Around here it's the cross breeds like cockapoos or cavachons or else cocker spaniels that the mc/uc own.. Maybe it's just our part of London?
@Londonlassie12 love the idea of Barbours and Hunter wellies in London Grin

No person actually living in the country wears Hunters (cheap Chines made as they are now, they won’t stand up to real mud and wear and tear)

Barbour is also a bit fake-country imo Grin

They probably drive land rovers too (for all those off road tracks in London Wink)
I live in the country and nearly every actual farmer I see is wearing a barbour!

To be really posh it’s got to be a working black lab couple with one or more JRTs

Hodl · 02/12/2021 01:07

We have an OES, neighbours have 3 JRTs (wire haired.) The vicar who lives a few doors away has a black lab. The family opposite us have 2 French bulldogs.

I always thought gun dogs were for the truly posh, and working breeds.

Loving all the gorgeous doggo pictures!

I think labs became too commonplace to be truly posh - I’d put them in the same category as Barbour, Hunter wellies and Land-rovers.

@Rollingwiththehomies over here it’s more non-branded stuff Grin

Or parkas that look 20 yrs old

Only know 3 farmer families though

I have two big, scruffy, smelly lurchers. One is also a rescue. If they are posh dogs then they have certainly lowered themselves to live with us!

GSP here. Working gun dog. Regularly stopped to be questioned about his lineage. Comes from excellent stock.

Whilst all the mixed breed dogs are lovely I do worry about some of their breeding. I am seeing dogs bred badly and with many underlying health issues. We met a pugpoo the other day which was struggling to breath and move. :(

I live in NE Italy close to the Slovenian border and there are “cagnari” (dog dealers) who can set you up with any breed you like for peanuts.

No shots, no papers or fake ones and puppies as young as 8 weeks making 12 hour journeys in their own filth. I know a Labrador (jaw problems), bichon (completely misshapen), Jack Russell (far too young), dachshund (sold as mini, grew up to be a 2-foot crocodile) and a half deaf albino Pitt Bull Amstaff cross.
It’s disgusting but if you can get a posh or a bully breed for €200 people are not going to pay breeder prices. They don’t have a pedigree but that’s not going to stop people breeding from them.

I have a pedigree mini Schnauzer from a reputable breeder. Thanks (maybe?) for calling him posh. The designer Schnauzer colour combo is black and silver but mine’s just a common-or-garden pepper and salt.

Home stripped and clipped after the groomer cancelled our appointment… Ralph’s beard looks better now.
Please note the posh Hamley’s teddy bear.

My parents had the poshest, snooty dog ever.

He was a Hienz 57 from the RSPCA, he'd obviously been misplaced by the Royal Family.

He looked down his nose at most people, if he really didn't like you he take himself off to the dining room and face the wall.

His go too position was sitting at the end of the drive with a very superior look on his face.

If he was bored he'd take himself to the pub, a good three miles away and we would get a phone call to collect him.

Oh I’m pretty sure the Barbours are ancient 😂

GertrudeKerfuffle · 02/12/2021 11:09

Changed my mind - it's Borzois:

www.themoscowtimes.com/2015/07/29/qa-with-a-borzoi-dog-breeder-a48627

A quote from the breeder in the article:

"I choose my owners carefully. They must be not only rich, but also highly educated people. Because to breed, hunt and take care of dogs, you need an education and a wide range of interests."

Londonlassie12 · 02/12/2021 22:02

@GertrudeKerfuffle I agree it must be the borzoi😁😁
My Russian neighbours have a pair of minature schnauzers, lovely family, they fit the bill of cultured, very well travelled & the children are very talented musicians... I assume they would pass the "borzoi test", space might be an issue though!

Well if scruffy terriers are posh then we definitely qualify!
