Your letting your ELEVEN YEAR OLD CHILD watch a show where multiple men rape a dying woman to then have a player take organs out of her whilst she's still alive??

I thought that body was male - the first one we see that they took the eye from? I thought he was bluffing to try to stress that the body was female and not his brother, but who knows. I didn't like that part, everything was awful enough, it was unnecessary to add that.

Children should not be watching this show. It's rated 15. But that's not on the TV show, it's on the parents. This always comes up with any super popular game, TV show, film with adult themes, or music with explicit lyrics. We can't baby-proof the entire world. It's down to parents to use parental controls on devices and know what their children are doing.

RevolvingPivot · 09/10/2021 12:57

So many threads on this. Just search.

GatoradeMeBitch · 09/10/2021 13:00

adults who wouldn't normally give this stuff time of day have all been caught up in this hype and are raving about a series that they then tell their DC they can't watch as it is so bad and horrible but they watched it

You're making it sound like they're being hypocrites. It's a 15 rated show. It's not for kids. Adults do lots of things children can't/shouldn't do. What kind of bar is that?

EffOrf · 09/10/2021 13:03

People are not even letting their 16 year olds watch it, it like a comic type series that is obviously aimed at teens who are about 15

EffOrf · 09/10/2021 13:10

The age it is aimed at is probably 14-20.

Icenii · 09/10/2021 13:15

DD9 was asking about this today. The boys in her class were playing it at play time. They were boosting at having watched it in their rooms, but maybe they picked it up from Roblox?

sqirrelfriends · 09/10/2021 13:23

If you are allowing your child/young teen to watch Squid Game you are negligent. Sorry.

I'm with @bookworm14 on this. No excuse.

I do think it should be an 18 though, some parents might think it's like hunger games with no gore.

middleager · 09/10/2021 13:36

Agree with this. It's tame in my opinion.

My 15 year olds want to watch it, but I think they'll get bored and find it fairly lightweight too.

TheGrumpyGoat · 09/10/2021 13:41

A series in which women are raped and organs are harvested from live people is ‘tame’? Bloody hell. I’d hate to see your ‘extreme’.

ThanksItHasPockets · 09/10/2021 13:56

@Ridiculousradish

My nearly 12 year old boy says most of his friends have seen it, and all talk about it at school. No fucking way would I let him watch it.
KS3 children are definitely watching it - I work in a school and could hear 'red light, green light' floating up to my classroom window at break time the other day. Many of my students' parents don't seem to make any use of the parental controls on streaming services.
OhWhyNot · 09/10/2021 14:12

Many children know there way around the internet well enough to watch clips

It’s all over you tube, they send each other clips of the show

Anything that is driven by social media our children will be knowledgeable about before we are

It’s a brilliant series ds watched it (14) he wasn’t bothered by the violence but he was by the story behind the violence (don’t want to give away spoilers).

ColdAsMice · 09/10/2021 14:13

I don't get invested or emotional with TV at all but episode 6 really got to me, I was a blubbering mess. No way would my kids be watching this.

CoffeeWithCheese · 09/10/2021 14:14

There's a hell of a lot of blagging your tweenage arse off about having seen it but not having a clue really going on. Same as when my 9 year old could identify Pennywise... she'd picked up the identity of the character from other kids in school but has no fucking clue of the existence of IT.

I know for a fact that the only reason she knows of the existence of Squid Game is because of Roblox and she got told NO FUCKING WAY when she suggested playing that (Roblox is so restricted in this house she's not going to risk losing the privileges she has to it).

I'm sure her old school there'll be one kid who has seen it - and about 5-6 boys absolutely bullshitting their arses off that they have - don't think the same with the cohort in her current school.

fussychica · 09/10/2021 14:15

If you know a programme is rated 15+ why on earth would you allow an 11 year old to watch it, particularly without watching it first yourself? Bit late to be asking if it's bad!

OhWhyNot · 09/10/2021 14:56

I sobbed in episode 6 ds had a cry too

So many emotions, anger, frustration and sadness. Never would have thought that from the first episode

AnimalTheDrummer · 09/10/2021 15:54

Haven’t read the full thread (but read most of it). But just wanted to say that if anyone’s young dc are hearing friends saying they’ve seen it or if any teachers are hearing from pupils that they’ve seen it, they might not have necessarily actually watched it. My 11 year old dd (who definitely hasn’t seen it)knows the names of the characters and how some of the games work as there are now squid game style games on roblox like ‘red light, green light’.

Iheartbaby · 09/10/2021 17:23

@WhichHairBear

I thought it was incredibly dystopian n really crap. Wouldn't recommend in the slightest. Predictable, boring and very poor dubbing
I agree, I have just started watching it and I think it’s quite boring and badly acted or maybe just the crap dubbing. I’m shocked that so many people are shocked and horrified by it.
InFiveMins · 09/10/2021 17:58

I started watching it today, think on episode 5 now. It's Ok, I initially didn't want to watch in case it's too explicit. It is violent but not too gory so I've been able to watch most of it. Wouldn't say it's the most gripping series I've ever watched but on the whole it's alright.

Certainly not suitable for children / young teens.

00100001 · 09/10/2021 18:16

@Iheartbaby

I'm guessing you haven't got to the bit about rape, hanging corpses from the ceiling, live organ harvesting, a naked woman being used as a foot stall, and people pushing each other off bridges....

Good point l, no I haven’t got to that point yet

Yeah, I mean that definitely sounds ‘tame’ and suitable for kids and young teens!

Bunnycat101 · 09/10/2021 19:10

Some people have no sense of responsibility towards their children and what they are watching. I remember seeing the hunger games in the cinema sat near someone who in their infinite wisdom thought it would be a good thing for a 3/4 year old to watch. That child was traumatised, lots of tears, disruption etc . It was well before I had my own children but that stuck in my mind.

The thought of someone showing a 5 year old squid game is abhorrent but it sadly doesn’t surprise me.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 09/10/2021 19:55

The acting is amazing. Try it with subtitles - I promise you won't melt.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 09/10/2021 20:12

I do wish people would stop with the condescending comments about trying the subtitles. Not everyone can cope with them. Fine it's better with subtitles, but they're not universally accessible and there no need for condescension or contempt. It doesn't make you look clever.

ISpyCobraKai · 09/10/2021 20:18

I actually read that its better to watch with dubbing as the subtitles mean you miss bits.
No idea how true that is though.
