Eating our 10-a-day thread (2)

Breathmiller · 28/12/2021 22:51

Hi all

This is our second thread about upping our veg and fruit intake on a daily basis.

We tend to list what we've had to keep us accoubtable and generally chat about how to increase the rainbow on our plate.

We don't always make 10 but anything more than you would normally is great. I like to at least get 5. 10 or even sometimes more is a great day.

All welcome whatever reasons.

@Breathmiller I forgot about baked beans too! Awesome news.

Today I had

  1. Banana
  2. Apple juice
  3. Tomatoes
  4. Raspberries
5, 6 and 7. Two wraps of veggie fajita mix - yellow and orange peppers, mushroom, onions, kidney beans with sliced avocado.

A bit heavy on the fruit but not bad going I don’t think.

TheAntiGardener · 04/01/2022 23:04

Does banana blossom count? Had a vegan fish and chips as a back to work treat tonight. There seemed to be plenty of blossom, but also an awful lot of batter...

hivemindneeded · 04/01/2022 23:15

Today:
1.) Blueberries
2.) Carrot juice
3.) banana
4.) Tangerine
5.) fennel with red onion
6.) Cucumber
7) tomatoes
8) Mixed leaves - rocket, iceberg, purple endive and romaine hearts
9) an apricot and a mince pie might count as a portion of dried fruit?
10) Do walnuts count? (clutching at straws here Grin )

hivemindneeded · 04/01/2022 23:16

Oh forgot - sweet potato wedges. That's 10 - just.

anotherchocolate · 04/01/2022 23:55

Tomatoes
Red onions
Jalapeños
Peppers
Mushroom

I would think it counted. Might not be a whole portion but some.

Was it good? I really wish I could find it somewhere gluten free. I do have a tin and could make my own but it would be nice to go out and get it somewhere too.

  1. Grapefruit

Nuts are good for you but not in the “5 a day” unfortunately. But I have been counting mincemeat and dried apricots (a dried fruit portion is 30g).

I don't see why not? I just counted how many apples went into mine when I made it and used it as a guide whether it was a portion or not

I think I should join this thread! I'm eating tonnes more since starting WW, and the new plan adds points for non starchy veg which helps, but I think I get stuck in a rut.

Today:
Banana
Apple
Radishes
Red cabbage
Yellow & purple carrots
Pickled beetroot & gherkin
Tomato
Red and yellow pepper
Mange tout
Edamame
Broccoli

Do pickled veg count?

There were spring onions, a couple of raspberries and some courgette as well but I'm only counting small handfuls as a minimum portion. Some of those were both lunch (fish fingers and salad) and dinner (hoisin chicken stir fry).

MaybeHeIsMyCat · 05/01/2022 20:44

No idea how to count this!

Lunch was a pasta bake with (1 portion total?)
Tomatoes
Onions
Sweetcorn

Banana
Mango

Chicken salad with
Tomatoes
Gherkins Smile
Salad leaves
Beetroot

Didn't do very well today but you're all my motivation 😊

Brown Lentils
Carrots X 2 (does that count as 1 or 2?)
Jackfruit
Red lentils
Spinach

OH did the food shop this week and lo and behind we've run out of fruit already- will pop out to get some tomorrow.

Breathmiller · 05/01/2022 21:51

Welcome MrsFLongbottom

The carrots count as 1 I'm afraid. Doesn't matter if you have more of one thing it still counts as one.

That's a good haul though.

Mine today is...

  1. Mushrooms
  2. Spinach
  3. Beans
  4. Orange pepper
  5. Apple and ginger juice
  6. Mixed forest fruits

We had a chippy tea, delicious but not a veg in sight I'm afraid. So i had a yoghurt with fruit for dessert just to get something in.
