I wouldn't have recognised Madonna

I've just read an article about a recent appearance by Madonna on an American chat show (Daily Mail, sorry). She's changed so much, I don't think I would have recognised her if the article hadn't said who it was.

Now if you wanna see a lovely classy rock star who is older, but still looks fab (with not much help,) just look at Debbie Harry. she is 76, and looks AMAZING!

I wouldn't have recognised Madonna
toocold54 · 08/10/2021 21:38

She looks great, she seems confident. She may have had some works done, but what's wrong with that if she feels happy about it?
Why do people need to feel sad about whatever choice other people made?

She has had loads of work done. And it’s sad because the main reason she’s had this work done is because if she aged naturally she wouldn’t be selling records, doing interviews. So as a female you either try and fight the ageing process for as long as you can or give up your job that you love doing.

TableFlowerss · 08/10/2021 21:41

@toocold54

This is the whole problem, when she was young she was overtly sexual as a fuck you. Now she is overtly sexual because it's expected of her, plastic surgery to look younger because society says you're worthless if you're not young, this is NOT a fuck you it's conforming to industry/societal misogyny. Women are now (on top of everything else) to never get old.

Excellent post, I completely agree!

It’s sad to read how many posters (mainly women) think this is absolutely fine and it’s ‘empowering’ as she’s older.

It’s completely the opposite- she’s had to have dangerous, expensive surgery and has to flash her new butt cheeks off because she’s not allowed to look older else she won’t be successful.
Like every other women on tv you either look young or you don’t have a job - men don’t have this problem.

We shouldn’t be congratulating someone and saying they look great when they don’t look anything like themselves.

Absolutely this
BorderlineHappy · 08/10/2021 21:42

I know she's certainly been influential, no denying that, but I get tired of people acting as though there were no female artists who influenced her. No groundbreaking female artists who existed before Madonna.

I didnt say that.I said the current crop of female artists credit Madonna.
Madonna credits David Bowie,Debbie Harry,Chrissie Hynde.

She took risks when no ine else did.Janet,Mariah seen she was succesful doing this and followed suit.

Absolutely - all hail Debbie Harry. We’re going to see Blondie later this year, I cannot wait.
SirChenjins · 08/10/2021 21:46

*Next year - forgot it’s been postponed

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 08/10/2021 21:47

I feel sorry for her. She was so huge back in the day and l don't suppose she ever thought there would be a time when she wasn't relevant. We all see her behaviour as embarrassing but l suspect she is so sad inside that she is 'over the hill' and that fuels this desperate fight for attention. Attention any which way, even if it means losing her dignity.

Her face is so puffy. She wasn’t a conventional beauty but she was always attractive.

Bluntness100 · 08/10/2021 21:52

God I hate these faux innocent “what me being catty” threads.

Yes she’s had a lot of work but she’s clearly recognisable as Madonna.

You’re fooling no one.

Bluntness100 · 08/10/2021 21:56

Madonna is still 22 in her head, and she really REALLY acts it. She hangs around people 35-40 years younger, and always has a boyfriend young enough to be her son, if not her grandson... The wacky, controversial, 'look how wild I am' act is old and tiresome now. She tries (and fails) to look 30 years younger. She looks like a woman in her late 50s/early 60s who has had a fuckload of wacky face procedures

Lol yes she’s had too much work but the reality is she goes t9 bed early most nights is an overly hands on parent and her treat is a magnum ice cream in bed, the rest is publicity, she goes for th shock factor

I really am stunned anyone in their fifties is naive enough to believe that she’s out clubbing every night and really going with men in their twenties . Cmon no one is that naive?

parentinghelp1 · 08/10/2021 21:57

@MyPatronusIsACat

Meh, it's Madonna, she has been controversial for 40 years.

Her face is looking a bit frozen/odd though. Shame that women (in the public eye) feel the need to do this. Still, if she didn't have botox and collagen, she'd be slated for being haggard/rough, and looking 'old and tired.'

Let's face it, women can't win can we?

This is a true post - have you seen the backlash for example Sarah Jessica Parker is getting because she hasn't had surgery.

It does feel like for women, damned if we do and damned if we don't.

It isn't really true though. There are many male actors/singers/ artist who go through this too.

