Stolen the idea from
Another thread. I wanted a Mr Frosty, but never got one. Apparently my parents says I never asked at Christmas or birthdays. (I did have an A la cart kitchen though.)

Oh I did have the Fashion Wheel, I'm sorry to say that it was fabulous!!!

Lovemusic33 · 21/10/2021 15:43

I never had a Mr frosty or a Cadbury’s chocolate dispenser 🙁, didn’t have the yellow tea pot either but had the big red chimney pot which housed little soot people.

sociallydistained · 21/10/2021 15:44

It was the mates that got one and had it openly around but wouldn’t get it out. They said it was shit. It clearly was but if I’d just of been able to see it for myself I think I’d be over it by now!

Lovemusic33 · 21/10/2021 15:44

And I had the pound puppy that had babies in her tummy.

SuperApple · 21/10/2021 15:44

I asked for a Mr Frosty every year and never got one. I am starting to wonder if there were some conspiracy we weren't aware of (plays satanic messages if his handle is whirled the wrong way?!).
I definitely got a big yellow teapot and a stop me and buy one ice-cream stand. I also recently found out a local second hand toy warehouse was the place to be for my mum and friends in the 80s so that might be the real reason my wish list never correlated with presents received 🤷

Lindy2 · 21/10/2021 15:44

I never got a Mister Frosty either - did anyone actually have one? 😂

I did however buy one for DD a couple of Christmases ago. Mister Frosty is still going strong at Argos.

DD does like it but I tell you trying to crush ice cubes by turning that wobbly plastic handle is like a form of endurance training.

SylvanasWindrunner · 21/10/2021 15:45

Another No Mr Frosty survivor too. I toyed with buying one as an adult but knew it would probably be a letdown. Some loves are best left unrequited.

IhateBoswell · 21/10/2021 15:45
Found a site with copies of old argos catalogues if you want to remind yourself of all the toys you longed to play with: retromash.com/argos/
Aah brilliant 😄

Dahliasrule · 21/10/2021 15:45

My DD always wanted one and would still bring it up.....until she had her own children and now she sees my point!

Baboutheocelot · 21/10/2021 15:46

I wanted a pound puppy too, the one that opened up and had more puppies inside. I think I just got a normal one instead.
I wanted the soda stream and the old toy treehouse. Didn’t get those but I did get a funfax and some crimpers.

Slushynana · 21/10/2021 15:46

This thread has made me laugh so much! My eldest son wanted a Mr Frosty and I was the mean mum who wouldn’t buy one. For my grandsons birthday this year I asked what they would like me to buy him.
His partner told him to ask me for a Slush Puppie machine and my son told her I wouldn’t buy one as I had never bought him a Mr Frosty! He is 45! Obviously not getting a Mr Frosty causes deep psychological issues!
I bought the Slush Puppie machine so now he also knows I love my grandson more than him! Although his partner has told me it is also brilliant for making frozen cocktails, so not quite sure who really wanted it

RuthW · 21/10/2021 15:47

@Finfintytint

I wanted Katie Kopycat and her magic desk. I never got it. Fifty odd years of disappointment Grin
Now I loved my Katy. She's still in my garage.
0blio · 21/10/2021 15:48

Tempted to get DS Guess who for Christmas even though he hasn't asked for it.

Do it @SpottyStripyDuvet you won't regret it! My husband and I used to play it after the kids had gone to bed, it's great Grin

SylvanasWindrunner · 21/10/2021 15:48

I did get a Furby and it was shit. I had loads of tamagotchis. Loved them! Never got the Cadbury dispenser either. Or a gumball machine. Did get some board games with loads of parts that were invariably shit and got played once and then never again.

Circling the Argos catalogue was the first sign of Christmas.

NotAsahmNow · 21/10/2021 15:50

I didn’t get one either

OR lights alive

OR Clark’s magic steps

😭

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 21/10/2021 15:53

The only thing listed so far in this thread that I received was a Petite Typewriter. I loved that thing.

TheShades · 21/10/2021 15:53

@brokenbiscuitsx I had that post office too, it was amazing!
I didn't get a Mr Frosty, I think I asked for it but don't remember being too upset.
I remember playing with the big yellow teapot at home when I was really small but I don't know if it was mine or borrowed from the wonderful toy library

Gonnagetgoing · 21/10/2021 15:54

I never got the cool presents because my mum either couldn't afford them or didn't believe in wasting money on them!

I did get Sindy dolls from my auntie and uncle though.

I recall being slightly envious of friends who had the whole Sindy stable/horsebox, Girls World, Mr Frosty etc.

DB got lots of stuff (Star Wars Millenium Falcon, snooker table etc) but he was seriously ill and almost died twice with asthma so he sort of deserved them more Hmm

Gonnagetgoing · 21/10/2021 15:54

I got a Baby Alive.

DipItAgain · 21/10/2021 15:54

@Etinoxaurus

This is a very excluding thread. Where’s the support for those of us who didn’t get a Girl’s World?
I feel your pain. It happened to me too. I'm here for you.
Ozanj · 21/10/2021 15:54

I never got anything I asked for because I asked for it. But didn’t get anything I didn’t ask for because apparently I didn’t want it. My DP were dicks.

I'd sign up for that as I never received one. Probably why I was always shit at doing DD's hair - wonky plaits, no idea how to French plait.....
TokyoSushi · 21/10/2021 15:56

Oh Clarks Magic Steps! I never had those either, and loads of girls in my class did.

Gonnagetgoing · 21/10/2021 15:59

Yeah, no to the Soda Stream.

Funny that, one of the popular girls at school had parties every year where they had everything (video player, Soda Stream etc).

Turns out her DF was quite abusive (police man) - so the fact that they had holidays to USA etc didn't seem to make up for him being a psycho.

One thing I did have which other kids envied:-

parties where DB and I shared because birthday in same month - but good friend of parents worked in a college and was able to access turntable/tape decks and disco lights (traffic light ones and some other ones) - so we had huge parties where all the kids came.

We also had a big garden with swing, seesaw, pond.

And we got taken away on holidays to the country/seaside and to Chessington/Windsor Safari Park etc - which were good fun - always allowed to bring friends too. And I got a labrador puppy for my 9th birthday and we had all the pets we wanted (hamsters, slow worms, mice, rabbit, guinea pig etc) - my mum never said no to that!

Gonnagetgoing · 21/10/2021 15:59

We both got bought Sony Walkmans in our teens.
