How long have you been on MN?

And what brought you here? My youngest has just turned 10 which reminded me I found MN when heavily pregnant as suffering agonising SPD with him. I was directed to the Bounty forums by my midwife, then NM was mentioned on there and MN on there. So it was a chain reaction that led me here!
I’m glad it did, I’ve found it a useful hive of information but I can’t believe i’m still here 10 years later Grin

Been here years, and have had loads of name changes. Interestingly enough, I never say 'Ive name changed for this thread'. Because I'm sure all is old timers, couldn't care less. We're here to help. We don't care if you've name changed as it makes no difference to the advice!!!!!!!!

LadyCatStark · 14/11/2021 21:45

Since early 2010. I was also on Bounty and the topics were mostly Due In (Month) and then baby ages. It got really quiet as the babies approached one so I moved over to Mumsnet.

Queenie6655 · 14/11/2021 21:45

@Albgo

Penis beaker! Think I read about it in the daily mail or something and I'd never heard of MN before then. Read the thread and have stayed ever since.
Yes me too

I remember it so well I was supposed to be writing my doctoral thesis and I got hooked to MN :)

18 years. I was pregnant, single and far from home. It was QUIET! I don’t care to admit how many years it took me to realise ‘active convos’ was a thing, I used to click in each topic individually and wonder why there wasn’t much going on BlushConfused

Crocky · 14/11/2021 21:49

At least 17 years.

QueenSue · 14/11/2021 21:50

10 years, loads of name changes as well.
Long live MN!

DustyMaiden · 14/11/2021 21:52

2000 something pregnancy related.

Fordian · 14/11/2021 21:52

Left a couple of times, once when 'threatened' by MN when they were going through one of their 'phases' where certain 'interest groups' managed to wield more power than was intelligent, shall we say 😂.

The nature of MN has changed, obviously. There were about 200 in 2004; now there are hundreds of thousands of us 😂.

It's still good, I still enjoy it, but it's a lot less fun than it used to be. Possibly understandably.

My only example is when a post gets deleted; others quote it going forward (a bit sloppy, sure, but up that quote stays) but it's not leapt upon (as in deletion after deletion as 'quotes a deleted post') because no one, going forward, is reporting it as the original post really didn't need deleting.

PriamFarrl · 14/11/2021 21:53

Since I started to ttc. I don’t know how I would have got through those years, the ivf and the subsequent miscarriage without the support of the Elderberry Pavlovas.
After I while I was brave enough to leave the conception forums and head out.

HeyupitsChristmas · 14/11/2021 21:53

Aaaages.

Had a few name changes and reregistered but at least 10 years.

RainbowLightning · 14/11/2021 21:57

@GiantKitten

21 years Shock

The Guardian’s G2 (edited then by Mr Justine) used to have a small weekly supplement on a Friday, which included recommendations of websites to try, and MN was one of them - late in 2000 iirc.

Never looked back Grin

21 years for me too, similar story except it was an article in the Times Saturday magazine IIRC
CaptainCallisto · 14/11/2021 22:01

Since 2010. Someone bought me the Mumsnet guide to babies when I was pregnant with DS1. It was such a wonderful, very funny, book that I wanted to sign up and join the fun.

mineofuselessinformation · 14/11/2021 22:02

8/9 years.
Having multiple prolapses brought me here - I was desperate because I didn't know anyone else in my position, but there was a thread here which was tremendously helpful.
I've stayed because of the community and support that so many posters give to each other.
This is a lovely nest of vipers indeed! Smile

FindingMeno · 14/11/2021 22:05

10+ years .
I have taken short breaks to go to the loo, sleep and stuff like that tho.

hamstersarse · 14/11/2021 22:06

18 years

I started a thread about toddlers in pushchairs eating Greggs sausage rolls and got my first MN roasting

FiveGoMadInDorset · 14/11/2021 22:06

2006 and the she who cannot be named episode

Ragwort · 14/11/2021 22:12

21 years ... just before my DS was born, only two names. I can remember when we were all asked to send in a donation to keep it going. Grin

Same here - came for sleep advice for DS when he was a few months old - he’s now 22. !

I feel I deserve a long service badge Grin

ditalini · 14/11/2021 22:17

15 years. At the time there was a big stushie about some comments made about Gina Ford that I think maybe got into the press, can't really remember the details.

Anyway, came for a nosey and never went back to Babycentre.

TheChosenTwo · 14/11/2021 22:26

Haha @YouHaveNoAuthorityHereJackie - that’s reminded me that for a good year I thought there was only AIBU as that’s what I first clicked on, didn’t realise that there was so much more to it!

TheChosenTwo · 14/11/2021 22:27

A few people have mentioned she who must not be named! I have no idea who ‘she’ is but this is interesting Grin

DoctorTwo · 14/11/2021 22:33

I joined in 2011 after my then GF sent me a link to a thread titled something like ' AIBU to think men who swim in the middle of the day are paedophiles?' At the time I was working split shifts so could only swim during the day. By the time my registration was acknlowledged the thread had disappeared. I stayed because I found so many threads that made me howl with laughter.

MintyGreenDream · 14/11/2021 22:35

Around 3 years

notacooldad · 14/11/2021 22:37

I've been here since about 2006.
I used to like the music page.
It used to be about gigs and great music. Then it became awful with people asking about piano or clarinet lessons or sheet music.
It was really spoilt.
I ended up bouncing round on threads ever since.

‘She’ is Gina Ford. She threatened legal action as she didn’t like the anti CLB threads
