Around here it's the cross breeds like cockapoos or cavachons or else cocker spaniels that the mc/uc own.. Maybe it's just our part of London?

@Santaischeckinglists

Surely anything with the word cock in is common?? Grin
😂
BlueSkyeThinker · 30/11/2021 11:19

Posh dogs out here in the sticks are either 'working' black labs and spaniels that pick up on shoots, a scruffy house terrier descended from a long line of scruffy house terriers, and/or a rescue dog, often a greyhound or another scruffy terrier. In the mix there's often a couple of waifs and strays rehomed from friends who couldn't cope with a hooligan puppy, or failed fosters for a friend who works for the local dog rescue, on the basis that 'one more doesn't make much of a difference' when the Aga-facing Orvis dog basket is already the size of a Mini.

I've got a working class Chihuahua who thinks he's Upper

I have a greyhound. Ex racer. Didn't realise I was posh.

Footprintsinthegrass · 30/11/2021 11:29

Definitely gun dogs. Labs, springer spaniels and German pointers

GertrudeKerfuffle · 30/11/2021 11:30

I own a whippet and I am not even slightly posh. Dragging the breed down, I am Grin We get whippets due to allergy reasons (as in they don't cause any).

I would agree that really posh people have gun dogs.

Londonlassie12 · 30/11/2021 12:19

I guess it all depends on the area, neighbours have 3 cocker spaniels but they head to their country pile every weekend & always bring the dog so I guess the dogs aren't lacking, plenty of parks nearby & a little garden

Last week, I was sent to collect something from a house and when I arrived at the front door, was told to go round to the tradesmen's entrance Grin. They had standard long-haired dachshunds.

loadofcrap10 · 30/11/2021 13:02

I'm posh and have a staffy

gogohm · 30/11/2021 13:05

Depends where you live, around here it's farming country so lots of collies, rarely on leads and impeccably behaved. Seem to be popular even on non sheep farms

Nearthelooplease · 30/11/2021 13:12

I don’t know any upper middle class or ‘posh’ people who would have one of the ‘designer’* crossbreeds. I actually don’t know that many lab owners who fall into that category either. Lots of spaniels (cocker and springer), Jack Russells and whippet type dogs. A good number of goodness-knows-what rescue dogs too, which is excellent Smile

  • I apologise if that sounds really obnoxious. I’m sure people realise what I mean!

Love this thread- thank you OP and contributors!
I have a scruffy pup- whilst secretly thinking he is terribly posh.
He is a border terrier- breed was originally bred by the aristocrats in Northumberland so if that is not posh I dont know what is!

Londonlassie12 · 30/11/2021 13:57

@covilha you have to share a pic!

@londonlassie12 - let me see if I can work out how to do that. Love your username btw- perfect for this thread

Avelina · 30/11/2021 14:20

I have a working Lab x Springer so does that make me extra posh?Grin

leavingtime · 30/11/2021 14:26

Borzoi's surely. They are so regal/dignified.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 30/11/2021 14:27

@HeidiHaus

Surely an Afghan hound is the poshest of posh dogs?
I came to say the exact same!
Shannith · 30/11/2021 14:42

I live in semi rural posh. Gun dogs, JRT, greyhound, lurcher. Actual poodles. Setters.

Anything poo is the complete opposite of posh. Also not a breed Wink

Shannith · 30/11/2021 14:43

Oh and I've got a black lab. Natch.

LadyCatStark · 30/11/2021 14:48

It definitely depends on your area. I live rurally and you may choose from a lab (black), any type of spaniel bit preferably a springer or a boarder collie. If you’re old, you may be allowed a westie.

Mydogisagentleman · 30/11/2021 14:48

We were told in all seriousness that our dog was a desirable breed by our local Lord while we walked across his land.
He is a twat, but our dog is desirable

hennaoj · 30/11/2021 15:00

Pembroke Corgi's have to be the poshest!

Londonlassie12 · 30/11/2021 15:00

Omg, he's fab! Breed please! Is it an airdale terrier?

OP posts:
Panicmode1 · 30/11/2021 15:04

I was stopped in Sevenoaks by someone with the MOST RP accent I've heard in many a long year saying how wonderful it was to see a proper breed of proper dog.....we have a golden retriever. I don't think they are remotely 'posh'.

The smartest people I know have JRTs, labs, and spaniels - most of which are working gun dogs.

Who cares Grin - everyone's dog is a prince/ss to their owner Wink.

DrWhoNowww · 30/11/2021 15:14

Like a PP, round here if you can put Large, Working or Gun dog in front of it then it’s posh.

Anything that’s has a made up name that’s a contraction of two other breed (labradoodle, cavapoo) decidedly NOT posh as it’s a bit try hard - the poshest person I know owns the scruffiest, stinkiest mongrel ever but I think that ties in to a general air of “I’m too posh to be judged about anything (including the breed of dogs I own)
