@Flowersintheattic2021

Isit bad. Not seen it but my nearly 12 year old is watching it
It's not suitable for kids, a lot of adult themes. "The BBFC have awarded Squid Game a 15 rating in the UK for "sexual violence references, injury detail, crude humour, sex, suicide, sexual images, violence".
Timeisavirtue · 07/10/2021 22:14

I watched 30 minutes and thought WTF! But I’ve been thinking about it since and now have decided to watch the rest.....

Peraltiago · 07/10/2021 22:15

Do not understand why people are letting kids watch this! It’s got brutal violence, sex scenes and also Id have thought the themes were beyond kids anyway. It’s an adult programme, exercise some thought here!

ISpyCobraKai · 07/10/2021 22:17

I absolutely loved it and its not my usual thing at all.
It's utterly brutal though, but very clever.

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 07/10/2021 22:21

Is it like when Black Mirrors was really popular but then when you actually watch it, it's really fucking shit?

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 07/10/2021 22:22

@nancybotwinbloom

Adults in huge debt agree to play games for massive amounts of money.

If they lose they are out. Literally out of the game. It's very good.

Oh yes it sounds exactly like black mirrors.

I think I'll pass

mummabubs · 07/10/2021 22:26

As others have said, definitely not appropriate for children at all.

DH and I binged it (in Korean with subs, I can't stand dubbing). Absolutely loved the series and we'd definitely watch any subsequent ones, but without giving any spoilers away I confess I did feel slightly disappointed with the "big reveal" in the finial episode. Felt to me like it would have been great... Had a major horror film franchise not had pretty much exactly the same twist just 10 years earlier 😅

7catsisnotenough · 07/10/2021 22:34

Watched it, really enjoyed it despite it not being my usual type of thing. The psychological twists put it into a different class of "horror/violence " imho.

DEFINITELY not suitable viewing for a 12 year old, sorry (unless you're hoping to raise a notorious serial killer?!)

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 07/10/2021 22:42

I turned off after 30 minutes, bored stiff. Watched All Creatures Great and Small instead. I suspect I’m not the target audience.

Midnightstar76 · 07/10/2021 22:44

Just finished watching this. Was excellent. It should not be a 15 though and certainly an 18.

milkysmum · 07/10/2021 22:49

I have only watched episode 1, but as others have said my daughter ( nearly 13 ) has watched the whole thing and rated it. She watched it on Netflix on her tv in her room, and to be fair- all of her friends have also seen it as I have heard them all chatting about it.

OhWhyNot · 07/10/2021 22:50

I finished it last night

I think it was brilliant

Yes it does get more disturbing

InFiveMins · 07/10/2021 22:53

How gory is it? I want to watch but am really squeamish!

cloudtree · 07/10/2021 22:53

I am shocked that anyone has let their child under 16 watch it. I mean come on Ffs, parent your children. It’s horrific graphic fucked up violence and sex

Mummyoflittledragon · 07/10/2021 23:05

@SpacePotato

It's like Takeshi's Castle meets the Hunger games but more violent.
I also thought it resembles Takeshi’s Castle a bit. Or a very violent version.

Dd 13 isn’t one bit interested. She declared it boring by the beginning of episode 2. I already watched it and was hooked.

Cross post. Well for me, I knew dd wouldn’t be into it. She hates pretty much all fiction. But all her friends have watched it and talk about it a lot. She spent 80% of the time looking at her phone and didn’t want to watch anymore. Had I said no, she would have just watched it on the sly. My reasoning with teens is why have the argument when it’s not necessary?

I would like to know too. How is it compared to Game of Thrones (which is pretty close to my limit)?

Ah, so your seemingly negligent parenting was actually wise parenting - well done you!

Babypug · 07/10/2021 23:19

Poor dubbing ... you have to watch it with subtitles (and I usually hate subtitles) we flicked to English speaking and it was just awful.

Ridiculousradish · 07/10/2021 23:24

My nearly 12 year old boy says most of his friends have seen it, and all talk about it at school. No fucking way would I let him watch it.

InTheMiddle23 · 07/10/2021 23:29

Battle Royale is worth a watch for anyone who liked this

Stompythedinosaur · 08/10/2021 02:08

I'm really shocked so many young kids seem to be watching this show - it's totally not appropriate for them.

MimiDaisy11 · 08/10/2021 02:17

Is it like Battle Royale but with games? That’s what I thought from watching the trailer.

Also people saying the dubbing is terrible, is dubbing ever good? Grin Maybe in cartoons.

SleepOhHowIMissYou · 08/10/2021 02:37

Binge watched with my older teens with subtltles and we all loved it here.

I'm not good with gore but coped okay with the level here. It's a 15. Walking Dead is more gory for comparison.

Sex scene was very tame. Reference to rape was nasty but was just that, a reference, not filmed, just mentioned by another character.

I guessed one plot twist and my daughter guessed the other but it didn't ruin the story for us.

However, the English speaking actors are terrible!

IndigoC · 08/10/2021 02:42

It peaked around ep 5-6. The ending was a little disappointing to me.
