Around here it's the cross breeds like cockapoos or cavachons or else cocker spaniels that the mc/uc own.. Maybe it's just our part of London?

Well, hello there!

OwnedByIrishWolfhounds · 30/11/2021 19:48

But I agree, it's mainly the gun dog breeds, terriers like JRs, whippets, and rescue dogs like retired greyhounds or Bitzers/Heinz 57s.

@Londonlassie12 love the idea of Barbours and Hunter wellies in London Grin

No person actually living in the country wears Hunters (cheap Chines made as they are now, they won’t stand up to real mud and wear and tear)

Barbour is also a bit fake-country imo Grin

They probably drive land rovers too (for all those off road tracks in London Wink)

@StillSmallVoice

I have a greyhound. Ex racer. Didn't realise I was posh.
So do I and neither did I! She must be the only posh thing I've got then!
ivfbabymomma1 · 30/11/2021 21:57

My chihuahua thinks she's upper class (she isn't) 😂

ivfbabymomma1 · 30/11/2021 22:03

Yes the Chelsea tractors are there in full force on the rainy mornings with the token cockapoo or cavachon looking out the car window😁

My dear, I think you are confusing class with money. Those cross breeds are mongrels favoured by the nouveau riche.

Inmypjsagain · 30/11/2021 23:07

@Londonlassie12

Forgot to say lots of minature schnauzers around here, posh part of London, usually kept in pairs. Gorgeous to look at but the ones we know are very barky
Are you in Chiswick?

I’m not sure what dogs are posh, I know a very posh lady with a poodle…

LightDrizzle · 30/11/2021 23:10

Black labs, JRTs, springers, Irish Wolfhounds, Deerhounds, Bull Terriers, rescues.

Babyroobs · 30/11/2021 23:15

@ComtesseDeSpair

There is a devastatingly posh lady who I see (and have occasionally spoken to)sometimes when I’m running in the park of the much nicer neighbouring neighbourhood to mine, walking two impeccably groomed and silky Afghan Hounds. Her hairstyle and the way she carries herself matches theirs.
We have golden retriever lady in our village. Owner looks like a Golden retriever with long golden hair sort of flicked up. She has her curtains open and the front room is full of Golden retriever portraits.

Can I just say I really enjoyed this thread! Cheered me up actually Smile
More doggo insights and pics please!

Twilight7777 · 30/11/2021 23:25

I have a toy poodle, my grandparents had poodles and I’ve always admired the breed. She is constantly mistaken for a cockapoo as she doesn’t have the traditional lamb cut that a lot of poodles have. She’s too clever for words, but she’s also very demanding, expects the attention and expects it now! When lockdown was happening she didn’t manage to meet many of ‘her public’ as I call other dog walkers, and so she used to run off to anyone that would say hi to her if she had even a second chance, I had to keep her on a lead from the car to the house because of it!

Champagneforeveryone · 01/12/2021 02:04

@Handsnotwands

i live in a v posh place (not posh myself) and it's strictly gun dogs and jack russells for the gentry. the scruffier and smellier the better
This is it where we live too.

We have a working cocker but have sullied our middle classness by also owning a staffie GrinWink

DutifulDaughterWifeMother · 01/12/2021 02:23

I have a Blue Shar Pei, does he fall into the posh category??

NightReader · 01/12/2021 03:49

Around where we live most people have poos and labs and they all seem very similar in class terms. We have a whippet and I sometime walk with a friend who has a poo - people often stop us to say hello to our dogs, no one ever wants to say hello to the two dogs, they are always either poo or whippet lovers never both!

momager1 · 01/12/2021 03:57

my very posh (lmao...she is soooo not posh) standard poodle...and her 14 week old son ...ALSO very far from posh...just our monster pets... May I present...Gracie and her crazy kid Oliver

momager1 · 01/12/2021 04:00

oliver is the cream...the little black and white is our next door neighbors dog... that is Nigel..he is a mini bernadoodle. Mine are both just plain old standard poodles

SnoopsCaliforniaRoll · 01/12/2021 04:03

@Vursayles

Absolute poshest of the posh ie true blue-blooded upper class folk invariably have:
  • Working cockers
  • Springers
  • Black labs (yellow at a push, NEVER chocolate)
-GSP’s

Other gun dogs are permissible but rarely seen.

Personally I’m a bit sad that Clumber spaniels aren’t more popular with the landed gentry, they always look very serene. Die a come back I think.

Clumber spaniels are my dream dog! I would love to have one of my own one day (though I am not holding out much hope as neither DH nor I have had a dog before, so I doubt that a breeder would let us have one as inexperienced owners).
LadyLolaRuben · 01/12/2021 05:25

As a previous OP has said, westies I think are posh.

Londonlassie12 · 01/12/2021 09:25

I love westie! I read princess eugenie & beatrice share 4 border terriers so that must be a posh breed... The middletons breed cocker spaniels so they must be posh too!

OP posts:
Londonlassie12 · 01/12/2021 09:27

Sorry eugenie & beatrice have Norfolk terriers not border ones

OP posts:
lastqueenofscotland · 01/12/2021 09:40

The less common gun dogs - setters, pointers, NSDTRs, that sort of thing

Londonlassie12 · 01/12/2021 09:53

My bichon frieses haven't been mentioned yet but they think they're posh 😁

The6thQueen · 01/12/2021 10:01

My girl is definitely the queen of posh (um…)
