Eating our 10-a-day thread (2)

Breathmiller · 28/12/2021 22:51

Hi all

This is our second thread about upping our veg and fruit intake on a daily basis.

We tend to list what we've had to keep us accoubtable and generally chat about how to increase the rainbow on our plate.

We don't always make 10 but anything more than you would normally is great. I like to at least get 5. 10 or even sometimes more is a great day.

All welcome whatever reasons.

Mind if I join the 2022 thread @Breathmiller? I think I started with you last year but fell off because I was moving.

Breathmiller · 01/01/2022 09:53

Of course. Welcome back jingsmahbucket (great name)

Welcome anotherchocolate

I am exhausted today but determined not to fall into a well of unhealthy food to compensate.

This is the NHS guide on what counts and portion sizes.

Some people were doing the 80g a portion. Some were doing it by counting the fruit and veg themselves. But once you get used to it you get used to what is a portion.

Only one of your count can be juice regardless of how much you have. And i think we decided that whizzed soup was the same.

We also made the executive decision last thread that as we were doing 10 a day that 2 portions of lentils/chickpeas were allowed.

And I think it's 2 out of 5 is fruit for 5 a day so maybe 4 out of 10 cam be fruit?

Oh, and Christmas pudding definitely counts 🤣

Who knows? We may have made some up.
In truth, you can do what you like. The main aim is to get more veg and fruit in our diet.

Thanks @Breathmiller, good to be back. I’m in the US right so it’s still morning for me. I’m just going to drop what I’m planning to cook today and will return later with actuals.

Vegetable and beef stir fry
Minestrone soup
Black bean soup

Breathmiller · 01/01/2022 15:14

Today (I'm just listing the veg, it's not a weird diet!)

Avocado
Tomato
Onion
Carrot
Celery
Melon
Orange juice

That looks delicious.

Yes, i usually just lost my veg and fruit. It's not usually the only food I have had in a day.

I make a list on my notes in my phone as I go about my day and just copy and paste.

Meant to link to this youtube earlier
She does day to day vlogs but always with loads of food in, and I'm fascinated by them! It's amazing to see how many fruits and veg she eats, even at breakfast and it just seems to be the norm in Japan that she takes so much care in her food even just cooking alone

hivemindneeded · 02/01/2022 13:29

So far today:

100g frozen blueberries
Tangerine
Left-over veggie tagine: peppers, red onion, tomato, chickpeas, carrots, celeriac and celery with left over crispy kale. About 3 portions of veg in total I think.

Tonight will be aubergine and lentil ragu with salad.
