Breaking news on Sky. David Amess MP has been stabbed ‘multiple times’. Feels like Jo Cox all over again, surely MPs need security around them? Some of the comments they receive on social media are off the scale. All parties as well. I can’t imagine a US Senator wandering around without security?

RIP🙏

ToffeeMint · 15/10/2021 15:16

It is not a fact that it has anything to do with 'porous borders' That is speculation, which in the current circumstances is completely abhorrent.

GrouchyKiwi · 15/10/2021 15:16

This is fucking awful. His poor family.

PurpleDaisies · 15/10/2021 15:16

This is absolutely awful.

Thoughts are with the family.

PersephoneJames · 15/10/2021 15:16

How awful. His poor family, I can’t imagine how scary it would be to find out on Twitter. Also Flowers to the pp that know him personally.

I’m quite surprised people think it’s appropriate to be analysing his or his oppositions politics right now. Jo and David went to WORK and won’t come home.

US Senators definitely go around in their private lives without security.

ToffeeMint · 15/10/2021 15:17

I really hope his family didn't find out about the stabbing via the news outlets.

This is so sad

lemmein · 15/10/2021 15:17

@YearsSinceISawYou

Out of an elected MP's mouth-a very senior politician-came the remarks that her opposition are scum.

Her sex matters not.

The remarks could easily inflame.

I don't care if she is a man, a woman or a unicorn but what she can't be allowed to do is hide behind her sex or be given a pass for it.

A person made those remarks. That person didn't kill this poor man but is not blameless.

I hope she realises this but I wouldn't bet on it.

MP James Gray joked about planting a bomb under Anneliese Dodds chair - the same week AR made her comments. Johnson/Patel have come out with a myriad of inflammatory comments. It's interesting though that AR is being held to blame here.

Maybe the suspect has MH issues? Maybe he's a victim of PIP cuts? Maybe he's the family of a covid victim and the report this week triggered him?

NOBODY KNOWS - the ONLY thing we know is that an MP was killed by a violent man.

IntermittentParps · 15/10/2021 15:17

cuparfull, what's a fact?

This is dreadful news.

RancidOldHag · 15/10/2021 15:17

ITS A FACT!

The only confirmed fact is that a man has been arrested at the scene and a knife recovered (source: BBC, who I think we can rely on in these circs)

There may be reports from eyewitnesses idc, but right now nothing has been confirmed other than he was stabbed several times and died despite air-ambulance medical intervention at the scene.

Peridot1 · 15/10/2021 15:17

Horrific. Poor man was just doing his job.

His poor family.

Fariha31 · 15/10/2021 15:18

Poor guy. Seems like he was one of the good ones too. His poor family. I hope they can find some comfort somewhere.

AlexaShutUp · 15/10/2021 15:18

My sympathies with his family, friends and anyone who knew him. Including @WorraLiberty.Flowers

I knew Jo Cox at university, and although it was years since I had spoken to her, her death hit me very hard indeed.

It doesn't matter what he stood for or whether we agreed with him. He was an elected representative serving his local constituency in the way that he believed was right. It is a travesty that we have allowed this to happen again and a tragic loss to the whole community. It's devastating.

momtoboys · 15/10/2021 15:18

What a shame.

Derbee · 15/10/2021 15:18

@cuparfull you’re going to keep getting reported, and your racist bile will keep being deleted, so save yourself the effort you absolute idiot

LookItsMeAgain · 15/10/2021 15:18

He has died from his injuries. How terribly sad. He was just doing his job at his clinic and is stabbed while doing that.
I have no affiliations to any political party.
My thoughts go out to his family, his friends and his colleagues. This is really shocking.

Oh, and to the people saying that this is down to the UK borders being so porus, you have heard the expression "terrorists both foreign and domestic" right??? There is such a thing as domestic terrorism. I however don't think that this is the time to discuss that or perhaps the thread to discuss that on.

A man has died while doing his job. Can't we just take a moment to reflect that that has happened?

Mulhollandmagoo · 15/10/2021 15:18

The situation is truly grim but the only person to blame for this, at the moment is the person with the knife

^^^

What an awful thing to happen to that poor man, his poor family must be reeling!!! may he rest in peace Flowers

Sirzy · 15/10/2021 15:19

The only person to blame for what has happened is the man who did it.

However. That doesn’t mean that as a result of this, and when the initial shock has settled, there shouldn’t be questions asked on a variety of topics around what could be done to avoid similar happening again and that may well include looking at the language used around politics

RussianSpy101 · 15/10/2021 15:20

Oh no, he’s died :(

Mummyoflittledragon · 15/10/2021 15:20

Poor man. I’ve just seen he’s died from his injuries. His poor family. Flowers

Immaculatemisconception · 15/10/2021 15:21

This is utterly horrific, utterly. That poor man and his poor family.

RIP.

Whiskyinajar · 15/10/2021 15:22

I met David Amess several times over the years and he was always a decent man . He just wanted to make a positive difference to his constituents and I'm devastated that he has died like this. I'm not even a Conservative...something we had some in depth discussions about at times....and some laughs too.

Just absolutely shocked this afternoon.
Thinking of his family
RIP David, it's so unfair you had to die this way.

SmallPrawnEnergy · 15/10/2021 15:22

This is where Angela Rayner’s ‘scum’ remarks get us.
Do you hold Boris to this same level of responsibility? We could hold him responsible for every single islamaphobic attack after his MANY vile statements?
