Dict 8
Anybody out there working for dict 8 seen the new video they've sent us asking us to contact them if a dictation is particularly awful then they will come back to us and ask us to do the dictation putting in notes where we cannot hear clearly. So as we don't get paid for typing notes basically they are getting us to do their dirty work with these awful dictations for nothing as they have the cheek to state some dictations may involve more notes than actual transcription !! Today my work board is clogged with them, however I'm not going to contact them and get lumped with ploughing through and working for nothing. Lets see how long this lasts. When I worked in the NHS we would deal with appalling dictation but just leaving that doctors work till last and then often returning the dictation and asking to redictate. That worked they soon learnt to dictate properly, if they are never told they will never learn. The secs obviously are just throwing us the dross.

Whitestar55 · 04/02/2022 15:15

@wfh21 I'd rather have nothing at all ever again to do with medical @*"!"!"% transcription thanks haha

user1493458352 · 04/02/2022 15:26

Just read todays posts and glad its not just me sitting here waiting for some decent dictation. Also I have had my fill of ploughing through awful dictation and posting notes in the time you could have done 3 or 4 other shorter tasks. A year ago they came up with the idea that no new tasks would be fed in until all the difficult tasks were typed well that was stupid as whoever thought that up failed to remember we only work when we want to, after a few days it all returned to normal so I,m hoping the same will happen here.

Gally123 · 04/02/2022 15:27

@user1493458352 - yep - if dictation was bad in the hospital it was returned to the doctor concerned to redo. Also, junior doctors had their dictation/letters monitored by their consultants who would inform them if their work was below standard.

I know, often consultants are the culprits with DICT8, and in one hospital I worked in we had a consultant who was sent to us from another hospital for retraining as his work was so bad no-one could understand him. If work is substandard people need to be told. And not by little notes in a box but by DICT8 who have agreed a work contract with these people.

@whitestar55: just got back from SpecSavers. Got two new pairs of glasses (distance and reading) ... hey, ho I can turn my font down from 150% down to 100% again (in two weeks) LOL. I am not doing anything else for the rest of the day ... would be impossible anyhow as I see that nothing in my Specialties has moved and I went out at 12.15 pm!!!! Still the same 5 tasks on and when I went out. Productive day I guess but not on the work front of course. Let's see what tomorrow brings Brew now,

Whitestar55 · 04/02/2022 16:02

@danblack87 Glad you got your glasses sorted out. Have you had any feedback yet about the tasks you reported to DICT8?

user1493458352 · 04/02/2022 16:10

Same here went off for lunch at 1.15 back at 2.16 same tasks attempted 1 shirt awful one and now nothings budged so calling it a day. They will lose out this way as it will all back up.

danblack87 · 04/02/2022 16:13

@whitestar55: I only reported one. Feedback was to 'try to turn up my speakers' [but couldn't do that as already at 100%] .. OR 'I could leave it, or attempt with notes as would appear that some notes wold be necessary in part' SO, I sent a message to say that I had typed the task with lots of notes and ' please check'. I had to go out after that. I'll try again tomorrow Smile.

danblack87 · 04/02/2022 16:16

I still think it is worth e-mailing info@ otherwise none of us will get anywhere - I am not giving in yet; it has just been a long day!!

Whitestar55 · 04/02/2022 16:20

@danblack87 They are teaching you to suck eggs, got to laugh haven't you.

flutterby18 · 04/02/2022 16:27

At the moment 850 people have viewed the video. I for one am getting fed up at the moment. What with the unpaid notes boxes which are getting longer and longer messages, inaudible, unfathomable dictation and now asking us to do their job for them - no, sorry but I am definitely not emailing anyone.

Good luck everyone. I think we are going to need it the way things are going with Dict8.

Gally123 · 04/02/2022 16:33

@flutterby18 - I think part of the problem is that DICT8 have probably had an influx of applications from people wanting to work at home now following return to work from COVID restrictions. So if we don't want to do the typing there are others who will (in theory).

OP posts:
danblack87 · 04/02/2022 16:36

@whitestar55: one further feedback, before calling it a day I thought I would try ANO

  • This task is not inaudible, it is very quiet, and the clinician changes his mind a lot.

With the volume up full we can hear enough for it to be typed with notes.

I can't hear a thing!!! There is nothing wrong with my speakers, so following U-tube instructions I let info@ know. I won't be typing that task though.

flutterby18 · 04/02/2022 16:43

@dabblack87 - This is why I will not be emailing - you cannot win with them. It is always the fault of the transcriber. They always have an answer for everything. The situation could be solved easily by them as someone mentioned up thread - but no everything falls to us and we are expected to do all this for a pittance.

