes in, in our specialties, Im pretty certain we are given just certain accounts but now Im not even getting the ones I used to type for. Im just thankful I have Tpro to fall back on, albeit, I only have one hospital there so my specialities go down pretty quickly and the others that are left, I dont really understand the terminolgy enough to attempt them 😒

Gally123 · 23/02/2022 10:56

@carosel2 - yes it is mostly the RTX letters I see, hardly any from the London hospitals (Royal Marsden, St Georges etc) and at one time lots from Swindon and also Folkestone group (although they were dabbling in VR). Yes, I spend most of my time doing Tpro, I do try different specialties sometimes as it is surprising how straightforward some can be, esp if the dictation is good. However, when I first started my med sec training in the local hospital we were moved around a variety of specialties to get a good grounding so that helps.

OP posts:
carosel2 · 23/02/2022 11:29

@Gally123 yes exactly, I hardly get any of the London hospitals now. I may have to try and type different ones on Tpro then make a note of the names if they are clear. I ended up having a go at first but was sending a lot back in the queue!

Whitestar55 · 23/02/2022 12:35

I've noticed a few new northern hospitals putting work through and the task numbers are just starting to increase again. It would be nice to have a choice of all the specialties to have a go at though. DICT8 are so restrictive, even though I'm sure a lot of us have pretty extensive experience and could attempt more. It's less boring that way too.

danblack87 · 23/02/2022 12:40

@whitestar55: I don't agree that Dict8 should give all transcriptionists ' a a go at all Specialities. It would certainly restrict the amount of work that I would see coming through in my specialties ... I do 3 more specialties in which I have a degree of expertise but, as yet, the opportunity to do so is not available as they already have enough typists to cover those specialties. I asked a couple of times but not recently. Perhaps I will send an e-mail to see if I can expand into those areas that cross-over already with mine?
