I'm home alone today and except for whatsapping my friends have nothing to do with this incandescent rage and hopeless sadness.

Anyone else need to talk? Sad

@WrapAroundYourDreams

Fucking hell, are we still doing NAMALT? Really?
Yep. It’s just sick. So sick.
MrsRobbieHart · 29/09/2021 18:41

People really need to stop using the “evil” cop out.

worriedatthemoment · 29/09/2021 18:41

@Pumperthepumper then so should all women but they don't either
This is one evil person who will prob get out in so many years , tougher sentences are needed,

FourTeaFallOut · 29/09/2021 18:41

Yeah, NAMALT. But many men laugh at rape jokes, many men stay quiet when their mates are being creepy shits, many men minimise the harm that other men inflict on women, many men watch porn with an utter disregard for how it was made and what coercion was involved. So cry me a fucking river if they feel unfairly tarnished today.

the80sweregreat · 29/09/2021 18:42

I can't believe that Cressida Dick is still in charge after all this.
Words fail me to be honest.

IfImLyingImDying · 29/09/2021 18:42
@Pumperthepumper and not all men do that as well and lots of women also watch pornography make sexist rude jokes
Yes more men and things need to change but we can't blame every single one
I have sons , one was out in a club and a guy was hassling a girl, they approached the man and told him to leave her alone and she wasn't interested and made sure she wAs ok , took her back to her friends.
So some men do stand up
We’ll give him a bloody medal.

Would he do that if it was one of his friends?

nomoneytreehere · 29/09/2021 18:42

Poor woman. She must have been terrified in that car. I actually wish that the awful detail of the actual kidnapping and murder wasn't made public though it feels voyeuristic to be reading about it and no doubt he is enjoying the attention.

What could women do? What do you suggest?

And as an aside, how many women do you think visit strips clubs on the average weekend?

Not one.

2 women a week are murdered by a man that they know. The number goes up when you add the men that they don’t know.

15 police officers convicted of committing crimes against women since 2009.

Tangledtresses · 29/09/2021 18:45

I couldn't bare to read it... I just did FUCKING HELL WHAT AN ACTUAL FUCKING BASTARD!
How does this happen???? Why aren't they monitoring these psychopaths?

I went out with a copper years ago...after 3 months of head games I dumped him. I Believe he is still CID PROPER FUCKING WEIRDO

Jasmine11 · 29/09/2021 18:46

so do you take responsibility for Myra hindley as I asked earlier and do you think every male in the country should whip themselves nightly for daring to be male?

The fact you are going on about Myra Hindley @Jennifermadison who commuted her crimes 56 years ago just shows how much you are scraping the barrel with your train of thought. 15 women in the past 12 years have been murdered by police officers and that's just by police officers. In the past year alone 118 women have been murdered. So if the only example of a prolific woman killer is from over half a century ago, you are being completely ridiculous asking if women today should feel collectively responsible and being (purposefully?) obtuse.

Lollipop444 · 29/09/2021 18:46
@IfImLyingImDying but thats not all men is it ? All the ones i know find it disgusting and would not cover up for someone
The victim has male relatives as well who should not feel any blame
Many women stand behind violent abusive men as well
What should be done is tougher sentances including all those that are complicit
Yes most men would find it disgusting and wouldn’t cover up for someone. And yes, only one man is responsible for this particular crime.

But is it enough for most men to just be disgusted?

Do all the men you know treat their partners nicely? Speak to them respectfully? None abusive, emotionally, physically, psychologically? Can you be completely sure?

Of the many men I come across on a regular basis I would say exactly the same, that on the surface they are like this. But look at the domestic abuse statistics and there’s a good chance someone you know is not as they seem on the surface.

And look at the amount of men who behave differently when they’re out with the lads, or speak disrespectfully to their partners, expect their partner to do everything for them etc.

This all has an effect on the way women are viewed and treated in society and true equality is a long way off.

Thanks for filling this thread up with your anger and sadness today ladies. I really needed to share and hear from you all today. Unmumsnetty hugs all round.

@worriedatthemoment

I really hope you have just name changed and there are not 2 plus women still doing its all not all men bullshit on this thread.

Viviennemary · 29/09/2021 18:57

There was also Rose West. But both her and Hindley acted with a male. There is no getting away from the fact that more murders are committed by men than women. Whether the victim is a stranger or somebody known to the killer. I can't believe Cressida Dick is still in charge.

Suzi888 · 29/09/2021 18:57

She must have been absolutely terrified.

I wonder what else he may have gotten away with over the years or had a blind eye turned to. I agree with others, the warning signs, red flags were there. His behaviour escalated and it usually always does.

Passmeamenuatthetottenham · 29/09/2021 18:59

@LexMitior

The outrage should also be targetted at the Met. Look at this guy, a problem with steroids, a problem with extreme pornography, known as "the rapist" by his colleagues. He has pleaded guilty so none of this will come out.

The first two are actual criminal conduct, and then he exposes himself and that is not investigated. Yes the Met are culpable in this crime, because they gave and continued to give him the authority and the means to commit his crimes.

40 years ago, using steroids and watching hard core porn would have barred you from being in the police. Now, its okay, and you can expose yourself to women and still have a weapon. Yes the Met are misogynistic and culpable.

Yep, and now The Met are all 'boo hoo, this is really upsetting for us, we don't view him as a police officer, he's not one of us'.

Well tough shit lads, he was a police officer, he was one of you. In fact he was nicknamed 'The Rapist' by you.

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 29/09/2021 19:00

I've been angry and upset about this too, absolute scum.

Death is too good for him. If I had my way, he'd be locked into the smallest room they can get away with, pitch black. No light, no windows. Not even a bed. He can have a bucket to do his business in, sleep on the floor and be left with nothing but his thoughts and slowly go insane.

But of course he'll get protected from the other prisoners, a bed, tv, recreation time etc. So if the other prisoners do manage to get their hands on him somehow and he felt a fraction of the fear Sarah did, I won't have any sympathy.

Brindisi32 · 29/09/2021 19:00

I saw the news earlier. There were big, fat warning signs with Couzens as far back as 2015. It’s the thought that he could’ve been prevented from doing this. Seeing that footage of him, a serving officer, arresting Sarah is horrific.

TheVanguardSix · 29/09/2021 19:00

I can't believe that Cressida Dick is still in charge after all this.

She's garbage. I can't believe it either.

LexMitior · 29/09/2021 19:01

He's pleaded guilty so you never will know what else he did and was tolerated by his employers, the police.

Using steroids and hardcore porn - literally a sign of a man who is unstable. Unfortunately it describes a lot of men and people do not like to think about it.

You want to go set up a thread for handmaidens? Be my guest, I'm sure you'll get no shortage of contributors.

This thread is about Sarah Everard. A tragic victim (yet another one) of the worst kind of senseless male violence, who was raped and murdered because of her sex.

In this very small part of a very large site, I, for one, do not want to read about fucking men.

Claudethecat · 29/09/2021 19:03

You can NAMALT at me all you like. Until men get their acts together and stop oppressing us in a myriad of ways, from micro to macro, nothing will change for us.

I don't care about the men, I want justice for Sarah, Sabina and all the women who die at the hands of men.