My impression of her, after not having seen her for ages, was that she looked great. Maybe not perfect, but beautiful enough?

parentinghelp1 · 08/10/2021 22:01

@BorderlineHappy

Theres a thread about Elton John. Nothing is mentioned about his wig,which is his way of hanging on to his youth. To me theres no difference.
😂 I never noticed he wears wigs tbf.

I also disagree with this because MOST celebs wear wigs - young and old so it's not really that shocking is it? But paying thousands of dollars to change your face, and grinding in your underwear is not the same as wearing a wig

Bluntness100 · 08/10/2021 22:01

That’s the thing, Madonna goes for controversy. She has done for decades. The shock factor, how do folks still not know this and believe the shit she portrays is real?

I mean cmon. There are enough articles out there interviewing her, her kids to know she in reality lives a very quiet life, is a strict parent and then puts on a controversial act for her profile.

It isn’t real folks.

spinachandchickpea · 08/10/2021 22:03

She looks great. She’s obviously fit. I’d imagine it’s her choice to get Botox, surgery, whatever she’s had - there’s no desperation in it, she’s choosing to look younger than she is not necessarily for the male gaze but for her own. All this snide commentary on her appearance is lame. Listen to what she’s saying, she’s had an extraordinary life so far and she’s a great role model for kids. She’s cool.

BorderlineHappy · 08/10/2021 22:04

Thank fuck who needs to see Elton like that.

Im off now to watch Madame X on MTV.

ZenNudist · 08/10/2021 22:05

I know it's all fake and not looking particularly "fresh" but she is doing well for 63. I thought that video of her dance workout made her look a bit granny. She's still very fit but I do think her new look is very porn star and with her money and image consultants could have gone for a classier look.

WorraLiberty · 08/10/2021 22:06

Debbie Harry looks every bit her age and great for it, just as Madonna does.

I wouldn't have recognised Madonna
Bluntness100 · 08/10/2021 22:08

I’m not a fan of hers at all but she’s one of the most successful female pop stars ever. I may not agree with how she portrays herself or how she goes for the shock factor but it’s her bag and she does it well.

She’s single. Has been for years, raising her kids, goes to bed earl6 most nights by all accounts and treats herself to a magnum.

Her surgery isn’t for me but they all do it, Tom cruise, Elton John, John travolta, Nicole Kidman, Jane Fonda, it’s not exactly unusual In those circles,

People need to remember she’s playing a role. A shock role and stop drinking the cool aid and believing the hype,

MyPatronusIsACat · 08/10/2021 22:08

@SirChenjins

Absolutely - she can do what she wants, but I guarantee that if a 63 year old bloke with a face filled with Botox draped himself over a female interviewers desk and flashed his thong encased bum on national TV we’d be having a very different conversation about his ‘empowerment’

This ^ in spades.

AnnieSnap · 08/10/2021 22:20

@MadameTuffington

I don’t get why some previously ragingly sexually attractive women still need to feel like this at 60 fucking 3 - purleeeease Madge, put your arse and vag AWAY - this is not 1986!

and I say this as a teen girl who was hooked on Madonna.

Sigh

Not sure if you realise this, but us woman in our 60s still feel sexual too!
WorkHardPlayHard1 · 08/10/2021 22:48

@Newnewnew1179

I’m delighted she’s not growing old gracefully, she’s Madonna ffs. It’s her face and her body and she can do what she wants with it as she always has done.

Distinct whiff of patriarchal disapproval about a woman in her sixties not behaving in the way society expects her to on this thread - it’s depressing

Totally agree. Sounds like jealousy and diminishes her. She can act how she wants to at any age, its her choice & shes working the media & got you talking. Job done. Genius.
SirChenjins · 08/10/2021 23:03

No such thing as bad publicity, eh?

alligatorpeardrop · 08/10/2021 23:22

She looks alright to me.

nonono1 · 09/10/2021 00:32

Click the link,thats from when she was 30. So even when she was younger she got called out.
Ageism is horrible at any age.

That article is shocking and so nasty @BorderlineHappy. Being called a grandma at 35 - WTF?

NiceGerbil · 09/10/2021 01:45

Not RTFT.

She's had stacks of plastic surgery so no she doesn't look the same.

If she hadn't, at 63 she would look very different but in a different way, I'd imagine. At least to how I remember her.

The video for Vogue is totally amazing in every way. If anyone doesn't know it! Take a look.
