Stolen the idea from
Another thread. I wanted a Mr Frosty, but never got one. Apparently my parents says I never asked at Christmas or birthdays. (I did have an A la cart kitchen though.)

I always wanted a pogo stick and a scooter. Didn't get either.

I also wanted a Mr Frosty and didn't get one - so I bought myself a Slush Puppy machine a couple of years ago instead Grin

EishetChayil · 21/10/2021 15:27

I wanted a cabbage patch doll but was never allowed one because my mum thought they were ugly.

My Dd will probably start a thread like this when she's grown up, saying her mean mum never let her have Bratz dolls! No way, José. They're like stripper figurines.

Fetarabbit · 21/10/2021 15:27

Haha I never got one either despite asking every year.

TheAntiGardener · 21/10/2021 15:29

The first thing I thought when I read the opening post on that other thread was that a support group was needed.

Needless to say, I coveted a mr frosty which I never got. My best friend had one which I always saw when I went round, but she never wanted to use it. That was tough.

My parents weren’t ones for buying lots of stuff so I didn’t have a lot of the iconic 80s toys. My brother had the post office in a box posted upthread, as well as a bank version of the same thing, bigger playmobil sets than me and also the Cadbury’s dispensing thing. Typical spoilt younger sibling!

waltzingparrot · 21/10/2021 15:29

I always wanted a Chopper bike in the 70s but my mum would never let me have one. All my friends had Choppers or Chippers. I had to follow behind on my sensible Rayleigh bike.

littlebilliie · 21/10/2021 15:31

@MedusasBadHairDay

I drew a circle round one in all the argos catalogues we got, but never got it.
That "book of dreams" definitely launched consumerism in a generation.
Redcrayons · 21/10/2021 15:31

I wanted one but my older brother got it instead and we had to share. Obviously my turn was only when my mum made him give me a turn, which was hardly ever.

See also Girls World which is as my sisters
I did have one of those chocolate dispensing machines which were amazing, except once you’d run out of chocolate pretty useless.

I did get lots of lovely things though, it was like a grotto on Christmas Day.

Pickles89 · 21/10/2021 15:31

I never had a Mr Frosty but then I didn't have a TV so never knew they existed.

What I'm scarred by is being THE ONLY CHILD ON THE PLANET not to have had a tamagotchi. I was desperate to have a 101 dalmations one. I even walked around the school playground with a Christmas cracker keyring looped round my finger and clutched in my palm to try and fit in. Still haven't forgiven my mother for that one!

JorisBonson · 21/10/2021 15:32

OP I was always desperate for one too. I ended up buying one myself at a car boot fair, but it didn't come with the syrups or anything so I was just crushing ice for fun.

DH and BIL had one each 🙄

I also never got monopoly, and am still angry that my brother got it for Christmas over a decade ago.

Crazydoglady1980 · 21/10/2021 15:33

I always wanted Mr Frosty too 😢.
We had the post office in a box. I used to love going to my friends as she had my little pony everything!

Notgoingonholiday · 21/10/2021 15:33

Never had Mr Frosty either...
One Christmas following ET coming out I asked for a Speak n Spell, went on about it for ages. I got a Speak n Write...not the same at all. Even at the age of 4 or 5 I remember the disappointment, but also the need to show I was grateful despite it not being quite at all right.

TokyoSushi · 21/10/2021 15:35

No Mr Frosty, or Big Yellow Teapot or a la carte Kitchen here, awful!

I did have a fun fax, loads of Keepers and the Sindy house & range rover though!

FrenchyQ · 21/10/2021 15:35

I always wanted the my little pony grooming parlour

MedusasBadHairDay · 21/10/2021 15:36

@YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake

I wanted a dream phone game. 3 years in a row is asked for one, never got it. Bought it for dd for her birthday last year after they rereleased it (just so I could finally play it) and it was rubbish lol
One of my friends had the original game, we were obsessed with playing it.

I wanted a gameboy, but didn't get one, my brother did though. Gutting.

JorisBonson · 21/10/2021 15:36

@TokyoSushi fun fax!! I forgot how much I loved my fun fax.

MedusasBadHairDay · 21/10/2021 15:37

@FrenchyQ

I always wanted the my little pony grooming parlour
I had that, my dad had still got it in fact and DD plays with it whenever we go visit.
Figgygal · 21/10/2021 15:37

Yes this was THE toy wasn’t it

I remember wanting it for years and being disappointed every Christmas when I didn’t get one I know everyone says it wasn’t missing out on that are pretty shit but that isnt the point

My cousin had one and I was so jealous

SpottyStripyDuvet · 21/10/2021 15:37

Another one here who didn't get a Mr Frosty or the chocolate dispensing machine.

But the biggest disappointment of my childhood was Christmas 1985 when I received the game Perfection rather than the Guess Who that I wanted. I never did get one. It was even worse when I returned to school in January and everybody else had received a walkman. I didn't feel that I could moan as it would expose how babyish I was even though I wouldn't have got a Walkman if I had asked for one.

Thanks for the opportunity to vent, normally I am very good at letting go of things but this one has just stuck with me. Tempted to get DS Guess who for Christmas even though he hasn't asked for it.

Buckydoesafart · 21/10/2021 15:37

@brokenbiscuitsx

I didn’t ever get one, but I did get this and it was awesome ☺️
I had a cheaper version of this but then my dad built me a post office from a big box and I sat in it and served him and my mum through the window - I would spend hours and hours in it
Babybellblue · 21/10/2021 15:38

This thread is brilliant, thank you OP.
I was also the proud owner of Fashion Wheel. My friends were very impressed.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 21/10/2021 15:40

I always wanted a pound puppy, wasn't allowed one. No idea why.

brokenbiscuitsx · 21/10/2021 15:41

That sounds lovely @Buckydoesafart my fondest childish memories are playing in homemade forts of boxes, blankets and cushions Smile

MedusasBadHairDay · 21/10/2021 15:41

Found a site with copies of old argos catalogues if you want to remind yourself of all the toys you longed to play with: retromash.com/argos/

BashfulClam · 21/10/2021 15:41

Nope and also Fashion Wheel. I really wanted that and would have actually spent hours using it x

brokenbiscuitsx · 21/10/2021 15:42

That reminds me, I never got a cabbage patch!
