Is it just me or is it really warm at the moment for the time of year it is?

I’ve had to get the fan in from the garage!

Sorry it’s a boring weather post

OP posts:
PinkSyCo · 31/12/2021 00:07

Yep I’ve not had the heating on at all over Christmas and yesterday evening had to keep popping outside for air!

justasking111 · 31/12/2021 00:09

Just been outside with the dog warm breeze. OH has a fancy weather station so checked the temperature

15.2c at midnight !!!

FAQs · 31/12/2021 00:42

According to my phone it's currently 14 degrees and I've got my bedroom window open, although unless it's freezing it's open all year.

BeagleBum2001 · 31/12/2021 01:01

13 degrees in Sheffield right now.

0palescent · 31/12/2021 01:04

10 degrees right now (1am) in the central belt, Scotland. WTF?! I have the window open. Heavy rain forecast too, so it'll feel warmer Xmas Confused

OhWhyNot · 31/12/2021 01:46

Its very mild

I prefer it colder this time of year I like having seasons

I’m glad it shall be colder next week

offtothebeach · 31/12/2021 02:31

@Cocoabutterformula

London is so warm today! Everyone walking around with coats off. Really lovely spring vibes

Doesn't that scare the hell out of you though? It shouldn't be like this in December, I feel so scared about climate change, people making glib comments about how lovely it is just do my head in. What if we've reached the tipping point already? Where do we go from here?

I don't need to feel terrified to do my bit ( vegan and electric car owner) . I prefer to do my bit but also enjoy a lovely mild day. I think people are whipping themselves into early graves through anxiety and stress over it all.
GrandTheftWalrus · 31/12/2021 02:45

I'm central Scotland and at 2.45am it's 11 degrees. That is very worrying.

Climate change is doing it for us, which is the point.

The fact is that going around saying how lovely the weather is in this case is like saying "isn't the end of the world fantastic?!".

Missey85 · 31/12/2021 05:44

Its 38° here in Australia now that's hot! I think I'm going to melt ☺

RampantIvy · 31/12/2021 06:33

I don't understand why people's houses are so hot. Don't you have thermostats? If it is too warm our heating doesn't come on.

No, I don't have a thermostat and I was hot outside/in the supermarket too. Granted I could have removed my coat but it wasn't that hot so it was a choice between too hot or too cold.

We have storage heaters and no thermostat. They heat up overnight.
Chasingaftermidnight · 31/12/2021 08:02

It’s crazy - I had to put our 4 tog summer duvet on because we were sweating like pigs under the winter 10 tog.

Nosnowthisyear · 31/12/2021 08:44

My house is hot at the moment without the heating on. That’s the point!

RampantIvy · 31/12/2021 08:50

It's currently 13 degrees outside, and our heating isn't eunning, so outr house is comfortable, neither hot or cold.

Storage heaters are the pits aren't they @Sunshineandrainbow. We had some on holiday one year. By the time I had worked out how to switch them on when it was cold and wet we suddenly had a heatwave, and our rental apartment went from cold to boiling hot. They really are one of the most inefficient ways to heat a home.

Totally agree. Especially after recently watching Don't Look Up. Sounds exactly like the ignorance in that.
offtothebeach · 31/12/2021 09:16

It's not ignorance, I just refuse to live my life worrying over something I don't personally have much control over. I quietly do my bit for the planet and then carry on and enjoy mild days. I don't feel the need to engage in the competition of who is more outraged/terrified/aware. You give up steak and kit kats and then come back and tell me who wins your competition.

coogee · 31/12/2021 09:33

Wasn’t it this warm, or warmer, back in 1901 or sometime?

So, not without precedent.

Well done you, doing 'your bit' Hmm

Have you watched The Trick? It's about climate change - the main scientist mentions climate collapse - how anyone can go around thinking this weather is lovely is utterly beyond me. It's honestly terrifying how warm it is and if you're not very worried then you really don't understand how serious it is.

lissie123 · 31/12/2021 10:24

@TheVolturi I agree. The way people are responding on this thread is exactly how it played out in the film Don’t Look Up. And look how that ended.

etulosba · 31/12/2021 10:32

Are you really full of terror? How do you manage day to day?

Magnited · 31/12/2021 11:07

I have left my freezer door open all night to help cool the planet down.

PlanetNormal · 31/12/2021 11:12

People are odd. Do they not watch the weather forecast or do they not understand it?

I was out walking yesterday afternoon wearing a t shirt and a thin fleece and I was warm, yet almost everyone I saw was dressed for a polar expedition when the temperature here was 14c and it felt like mid-October. Crazy!
