How long have you been on MN?

And what brought you here? My youngest has just turned 10 which reminded me I found MN when heavily pregnant as suffering agonising SPD with him. I was directed to the Bounty forums by my midwife, then NM was mentioned on there and MN on there. So it was a chain reaction that led me here!
I’m glad it did, I’ve found it a useful hive of information but I can’t believe i’m still here 10 years later Grin

I joined last year but wish I'd found Mumsnet sooner!
I took a pregnancy test last year (first one in about 14yrs!) and a line appeared but not as dark as the control so I was frantically Googling images of pregnancy tests. Mumsnet popped up and I soon discovered many, many threads on this subject!

TheChosenTwo · 15/11/2021 15:44

@Brackenandbramble how did the pregnancy test turn out in the end?!

Blimey @IncompleteSenten I had no idea about any of that Grin thanks for sharing!!

10 or 11 years, wonderful MNers have helped me through two HG pregnancies, the death of my mum, and DDs time in SCBU (we still treasure the wooly hugs blanket from that time).

I joined here before pregnancy was even on the horizon, think I googled something unrelated to parenting, ended up reading an entertaining thread and just never left.

Had a brief break a few years ago because I was finding I was becoming a little hooked, and needed to step back. Couldn't stay away permanently though, I just moderate my use now Grin

2002 I think. It was all fields round here back then...

In a letter to Mumsnet's ISP, Ford's lawyers set out her complaint. Three postings are mentioned. One "bore the defamatory meaning that our client has unpleasant and unhygienic personal habits"; one "bore the defamatory meaning that our client is cruel, uncaring, and justifiably reviled" and "says our client 'straps babies to rockets and fires them into south Lebanon'."
Oh my god Grin

Oblomov21 · 15/11/2021 16:47

16 years I think. Not many name changes, I just change the year at the end of my username.

IncompleteSenten · 15/11/2021 18:43

It was crackers.
I'd never heard of her before that but I have certainly had a very strong opinion of her ever since.

Who was it who did the round up back then? I want to say moon something, moz? Moon? Something m I'm sure.

IncompleteSenten · 15/11/2021 18:44

The apology from the poster was amazing. I wish I'd screenshot it.

SunshineCake1 · 15/11/2021 18:45

When pregnant with number three I think. He's sixteen now Shock. Far too long. Feel like a life time ago. Been through so much. Had some great times on here. Some bloody awful ones too. I still remember a couple of lovely posters from the beginning who really looked out for me plus a poster from around five years ago who I still think of.

Not sure how I came across it but think to do with washable nappies.

How have I never read that before?! 😂

Yousexybugger · 15/11/2021 19:06

About 5 years with different names. I don't have kids but have been through a lot of shit I haven't always wanted to talk about IRL and I have really appreciated the mature, mostly female readership (or whatever the word is!) on here. It's been a good help for me.

That's hilarious. Sorry Justine.

Knittingnanny · 15/11/2021 19:54

From the beginning! For advice and support with youngest son still having food aversions at 10! He is 30 now and almost eats “ normally”!
Now on mumsnet to keep up with current trends etc for doing the right thing with grandchildren day care and trying to do the right thing with daughter in laws!
I did occasionally post on the primary Ed threads as I’ve been an infant teacher since 1978 but beat a hasty retreat as some of the posters on the ( particularly) phonics threads were so rude to me for daring to make any suggestions they didn’t like
I’ve found mumsnet in general a great support through many challenging times so thanks to you all.

isthismylifenow · 15/11/2021 20:01

Another 21 yearer here. I was off and on though. Moved countries and came back again some years later.

I have no idea how I found the site and I can't even remember my user name either.

Does anyone remember the poster SamSmith? Around way before the now well known singer.

scryingeyes · 15/11/2021 20:11

since mine were babies and they are now 23 and 21

IncompleteSenten · 15/11/2021 20:18

Oh wow! Every bit as funny as I remember! Thank you.

Morningpaper! Of course. 🤦

Morningpaper's roundups were brilliant. Friday afternoon about 3 they came out. I made one about my (almost) do it yourself hysterectomy trying to get my mooncup out. My 15 seconds of fame.
Knittingnanny · 15/11/2021 20:49

Is Gina Ford the baby expert who said you shouldn’t make eye contact with your baby after 6pm so they know it’s bedtime? One of my daughter in laws did this with her first ( not the second….) and like the good mother in law I try to be, I just nodded and made suitable supportive approving noises.

IncompleteSenten · 15/11/2021 20:50

Oh yes, it felt bloody good making it into the round up . 😁

Since 2001, I was on a different platform….maybe yahoo groups and it folded so just googled for parenting forum.

It certainly used to be quiet. Some days it seemed like there were only about 20 threads, with a smattering of posts on each one. You could come back after an hour and no new posts at all. A small core of regular posters, Justine and
Carrie used to post quite a lot.
