I wouldn't have recognised Madonna

I've just read an article about a recent appearance by Madonna on an American chat show (Daily Mail, sorry). She's changed so much, I don't think I would have recognised her if the article hadn't said who it was.

She’s the same age as me and I remember when the skin on her face began to show signs of looseness and wondering how she’d age. It was quite early on so she’s had a lot of work over the decades. She’s also had to work very hard under the glare of hyper critical media so it’s bound to have an effect.

Are pop icons allowed to show their age? Unless you’re Bowie or the Rolling Stones...

billysboy · 08/10/2021 17:04

I met her once , she came across very well and i liked her

BorderlineHappy · 08/10/2021 17:05

She was never going to get a twin set and pearls.

SionnachRua · 08/10/2021 17:06

@BorderlineHappy

She was never going to get a twin set and pearls.
Tbh if she did, that'd be the most genuinely shocking thing she could do.
Avarua · 08/10/2021 17:08

I love any woman who does whatever the fuck she wants at 63. You do you, Madonna!

Pollywants · 08/10/2021 17:09

amused I am confused how she is vulnerable? Historically she has been an extremely tough woman, a very driven woman. She is amazingly successful. She knows her own mind and does what she wants? And she has the money to do it? I wish I was vulnerable as her!

workshy44 · 08/10/2021 17:09

Music is even more brutal than acting. She was never about the voice but the show, persona so has to stay looking "young" to be relevant I think. Ì still think she is pretty cool. is such a manufactured world where every word they utter is choregraphed she says what she thinks and isn't afraid to upset the applecart

FAQs · 08/10/2021 17:11

She has always been like this, why should she have to slow down because of her age, I’ve always liked her fuck it attitude, re the surgery, her body, her face.

DamnUserName21 · 08/10/2021 17:15

I watched the video on Youtube.
I was expecting her to look worse, tbh. And I thought the vid was quite funny.
She's got people and the media talking about it so smartwoman!

Agree.

Shes the best selling female artist ever.
She was never about the voice but the show, persona
That would only get you so far.
She has talent, she can sing, she can dance.
Shes not Streisand i give you that. But there are worse out there.
Jlo for one.

Pinkspecs · 08/10/2021 17:21

I think she looks great for 63.
And she's having fun, good for her!

SirChenjins · 08/10/2021 17:22

Her talent for shocking overtook her musical talent a long time ago - which is why I think it's all looking a bit tired now. The music industry is a young person's game - it was in the 80s when she burst onto the scene and it is now. She knows that.

IncessantNameChanger · 08/10/2021 17:24

I think she looks great. No one ages naturally in her line of A list celebs. It's hardly a shocker shes had work done.

YourFinestPantaloons · 08/10/2021 17:24

By wouldn't you have recognised her? She looks the same as ever.

Or is this a thinly veiled attempt to criticise her for not being a typical 63yo who knits and doesn't speak?

nahnahna · 08/10/2021 17:25

I think she's very witty and fun

Pinkspecs · 08/10/2021 17:26

'I love any woman who does whatever the fuck she wants at 63. You do you, Madonna!'

Actually I think this sums up what I think better.^^

AmanitaRubescens · 08/10/2021 17:27

If Madonna isn’t out there promoting something, I wonder what else she has that makes her happy tbh

Six seemingly much cherished children.

A what?? I don't know any 63 year old who knits and doesn't speak - please don't stereotype women in their 60s (or indeed any age) like that.
amusedtodeath1 · 08/10/2021 17:32

Polly wants, there are lots of biographies out there if you want to find out more, (her brother Christopher's book is good). Short version, mother died of breast cancer when she was 5, new step mum and her didn't get on, strict Catholic upbringing, attention seeking, looking for someone to love her, being wary of people who may just want to use her for her fame/money/power. Abusive marriage, afraid of getting cancer (see mums death), dietary restrictions, excessive workouts, not being able to relax.

She is a full complex personality and has many sides the public don't see.

BorderlineHappy · 08/10/2021 17:39

Christophers book is shite.
He thinks he should be the star and not Madonna.
She is a full complex personality and has many sides the public don't see.
We know that.
But shes very close to her family and in fact her sister is named in her will for taking on her children if something should happen to her.

TableFlowerss · 08/10/2021 17:40

You’d think with the amount of money she’s made over the years, she’d be happy to grow old gracefully. I’m not even talking about how she looks, the way she’s acting is beyond cringe.

Her poor kids are bound to get ripped to shreds. As a pp pointed out, if she wants to be relevant, stop making a spectacle of yourself and se your voice for the great good

What about embarrassment like

MrsColon · 08/10/2021 17:50

@Inextremis

She's a little older than me (a matter of months), and I'm now really angry that she has felt the need to appear 'preserved' - it's as though the natural appearance of a woman in her 60s is something to be ashamed of and avoided. I feel devalued by her - and I used to find her empowering. Obviously, I realise that what she chooses to do with her face and body has absolutely nothing to do with me, but I'm still sitting here feeling rather cross about it all.
Why get cross at Madonna? It's not like she's immune from all the pressure - if anything it's worse for her than for you! Just because she's famous and wealthy doesn't mean she owes you anything, she can do what she likes.
MrsColon · 08/10/2021 17:51

And this thread is so sad - a bunch of women doing the patriarchy's job for them. Sad

PixelatedLunchbox · 08/10/2021 17:51

She looks and sounds incredible still. Surgery or not, good for her.
