Breaking news on Sky. David Amess MP has been stabbed ‘multiple times’. Feels like Jo Cox all over again, surely MPs need security around them? Some of the comments they receive on social media are off the scale. All parties as well. I can’t imagine a US Senator wandering around without security?

The only person to blame for what has happened is the man who did it does that only apply when Tories are stabbed, when the abhorrent murder of Jo Cox happened the entire right wing of politics and every person who voted Brexit was told they were in pet responsible

Lonelycrab · 15/10/2021 15:22

This is horrendous newsSad

RIP

I’m quite surprised people think it’s appropriate to be analysing his or his oppositions politics right now. Jo and David went to WORK and won’t come home

And this ^^

WorraLiberty · 15/10/2021 15:22

@AlexaShutUp

My sympathies with his family, friends and anyone who knew him. Including *@WorraLiberty*.Flowers

I knew Jo Cox at university, and although it was years since I had spoken to her, her death hit me very hard indeed.

It doesn't matter what he stood for or whether we agreed with him. He was an elected representative serving his local constituency in the way that he believed was right. It is a travesty that we have allowed this to happen again and a tragic loss to the whole community. It's devastating.

It doesn't matter what he stood for or whether we agreed with him.

That's bang on.

My elderly dad has been a staunch Labour supporter all his life and yet he and David were so close, with a respectful approach to their political differences. It never go in the way of their friendship.

@PersonaNonGarter

This is where Angela Rayner’s ‘scum’ remarks get us.

People genuinely believe politicians are justified targets of abuse.

Yes. Yes. Yes.

People are so vicious about Tories. Vicious.

worriedatthemoment · 15/10/2021 15:24

Awful tragedy and politicians really do need more protection
A man simply went to work and now won't come home, that is awful and I do hope his family were informed before its hit the news .

Sapphire387 · 15/10/2021 15:24

Terrible news. RIP Flowers

pintsizeprincess · 15/10/2021 15:24

Horrific news. Thinking of his family.

anon12345678901 · 15/10/2021 15:25

@hamstersarse people are always vicious about theirs. Simply because they have different viewpoints.

EspressoDoubleShot · 15/10/2021 15:26

@ToffeeMint

I really hope his family didn't find out about the stabbing via the news outlets.

This is so sad

His NOK will have been notified v quickly by police and a Family liaison officer FLO assigned as it’s a homicide
ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 15/10/2021 15:26

A human being has lost their life because of the violent actions of another person - his friends and family will be in shock at what has happened. That is what matters.

The only political element that should come into it is how do we protect democracy from those who would attack it with violence. Whatever, our political views our elected representatives deserve to be able to work on our behalf in safety not in fear.

RIP Flowers

People are so vicious about Tories. Vicious.

What about the Tory who wanted to kill Annalise Dodds? That wasn’t vicious, I suppose? And the nutter who killed Jo Cox? Nothing vicious about him. 🙄

girlmom21 · 15/10/2021 15:27

ITV News just did a programme interruption and confirmed police arrested a man at the scene so at least there's not still a murderer on the loose.

This is horrific. I absolutely am not a Tory but the murder of anyone for their views or position as an elected representative is a heinous attack on our democracy. We should all be able to state our views and debate them rationally without extremism or violence.

What a terrible personal tragedy for his family and friends. May he RIP.

LizBennet · 15/10/2021 15:29

Any Tory MP could have been a target.
Surely, people can see this?

I can never see murder being the answer to anything, no 🙄

VeryLongBeeeeep · 15/10/2021 15:30

Holding different political views or having a different opinion on a particular issue does not, ever, justify violence or death threats. Play the ball, not the man. We're supposed to be a democracy; if you disagree about something then debate it and agree to disagree if necessary.

This is a sad day. Thinking of his family, friends and loved ones.

@ninnynonny

Sadly, this could be seen to be one of the results of the appalling and inhumane policies the Tory party have put upon us. Whoever he was, however good an MP he was, so many people are so desperate because of the way they are being forced to exist due to these policies, that they see this as an answer. Any Tory MP could have been a target. Surely, people can see this?
killing is never ok, it doesn't matter what the tory party do and how much it affects you

You know fuck all about what motivated the murderer. Using this to try to score cheap political points is disgusting. Shame on you.
AuntMasha · 15/10/2021 15:30

He was carrying out constituency work at his surgery. The work they do in surgeries is where all MPs are on the same side.

RIP

What on Earth in my comment makes you think that?

It applies in any case.

I'm so very sorry @WorraLiberty. Sounds like this news will be very difficult for your poor dad. It's hard to comprehend when it happens.

Counterterrorism is in attendance because there might be a political element. It does not mean they think it's terrorism. They are there to help determine if it is or not.