@Gally123 - Yes, there probably are more people now working for Dict8 but it does not matter how many transcribers there are, if the dictation is bad it is bad for everyone no matter how many transcribers there are and that needs addressing by Dict8.

danblack87 · 04/02/2022 16:52

@Flutterby18: I think if the dictation was SO audible, *but admitted notes would be required, there would have been movement in my specialities for the whole 3 1/2 hours I was out AND actually that was the same case for the whole morning, Nothing has moved ... It is not my speakers or my hearing (I have an eyesight problem which has been sorted, I don't have a hearing problem; as old as I am!! -- I think the action taken should have been that the task was typed in-house?? What the heck do I know Confused. I am just following instructions.

carosel2 · 04/02/2022 16:55

@flutterby18 - I totally agree! I am certainly not emailing them with nothing because that is exactly what we are going to get sent back and if it is that easy then type the letters themselves, like I have suggested before, we need to view all letters available to our specialities not just five and any hanging around on the system because of dire dictation should be picked up by the proof readers. After all they make out they are so clever in picking the problems out so let them type them and we can type the rest. @danblack87 - I have had same with quietness, it is impossible to hear some of these tasks, they must have special equipment to listen to them that's all I can say because there is no way some of the letters can be heard. They need to pick up the phone and ring the clients and tell them how to use the bloody software properly if they want decent results from the transcriber

user1493458352 · 05/02/2022 09:36

A few weeks ago before the video was sent I did email them about a task that was sooo quiet they came back and said to put a note saying not safe to transcribe, why can’t they deliver that message. They are so stupid as I had gone out for a few hours after emailing so wasn’t able to do this, when I looked later the task had been removed, so for this reason I’m avoiding getting involved in this informing them lark. As I said before they tried this about a year ago saying unless the longest tasks on the system were cleared first which were the worst no new work would be generated, soo stupid as they will end up with a backlog, lasted a few days and we were back to normal. To top it all today I did a task where this doctors toddler was screaming obviously on her lap all the way through!! I mean that is so inconsiderate 🤷‍♀️It’s nice to have others to sound off to about all this.

wfh21 · 05/02/2022 11:52

Agree with all the above. Send back 45 second task, wait for somebody at DICT8 to listen to 45 second task, send task back with ok for notes, type said 45 second task with notes (not paid for) ????????? So a 45 second task becomes a 1 hour job ? really ??? What wonder brain thought this up ? Maybe the proof reader needs this incorporated into their job description or perhaps they employ a few transcribers to do note box typing (with pay) for the crap dictation.

As for suggesting turning the volume up if quiet what about the background noise ? that becomes even louder and no company should advise turning volume up it is not acceptable. I keep my volume at a safe level and will not go over that.

Perhaps the owners of this company should take a long hard look at some of the people they have employed as sadly things are deteriorating by the week. Put a video up advising contacting them only to be belittled with replies such as - put the volume up, leave if you are "unable", send it to us so we can listen in order to send it back to you for typing for free - REALLY !!!!

Gally123 · 05/02/2022 14:15

I am having a disaster today - just waiting for emergency plumber - leak in the bathroom, under the floor, floor needs taking up, pipes replacing, is going to cost a bit.......

OP posts:
Whitestar55 · 06/02/2022 12:21

@Gally123 Hope you've got your leak fixed. Water can do so much damage can't it, I had to have my roof fixed and chimney pointed last year due to rain water leaking in.

Gally123 · 06/02/2022 12:47

@Whitestar55 - no, not fixed yet, as they need to drill through the concrete floor to the pipes, hopefully tomorrow. The previous people put down laminate flooring and we took that up yesterday and it all seemed to dry out overnight, and now I have water back again.

OP posts:
danblack87 · 07/02/2022 11:05

@Gally123: Gosh what a nightmare. Hope it gets fixed for you today

Gally123 · 07/02/2022 11:10

@danblack87 - rather stressful, just waiting for a phone call to let me know when they will be back. Presumably had other people booked for work today as well to deal with. At the moment things look okay but did yesterday morning until water appeared around lunchtime.

Just trying to do a little bit of typing as I know once I have workmen drilling etc I will not be able to do any, but I am finding it hard to concentrate.

OP posts:
danblack87 · 07/02/2022 11:16

@Gally123: I am sure you will be finding it difficult today ... don't forget to turn the volume up to 100% LOL

danblack87 · 07/02/2022 11:18

My brain is on slow mo today ... just found out my bessie m8 hung himself at weekend. I want to know when the joys of 2022 are really going to get moving.
