Around here it's the cross breeds like cockapoos or cavachons or else cocker spaniels that the mc/uc own.. Maybe it's just our part of London?

Our Husky gets lots of attention..
Sadly she is all fur coat and no knickers.

MarleneDietrichsSmile · 30/11/2021 15:26

@Mydogisagentleman is that a Beddie?

Fun clever (crazy) buggers Grin

I have a lurcher (greyhound/whippet/Beddie)

And a deerhound

Not sure they are class signifiers, just the type of dogs we like and that suit our lifestyle (countryside muddy walks)

Londonlassie12 · 30/11/2021 15:27

Forgot to say lots of minature schnauzers around here, posh part of London, usually kept in pairs. Gorgeous to look at but the ones we know are very barky

Well pugs were bred for the laps of Chinese emperors so surely they are posh? image deleted by MNHQ at OP's request

I have Bedlington terrier X working cocker spaniel, so a bit like a cockerpoo and a bit like a lurcher. According to this thread that would make him a posh dog. He came from a council house in Walsall.

Hahahhahahahahah

AppleBottomedJeans · 30/11/2021 15:32

I'll need to report my husband for being also vair posh!!!

CovidPassQuestion · 30/11/2021 15:36

Aw, he's lovely @AppleBottomedJeans ! I wouldn't call him a dog though Grin

CovidPassQuestion · 30/11/2021 15:38

@Mydogisagentleman Your dog looks uncannily like Sweep! He's so sweet.

Gingersay · 30/11/2021 15:40

I have a manky hyper Springer Spaniel, posh folk always offer buy him off us or ask us if he's available for stud. It's only been posh folk weirdly.

SleepWoof · 30/11/2021 15:41

Santaischeckinglists- your dog is proper old money posh!

TheDogsMother · 30/11/2021 15:42

Prince Charles and Boris Johnson both have Jack Russells.

CovidPassQuestion · 30/11/2021 15:49

I live in a naice area that is sort of a conservation area, and the housing is quite controlled. Consequently, housing is rather expensive, and people tend to be a little more flashy with their money and it's wall-to-wall cockerpoos, cavapoos, and labradoodles. The more well-to-do residents have hounds- lurchers, Irish wolfhounds, salukis, (Italian) greyhounds, whippets, bassets etc. and I've seen a few Weimaraners around. Not many lapdog types here, though I've seen someone pushing theirs in a dog buggy once!

Thymeout · 30/11/2021 16:17

I think Dilyn is Carrie's dog. And Boris isn't that posh.

SoupDragon · 30/11/2021 16:23

Don't you think Boris is rather like an unkempt Afghan hound?

On an unrelated note, I think they came out top of the list of Thickest Dogs once.

Orarewedancer · 30/11/2021 16:29

I'm a vet, worked in a variety of locations. Definitely think working dogs e.g. working labs, springers are owned by the poshest. Also Newfoundlands and deerhounds (usually owned by those with a lot of land!).

Cockapoos, frenchies and doodle varieties cost a buck but certainly not for the posh!

Vursayles · 30/11/2021 16:34

Absolute poshest of the posh ie true blue-blooded upper class folk invariably have:

  • Working cockers
  • Springers
  • Black labs (yellow at a push, NEVER chocolate)
-GSP’s

Other gun dogs are permissible but rarely seen.

Personally I’m a bit sad that Clumber spaniels aren’t more popular with the landed gentry, they always look very serene. Die a come back I think.

Vicliz24 · 30/11/2021 16:36

My whippet knows he's the poshest of the posh Grin

Borzoi's are beauts! Lots of lovely dogs on this thread. We've got an Italian greyhound mix, she absolutely does not think she's fancy and looks like a little scrap most of the time, she's also balding a bit (genetic) so I think she's going to look even scrappier soon!

RestingStitchFace · 30/11/2021 16:41

I agree - all the posh lot near me have field-dogs - labs, spaniels, setters and JR's generally. It's all green wellies, Barbour jackets and muddy dogs.

SamMil · 30/11/2021 16:43

The most upper class person I know owned a whippet and some sort of terrier.

longwayoff · 30/11/2021 16:49

Lovely Bedlington, don't see many of those. My dog is a thug. Small but a thug. He's definitely lower class and would sneak out to get a tattoo and a packet of fags if he could.

ChiefAdjusterOfRubensShorts · 30/11/2021 16:49

We have a JRT/Patterdale Terrier cross but we couldn’t be less posh if we tried!

The dog on the other hand seems to think she’s descended from Royalty!

EmpressSuiko · 30/11/2021 16:55

I’m far from posh but we have a gorgeous lab!.

Londonlassie12 · 30/11/2021 17:53

In our part of London the school gate look is barbour, dubarry boots or hunter wellies, oversized knits with a cockapoo or cavachon in tow... Our school gate is like a "poo type" dog convention every morning 😁
