I really miss the Phileas Fogg snacks from around the 90s, particularly Punjab Puri and Mignon Morceaux… god they were good. Also Frisps if anyone remembers them. And NikNaks before they went dry and biscuity. Anyone else?

ZombeaArthur · 07/11/2021 10:23

Thornton’s strawberry fondant pig. I found out they had been discontinued when I was heavily pregnant and desperately craving one. I actually cried Blush

muldersspeedos · 07/11/2021 10:24

@lollipoprainbow M&S do butter thins. They aren't that thin but they are delicious.

I miss Fox's classics with dark or milk chocolate. They were my favourite biscuit.

I think my children need 54321s in their lives.

Phileas Fogg had ones called Californian corn chips and they were the best things ever. I also miss mighty white bread - blimey you wouldn't get away with calling it that now would you!!

NalPolishRemover · 07/11/2021 10:38

Butterscotch ready brek, I loved that as a child
Fizzle sticks from the penny sweet selection
HB banana ice cream block & how you could buy a slice between 2 wafers in our local.shop
Old fashioned fresh jam doughnuts, they just tasted better
Terrys Choclate Orange before it became waxy
All Cadburys chocolate when it was wrapped in foil & paper & the chocolate had a snap & tested so good
Boil in the bag chicken curry & rice - my first taste of exotic food!
French bread pizzas
Exciting boxes of chocolates on occasions - dairybox, milktray, black magic, etc
Little jars of sandwich filler - my mother loved these & would make sandwiches with soft white bread, plenty of salted butter & this chicken & ham (i think- it was pink). I hated them but grew to like them & nostslgically miss them
The bakery in our town had a cafe & they served salad rolls which are the taste of my childhood. Light dinner rolls with a crisp shell but light & fluffy inside filled with salad all chopped into small pieces & mixed with salad cream or v light mayo. It has egg & ham & onion & lettuce & tomato. I adored them & it was a Saturday treat to go and sit in the cafe & have one with a milky coffee then followed by a doughnut or an eclair! With my mum & my granny. Happy memories

@MrsFin = Ruffles = 99p shop and Asda.
@That'sPlentyJack = (usually just in summer) = Asda (also do chocolate and raspberry ripple).
Nsky = Caramac = Asda or Iceland both £1. For four. Or 99p shop (also four)
@muldersspeedos = Zoom ice lollies = Asda, Iceland or Lidl.

Me = I loved tomato sauce flavoured crisps, Ice Breaker chocolate was a blue and silver wrapper, Mint or orange puffs covered in chocolate. Caramac half covered digestive biscuits, spose I could make these if I could be bothered.
Terry's made these amazing chocolate ice cream bombs with orange sorbet in the middle and covered in milk chocolate, guess I will have to get out my mixer and make some of this myself.
Don't know who wanted the gypsy cream biscuits, but you could make a gypsy tart in about 15 minutes very easy.

pollywollydoodler · 07/11/2021 11:23

@lollipoprainbow you can get Nonsuch Brazil nut toffee in B+M or Amazon. The individual toffees are nice but just have bits in..you'll need to break the bits apart but it's very easy

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000VZSNS0/ref=cmswwemrrmtdpp_YYT91D34VG1D632NPX5D

lollipoprainbow · 07/11/2021 11:32

@pollywollydoodler thanks !! The ones in Sainsbury's were round individual ones which saved having to break off the toffee.

TrevorFountain · 07/11/2021 11:40
@TrevorFountain fruit fools are available at Waitrose
It's on my list for Christmas, thank you!

And thanks to @NotMyCat for the Asda / Munchies tip-off. I'm on a very restricted diet so packet will probably last me a month Grin

TrevorFountain · 07/11/2021 11:43

Terrys Choclate Orange before it became waxy

The dark chocolate orange isn't too bad. Might be worth trying if you can get one for a quid. (Asda does them.)

I agree the milk chocolate orange is unrecognisable, and not in a good way.

pollywollydoodler · 07/11/2021 11:47

@lollipoprainbow the bars are really easy to break..leave them in the packet and hang them over the edge of a table before tapping.
DH Always gets me some at Christmas, he knows that breaking the bars is an intrinsic part of the presentGrin

TuftyMarmoset · 07/11/2021 11:59

@NewlySingle2021

Sainsbury's used to do 2 amazing chocolate things I used to get as a treat. My mum couldn't afford to go there often (we were poor, it was Kwik Save all the way!) but used to get a few special bits for us at birthdays and Christmas. 1 was a chilled dessert called Tartufo and the other were little chocolate chip scotch pancakes. So delicious. Never found anything similar since.
M&S do chocolate chip scotch pancakes
Hippychickster · 07/11/2021 12:29

Ready salted chipsticks. Tesco used to do big bags but stopped a few years ago. I absolutely loved them.

No one does them anymore Sad

Marinated · 07/11/2021 12:57

Raspberry angel delight

Andoffwego · 07/11/2021 14:43
@Andoffwego I remember those burger kits ! Tesco used to do them. I didn't realise they had been discontinued.
Neither did I until about 5 years ago when I had a horrible cold and decided that the only thing in the world that would make me feel better was one of these. I couldn’t find them and have looked ever since to no avail.

mouse26 · 07/11/2021 15:32

@TeethingBabyHelp

Cartoonies. Nobody ever remembers them but they were little bags of biscuits; sort of glossy with a cartoon character on with chocolate in the middle

I'm pregnant and craving them BADLY. But you can't get them anymore. My body doesn't accept this and I think about them daily at the moment

They sell cartoonies in farmfoods if you have one near you. Home bargains do a similar one with pandas on the packet
beachtosunset · 07/11/2021 17:37

@MountainDweller

I'm gluten free too - so fish and chips and Chinese crispy duck with pancakes. And just occasionally a pain au chocolat fresh from the boulangerie.

Fry's peppermint cream, plain chocolate Bounties, old style Mars/Milky Way when the nougat bit was brown, fruit pastilles before they became vegan.

And Beef suet and Wensleydale cheese Sad Thanks Brexit Angry

@MountainDweller

Aldi have suet back in stock very recently. Worth trying there for the Wesleydale in there as I have bought it previously. Wasn;t looking for that recently but definitely saw the suet.

beachtosunset · 07/11/2021 17:40

@RAFHercules

Waitrose almond thins (biscuits), if I could bring back anything it would be them. Mushrooms that taste of proper mushrooms, modern ones are definitely not as full of flavour.
@RAFHercules I know it's not the same as old ones but definitely try Tesco Organic fresh chestnut mushrooms in the green tub. They are tasy enough to have raw in a salad. We love them in this house.
Alfiemoon1 · 07/11/2021 17:42

McDonald’s sausage and egg bagel

beachtosunset · 07/11/2021 17:43
@beachtosunset they must still make cafe Hag, it’s for sale on eBay for £££, also on Amazon but out of stock.
@HazelandChacha thank you very much!

'Hmmmm, Cafe Hag!? Enough for two Ja?' Grin
