Previously undecided voters would you vote for Starmer's Labour now?

Are there any previously Tory voters or undecided voters who would now consider voting Labour in a GE based on Kier Starmer's speech and him taking on the far left of the party?

I vote Labour anyway but I'm interested if any of his speech "cut through" as they say. To my eyes the main heckler just came across like a complete loony and made Kier Starmer's stance look even more sensible.

Your vote will be wasted essentially as only one or the other can win. That's on other parties. I won't be emotionally blackmailed

No. Thank. You

elodie77 · 06/10/2021 12:24

PronounssheRa You are only correct on the tampon tax!

every party has its idiots - such as the Prime Minister? Grin

In your opinion. I'm surprised you think Boris saying "Women go to university 'to find men to marry'" is more harmful than Lisa Nandy saying rapists should be housed in prison according to their gender identity. I mean she is advocating for rapists to be housed with women.

We clearly have very different opinions, but that's ok

There's also the fact that the current ministers can't organise a piss up in a brewery, so I've faith that putting through self I'd would be too much work for them.
Whereas the current labour leader would be well versed in tying up all the details are pushing it through. It's clearly a priority for him.

No thank you.

TheElementsSong · 06/10/2021 12:50

All this guilt-tripping just reads like Adult Human Females have a responsibility to be Everybody’s Mum. Funny how Labour do know how to identify sex classes after all Hmm

Exactly

One of the more undemocratic things I’ve heard on mumsnet

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 06/10/2021 13:16

Hopefully its understood that im referring to the ‘vote wasting’ charge

BelleOfTheProvince · 06/10/2021 13:57

It reads like gaslighting to me.
It's like if I had a ex that beat me and an current partner that verbally abused me.

You wouldn't tell me that current partner is good for me because at least he is not strangling me. You'd tell me to be with neither.

Saying that I will tactically vote conservative, as I have already told my labour party representative. It's not a safe seat so you'd think labour would want to court my vote but unsurprisingly no reply back.

Although I expect I am on a wrongthink list somewhere.

Is it my imagination but is this site becoming more right wing by the day ? Every thread about the tories is dominated by posters declaring they can't vote Labour. Very little genuine condemnation of the tories record which funnily enough has hugely affected poor w/c women overwhelmingly.

Nope, I'm a raging lefty, can't stand Johnson, Gove etc, and I love the writings of Harriet Taylor Mill.

I'm devastated that Labour has abandoned women as a political sex class.

Makes me left wing not right wing.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 06/10/2021 17:20

‘Is it my imagination but is this site becoming more right wing by the day ?’

In terms of voting intention probably, yes, because there is nowhere to the left of Labour to go so people are either moving right or not voting at all.
In terms of underlying political beliefs, not so much- I haven’t seen many posters professing love for the Tories.

Like many women on here I'm a lefty who can't vote Labour. So I'm not voting for anybody.
MotherofPearl · 06/10/2021 17:40

I totally hear what many of you are saying about Labour's stance on women, but I feel like I am willing to do anything to get rid of the sickening, dishonest, venal Tory government we have, so I am willing to be pragmatic and vote Labour, in spite of my disagreement with them over the woman question.

PronounssheRa · 06/10/2021 17:41

Including destroying women's rights? That's a step too far for me

elodie77 · 06/10/2021 17:46

That is just hyperbolic nonsense.

MotherofPearl · 06/10/2021 17:47

I know I know. I do feel very conflicted. But then I feel so full of despair every day when I see how the Tories are wrecking people's lives, and then I think anything is better than carrying on as we are.

PronounssheRa · 06/10/2021 17:50

In your opinion. You still haven't addressed Lisa Nandy advocating for male rapists being house in female prisons

TheElementsSong · 06/10/2021 17:55

It's still reading like Adult Human Females have to think of Everybody Else first, how dare they imagine they don't owe their vote to Other Actual People etc etc.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 06/10/2021 17:57

Yes it is your imagination

You can think that labour are currently a shower or shite but still not be tory or right wing

Works the other way around as well

PronounssheRa · 06/10/2021 18:12

Yup
elodie77 · 06/10/2021 18:17

You still haven't addressed Lisa Nandy advocating for male rapists being house in female prisons And I won't - take it up with Lisa Nandy.

You're reducing a complex issue to an extreme example and making it out as if women's rights across the board were under threat - they're not. Not from Labour anyway. You're also deluded if you think that BoJo and his mates care anything about the conditions in women's prisons or women's rights and quality of life.

Justice Secretary Dominic Raab whose remit includes the prison service is against making misogyny a hate crime and is on record calling feminists 'obnoxious bigots' and says that 'men get a raw deal'.

MotherofPearl · 06/10/2021 18:18

But I'm not just a woman.

I'm also a passionately pro-EU remainer.
And a believer in social welfare.

And I worry that waiting for a party that reflects 100% of my views will just enable the Tories to rule forever.

Thekolschisonme · 06/10/2021 18:19

I agree we need to be pragmatic.
It's a massive moral dilemma. But I think Labour are misguided, trying to do the right thing for a minority that is extremely small but which has a huge suicide rate and is subject to considerable discrimination.
I hope that they will change course when they recognise the huge backlash against them.
Otoh the tories are absolutely aware of what they are doing and don't give a shit. Hence the issue with UC.

Thekolschisonme · 06/10/2021 18:23

Equally the tories have already done things which directly affect ordinary women, labour still have the chance to backtrack and see sense. And remember that it's not just women who have been affected by tory policies but loads of other vulnerable sections of the population. We need to look at the bigger picture.

TheElementsSong · 06/10/2021 18:28

Tell you what, next GE, how about this Mum Of Everybody doesn't vote for any of the mendacious, misogynistic, incompetent shitbuckets on offer, but I identify as having voted Labour? I'm told that identifying as something is such a powerful incantation that it oblates material reality and becomes ineluctable Truth.
