Breaking news on Sky. David Amess MP has been stabbed ‘multiple times’. Feels like Jo Cox all over again, surely MPs need security around them? Some of the comments they receive on social media are off the scale. All parties as well. I can’t imagine a US Senator wandering around without security?

Sadly, this could be seen to be one of the results of the appalling and inhumane policies the Tory party have put upon us. Whoever he was, however good an MP he was, so many people are so desperate because of the way they are being forced to exist due to these policies, that they see this as an answer. Any Tory MP could have been a target. Surely, people can see this?
Seriously - you think this is an appropriate post about a man's death. We have no idea of the motives of the attacker at this stage.

The political points scoring on both sides on this thread is repulsive

crankysaurus · 15/10/2021 15:31
Sad
ninnynonny · 15/10/2021 15:31

Not in any way trying to score cheap political points, just commenting on what COULD have happened.
I knew this would be the reaction.

Fuck me. The poor man has been dead for all of 5 minutes and people are already using it to point score. No one knows what the motive was, and speculation on the matter isn't going to help but there's no excuse for it regardless.

DoraMaude · 15/10/2021 15:31

Verylongbeeeep Well said.

Luckytattie · 15/10/2021 15:31

It must be awful for the family have the explode over Twitter. Imagine if they found out that way. God I really hope not

You are disgusting. A man has been killed.
EspressoDoubleShot · 15/10/2021 15:32

@MsTSwift

Think of this when there is the next thread bitching about MPs being paid £80k 🙄.
No Don’t conflate unrelated topics A homicide is unrelated to MO pay You Making such ill informed statements adds nothing

Nope, just see someone trying to score points on the back of a tragedy

Agree and it’s sick. To use a tragedy to beat a political drum. Christ it doesn’t get much lower .

CaptainChannel · 15/10/2021 15:33

This is utterly horrendous. Some people are fucking deranged.

YearsSinceISawYou · 15/10/2021 15:33

@ninnynonny

Are you actually trying to justify his murder?

I hope you're banned from this site.

PurpleDaisies · 15/10/2021 15:33

@ninnynonny

Do be quiet about point scoring. Not even slightly,. Its ok for many other to 'blame' angela rayner though?
You really can’t see what you wrote was totally inappropriate given the man was stabbed to death this afternoon?
Pinkfairylights · 15/10/2021 15:33

It's terrible that another MP has been murdered while working for their constituents.

RIP 🙏

No it isn't. This is one of those times when partisan politics should be put aside.
antoniawhite · 15/10/2021 15:34

@AuntMasha

He was carrying out constituency work at his surgery. The work they do in surgeries is where all MPs are on the same side.

RIP

An excellent post.

RIP Sir David. Thank you for your work for animals rights and your help of refugees.

Hi - just dropping in to say that we've removed a couple of inflammatory posts and some speculation. We're allowing the discussion to continue, but would like to remind people to please post within the guidelines. Flowers

Please, this thread is about a man's death. A man with a wife and children, and others who loved him. Whichever side of the debate you're on, please do him the dignity of not turning this thread into a political slanging match. There is no need.

This.
AdaColeman · 15/10/2021 15:36

This is dreadful news. It's appalling that this should have happened in our democracy.

This with bells on

cricketmum84 · 15/10/2021 15:37

Just absolutely awful news. I am so sad for this man's friends and family. He has been responsible for some amazing work.

Brings back so many memories of Jo Cox. It happened near where we live, a place I used to drive past every day and the kids school had to be put on lockdown.

Really think that they should be looking at increasing security for MPs now this is the second time this has happened in a few years.

RedToothBrush · 15/10/2021 15:37

@Sirzy

The only person to blame for what has happened is the man who did it.

However. That doesn’t mean that as a result of this, and when the initial shock has settled, there shouldn’t be questions asked on a variety of topics around what could be done to avoid similar happening again and that may well include looking at the language used around politics

Including, why are MPs seen as 'legitimate targets for abuse'.

We need to have a zero tolerance policy for personal attacks in the same way that is slowly being rolled out for football.

In the vein of the football comparison, politicians themselves need to learn to play the ball, not the person. That goes for them all, cos the personal attacks are one of the most off putting, unpleasant and alienating things in British politics. The media amply it too.

We just shouldn't be tolerating any of it.

We should be talking about issues instead.
