Is it just me or is it really warm at the moment for the time of year it is?

I’ve had to get the fan in from the garage!

Sorry it’s a boring weather post

As others have said, climate change is real and here. Its frightening.

There was a comment about being dead in 20 years, but honestly, going by current projections, I am not planning anything past 2040.

chrisevans · 30/12/2021 22:54

It's like the world is warming up. 
It's not like the world is warming up. It actually is.

My awful attempt at sarcasm clearly did not filter through there.

Agree not a joking matter, but if we're getting deep, we have to be led from the top / governments and it just doesn't appear to be taken seriously

CombatBarbie · 30/12/2021 22:55

My spring bulbs are popping through....

Beansprout30 · 30/12/2021 22:58

Yes the seasons are all over the place, I still had my heating on at the end of May this year but I don’t have it on tonight. Saw a butterfly earlier and was about 14 degrees this afternoon in the SW

liveforsummer · 30/12/2021 22:58

I went put earlier to Tesco in my big new puffer coat. Too late i discovered it's actually the temperature of your average Scottish summers day. I was swearing walking road the supermarket and worried people would assume I had a covid fever 😆. I'm rarely too hot either

liveforsummer · 30/12/2021 22:59

@SirChenjins

It’s not freezing, but I’m certainly not warm! The joys of living in Edinburgh.
I'm in Edinburgh- went out 3 hours ago and was sweating in my winter coat (see post above) car was reading 15c that's practically summer here
FuckeryIsAfoot · 30/12/2021 23:05

@lightisnotwhite

It's not down to you but it seems massively tone deaf to say how you love it.

Not sure how the year you were born is relevant. Like you're somehow less guilty than someone born in the 90s. You aren't

lissie123 · 30/12/2021 23:08

Has anyone seen the new film Don’t Look Up? It’s a great star studded film which is supposed to be an allegory for the climate crisis. It’s worthwhile watching.

The heat is coming from the western Sahara region but in 5 days it will be coming from Iceland.

Theballoonsinthesky · 30/12/2021 23:11

@chrisevans the sarcasm was obvious to everyone else!

Cosmois · 30/12/2021 23:14

I am in Kent and it is so hot inside my house I am sat by the fan!

Abracadabra12345 · 30/12/2021 23:14

@FuckeryIsAfoot

I love it. Hate tons of layers, being cold and defrosting the car

See, I have an issue with this. The fact it's 12 to 15 c around the country in December is horrific. It shows us how royally fucked we are and then we have people saying how much they love it Confused I'm terrified, but you know, people don't need to defrost the car so..

I agree. A friend was posting on social media saying how lovely the weather was, like spring. It’s the end of December, it’s not “lovely , it’s bloody terrifying that it’s like spring. In fact I dread to think how hot spring will be. And it’s happening so fast!

It was 16 degrees today. 16!!

“tone deaf” ? You hear what you want to hear.

Oh course some people are more or less guilty of potentially damaging behaviours than others.

Yebbie · 30/12/2021 23:17

@WhoAre

Global warming. We will all be dead in twenty years.
This made me panic and I googled for reassurance and I'm not reassured.

I'm pregnant. How the fuck is it right to bring more kids into this world? I literally feel terrified now.

lissie123 · 30/12/2021 23:18

We are sleepwalking into a global climate crisis.

garlictwist · 30/12/2021 23:20

It's weird. The last two New Years have been bitterly cold and icy where I live (Yorkshire). This year it's been 13 degrees! I have to say I prefer it.

offtothebeach · 30/12/2021 23:21

London is so warm today! Everyone walking around with coats off. Really lovely spring vibes

User0658 · 30/12/2021 23:26

So happy to read this after sweating the last 2/3 days. I thought I was coming down with something. I even did a covid test this morning Blush. I've just turned the heating off timer for tomorrow now

Cocoabutterformula · 30/12/2021 23:28

Doesn't that scare the hell out of you though? It shouldn't be like this in December, I feel so scared about climate change, people making glib comments about how lovely it is just do my head in. What if we've reached the tipping point already? Where do we go from here?

BootsScootsAndToots · 30/12/2021 23:29

I thought this was a thread for Australia! It's 37 degrees today, personally love a hot NYE but then it is summer here so meant to be warm

Although we've had a pretty average summer up until now. Weeks of below 16 degrees which is basically our winter temp.

elbea · 30/12/2021 23:36

It explained it on the news yesterday, the winds are bringing air from the Azores due to position of the jet stream and pressure near Ireland.

KiloWhat · 30/12/2021 23:41

No way!

Really?

I'm cold!

deadlanguage · 30/12/2021 23:49

Yep - was absolutely melting in John Lewis when I went in today, I almost asked them if their heating was broken!

Brabraboo · 30/12/2021 23:51

I thought it was the breastfeeding! I am absolutely boiling 24/7

greenalltheway · 31/12/2021 00:07

Ive been 'complaining' about the unreasonable heat for December for weeks. It was 16.5 when I was out in car the other day. I'm too hot with my winter quilt on.

I leave the house with my fancy scarf and then bake to death at the overdressing.

Forecast for next week is for two days the low will be 2 but most days between 11 and 15.

I remember as a kid that we'd get heavy frosts towards end of September/early October and the worst winter weather December and January.

It's been coming quite a while, a few years ago my son and I would take a short breaks away for end October half term and two years in a row we were coatless on the beach on east coast!

It's quite scary the change in Temps my lifetime tbh.
